See and another thing is some people don’t know what 4 inches of hair look like either sometimes even an inch so we have to explain that to people as well
lol I’m not trim triggered at all. But this was a scissor happy cut. It was a hair cut not a trip. Which is okay… but it’s a hair cut not a trim. Nothing wrong with it though
Because like Shell said, some folks have PTSD from stylists that took 4+ inches when only 1-2 inches were to be trimmed. I've seen a lady silently crying after this happened. Her sister came to pick her up, saw her sister's tears & long hair gone & set it off in that salon after the stylist tried to convince them that she did the client a favor. It was a fly cut, but not what the client wanted.
@lionsdencoaching6457 out of jealousy?? Damn never heard or thought of that I hope not smh just thought the majority of stylists get scissor happy or even go further than they intended
@Ashley-og9ti That's what I always thought, too. And, I also think sometimes they may see that more needs to be cut; but they should just do what the client asks for and they'll see for themselves if more is needed.
Beautifully done ❤ Trimming hair is necessary. I used to never ever trim my hair because I was traumatized as a child . I could never grow it past my chin. In 2020 I stopped relaxing, braids and weaves. I trimmed my hair and it started growing! Trims are your best friend. Get all that thin hair off and the hair looks so much prettier and thicker too.
You can also pull the hair straight out like you're cutting layers to get hairs that don't come all the way down. This way you can still get all of the split ends without unnecessarily cutting healthy hair.
Question… why do stylist trim this way? It seems lazy bc hairs at the top of the head aren’t being trimmed / cut. PS I’m not referring to how much was taken off. That’s understandable when the client isn’t keeping up w/ regular trims but I trim mine every 3 mos & my ex-styles does this same bob nonsense. This is cutting hair into a style when the client requested a trim for the health of the hair. I’m not a bob wearer. It also eventually made the back of my hair significantly shorter than the top bc her only skill was to make it “look” even all around from the bottom. Not cool but hoping you can help answer this question.
I'm a 4c girlie and I know my silk presses don't last long (I also sweat from my roots) but I loveeeee Silk presses so much. And 4c hair reverts back with no damage majority of the time❤😊
ALL 4C HAIR have see thru ends!!!.......it does not matter if your hair is thick/fine......low/high porosity......healthy/unhealthy........trim/no trim......straightened/unstraighten.......this is a genetic trait of 4c hair, you CAN NOT run from the 4C ends......lol........it literally resembles cotton lol........
That is one thing I never could understand …why does what I do to my hair bother you? Why do people go bat crap crazy over seeing somebody else cut THEIR hair 🤷🏽♀️
That's what I was thinking... There's a difference between cut and trim.... As I am a stylist I have to make sure I give them what's needed... If I see they need a trim that's what it's going to be....
I can tell she had bad split ends the way her ends were knotted and had hairballs on the ends when blow drying. My hair was the same way. I have thick, coarse and wooly hair and I trim my hair often . Hee hair is beautiful 😍❤️.
This was NOT a trim! You cut almost three inches off her hair. No matter the reason. You say you got her permission to CUT this much of her hair off. I hope you did. This is why people don't trust beauticians. We know what a trim is. When you say trim then cut that's fosters distrust. PERIOD!
A good stylist/hair dresser will tell you. People also just have a problem letting go of dead ends and prioritize length over health and need more. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience but not everyone is like that
@rsmobyrd so true. My sister did hair for 25 years. She'd tell them what they need, they don't listen. They want those scraggly, dead, see thru ends. But then they always came running back to her to cut those dead ends off later. SMH.
@@shelltalkshairI didn't say rough :D And actually 80% of us 4c types have literally NO idea what good hair care is because it's so specific. That's why a majority of 4c women's hair is short - not because of genetics, but because of damage and breakage from improper care, maintenance, and styling. Section hair into 10-12 sections and work on each piece 1 at a time. Use lots of detangler with TONS of slip. Let the detangler soak for 20-30 minutes. I like a detangler with a little fat, tons of slip, and a bit of oil, but I'm sure yours will vary because you're pressing after. Start detangling with your fingers - I start by separating the sections into smaller individual sections first big, then literally, single strand by single strand (YUP). Then I go in with my fingers and pretend like it's a comb. I actually finger detangle every step of the way because it's effective and the least damaging - the wash phase, conditioning, phrase and detangling phase. Then untangle using a detangling brush (my favorite) or a wide tooth comb (I've seen you use it on looser type 4). Nothing else unless it's your fingers. Denman is the OG detangler brand and Unbrush is the new kid on the block. Wash out the detangler, and gently twist the section to keep it from tangling again. Lastly, you saying shorter hair will help her maintain her healthy hair better is like saying if you run a mile instead of a marathon, it will be easier. Teach that baby how to maintain, nourish, and grow out her beautiful hair. Also, why would you press it if you said it were dry? Dry hair is easily damaged, so her hair was was in a weak state and could've used a week or so of repair. I prepare my hair for heat like a week in advance but that's my scary self, not facts. Congrats of the successful channel and we ALL should keep learning.
I loved it. her hair was stiff before the trim and the ends had no life. You cut a a lot but it was needed ,the aftermath gave life and bounce. And if she maintains it itll grow back in no time but healthier than before.
