These videos are great because they help get girls over the fear of trimming. There are other variables such as heat, overuse of product, lack of moisture, stressful styles, nightly maintenance, and more that play a big role too. I’m not a hair stylist, but I do have long healthy hair. I don’t have a trim schedule, I just trim when I see damage. Years ago my hair couldn’t get past my shoulders, when I cut it to my neck and left it alone, barely touching, it finally grew to past the middle of my back. Ironically, sometimes when I cut 1-2 inches of damage off it looks longer because the fullness. By the next month the length is back but it’s fuller, bouncier, and healthier.

Applause to you for making your client understand the NEED for cutting and trims! TOO MANY Black Women & Girls don't ever get their hair cut. The logical decision to cut is outweighed by the illogical thought that never allowing a pair of scissors to the hair equates length.
@punkrockstar
@punkrockstar 2 года назад
Some cultures like in India they never cut their hair and it doesn’t get like that. There are other variables other than hair cutting such as heat, overuse of product, lack of moisture, improper styles, maintenance etc. I’m not a hair stylist, but I have long healthy hair. I don’t have a trim schedule, I simply cut when I see damage. It may be twice a month it may be ever few months. These videos on identifying damage are helpful, but knowing your own hair or having a stylist who does is better. Cutting damage does speed up growth exponentially by preventing breakage. My hair grows 1.5 inches a month when I trim it.

Great cut! It really makes sense to cut those dead ends. Holding on to dead ends just to retain length is 🗣REDUNDANT
@Righteousqueen12
@Righteousqueen12 3 года назад
We often neglect our ends…. Water, moisturizer(that has a humectant and emulsifier), oil (sealant). In that order. Even when you wear a straight style you can still do this to your ends and not weigh your hair down. I look for little hairs to see if there’s breakage and it only happens if I skip these steps.

@@Righteousqueen12 Well you said you can even do it to your ends when wearing a straight style and not weigh your hair down which could be easily read as something done after straightening. Even that aside, I still stand by what I said about giving bad advice because you're not supposed to put pure oil on your hair before straightening. It fries the hair. Cutting off the ends of your hair does not stimulate growth in your hair follicles. How can the ends of you hair dictate the density or thickness of hair. Geeeez
@candi1904
@candi1904 3 года назад
Secondly cutting your hair gets is short not long. You can cut all the hair you want, instead teach other about and all round hair care routine. Ps I am natural and mid back length, so I know cutting ends is not an end all be all to Long Thick Natural hair.
@aquimarr
@aquimarr 3 года назад
Hey good morning Sis,..no cutting your hair does not stimulate growth in your hair follicles it does however stop the ends of broken and damaged hair from splitting and knotting. This was not a hair cut for style. I could be wrong it appears the goal was to get rid of the jagged ends in attempt to retain length. The hair is fuller where the ends of the hair haven't broken.

@@aquimarr Thanks for reaching out. I did not mean to fuss, but because so many naturals struggle when trying to achieve length, they just think cutting your hair will give you results. I understand you now, and I was one who had full hair at 10" but as soon as it grew I cut it. Until I went on a 6 month challenge without cutting, and I was forced to learn how to maintain healthy hair. I now cut my hair 2 - 4 months maintaining mid back length.

My question to you is...why is it that we didn't get trims when we were children, and our hair grew long and thick? But when we become an adult, we need trims every six weeks to get our hair to grow?
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
I use to get trims as a kid, not often but I did, and I’ve had kid clients that suffered from severe splitting and breakage lol ☺️ But I do understand ❤️what you’re saying. So over time the hair thins out, and the client in the video had went years without trimming. As a kid you’re flourishing, your health/ nutrition is way better, you’re more active, and the strands were way more stronger. As an adult our hair becomes weaker, our health/nutrition isn’t the same as we were when we were kids, our skin is aging, etc. Also alot of us wasn’t as educated back then on why and what it looks like to have to severely split ends, because back then, Hairstylist mostly told you what you needed and we didn’t ask why or question it which in turn made us not like trimming. At the end of the day trimming is choice and with any choice, we choose the effect or affect of our choosing. I hope this helps ☺️.

Raise your chair up or have the client stand to do the cut. It wasn’t even due to improper positioning. I would also suggest a longer length shear. Normally short shears are for detailing.
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
The reason for me squatting down is due to content purposes. When filming the hair, it’s different. If I were to have the client to stand I still