I think you pressed & trimmed her hair beautiful. I got my hair pressed and curled every 2 weeks for years. It was done with the Marcells. My stylist would make that curling iron talk. 😂😅 I never got heat damage.
I used to flat iron and curl my hair daily and had hairdressers use heat on a regular and never had heat damage. I don’t even remember using a heat protector either. These new hot tools must’ve been made in hell. 🤣🤣😩
Great video! I have 4 C hair and do my own hair...I use Aveda shampoo and conditioners which makes my hair soft...I add braids in and I also give my hair a break by wearing a twist out style or flat iron it...I love my natural hair!!
Beautiful work Shell. I love getting silk presses once in a while. Do you have a recommendation on frequency of silk presses? My last silk press went not so great, my stylist thought it was the leave-in conditioner I asked her to use...
Hey, new subbie here 🤗… I loved what you said it’s so hard to find a good hairstylist who genuinely wants the best for their clients hair. Where am from the hairstylist here are all about money💰, and it hurts me to see that because am having these exact problems that you mention with my hair 😢😢
It’s alright her hair isn’t airy nor flowy … it looks a bit stiff and dry . I would have given her a hydration treatment before putting heat to her hair . Then on top of that u went down the shaft of her hair more than one time with the flat iron (u must be using ceramic plates) Idk if u cut it out but i didn’t see u grab in between her hair to cut. I give this a 5 out of 10
I don’t know if your still doing this but this something that can help you as a stylist when your trimming part the hair so you won’t forget about the top hair pieces because we tend to cut less hair off the ends at the top that’s a way you can manage going up in a row
There was a thread on Twitter recently where some of the child models on perm boxes said they never got their hair relaxed. Most of them had silk presses done.
The knowledge you give out is outstanding. New things are great and some were things I had the learn in my 30s 👎🏿 def needed this in high school. 😃👍🏾 Great 💜
Next time cut some of it off before shampooing and blowdrying and it will save you time and will also give you a smoother silk press. Also don’t skimp on the styling. Invest the same amount of energy into that as the pressing and cutting. 👌🏽
You know your craft. Your explanation is really informative. Thanks! I have 4c hair. The cut is getting rid of dead ends. My hair growth is quick, so a cut grows back fast for me. Her haircut is very pretty.
That's not true. I've had natural hair all my life and always air dry. I haven't used heat since 2004. I wash n go everyday. My hair is absolutely gorgeous and healthy. I wear my hair short now, but even when it was down my back I air dried.
@@lolOloveOlol21 I'm happy that sistas have taken an interest in natural hair, but there is so much misinformation out there. Ppl do way too much and make it so much harder than it really is. It doesn't take all that work or product. Air drying is always better.
@@JG_SmileSOBrightYou are gonna argue with the science? Like it does straight up weakens the hair. Wet hair is hair at its weakest. To keep you hair it weakest state is not good! Especially for those with curly hair. Air drying a wash and go everyday isn’t even practical.
Yeah, I needed that disclosure because my heart dropped lol. Thank you for the tips. My hair is very similar to hers. Last time I had my mom do my trim, I swore that she hated me. Like she was really out to get me with how much she cut off 😅
How do you get the hair to stay straight? Every time I try to flat iron my hair it puffs up 2 seconds after the flat iron touches it. It literally is a puff ball before I get half way through my head.
I haven't straightened my hair in YEARS but I've been natural my whole life. I always did a rollerset, followed by Marcel iron straightening. That combo kept my hair straighter much longer than electric flatirons. My press would last until whenever I decided to wash my hair.
Is there a solution to braiding hair drying out/ causing split ends? That's what happened to me. My hair was in great condition till I tried box braids for the first time.
I looooove a hair cut! I’m naturally scissors happy with my own hair and literally just cut a good 3 inches off because it was DED 😂 When the dead ends are cut the hair becomes flown and weightless…🗣️STOP HOLDING ON TO THE THOSE DEAD ENDS JUST BECAUSE ITS LONG
I understand the maintenance part about deep conditioning and steaming but not during the duration of the silk press so what do you do while its in to maintain and keep it healthy?
Question, if I did silk press once a month but did the whole steaming, deep conditioning hair treatment etc by a professional would I still have heat damage l? Would my hair be healthy and grow?
I am highly allergic to formaldehyde, so most commercial products I can not use. Consequently, I’m a natural gal for the first time in my life. I make my own shampoo (black soap diluted or soap nuts diluted) and conditioner (goats milk, aloe gel or Irish Sea Moss and aloe). My hair 4C, low porosity goes back to natural within hours and never really straightens. HELP
Does anyone know where she is located? I live in Grand Rapids, MI, but I will travel ( Michigan only) . Does anyone know if she is accepting new clients, or does she only provide healthy hair content on social media? She would be the perfect stylist for my granddaughters who have 4C hair. I want to start them on a healthy hair journey and encourage them to embrace their natural hair. Any requested information is appreciated. Thanks
First mistake was cutting over her fingers for the initial cut . But she may have been doing this for awhile and has her own technique now . Final look is amazing 🩵
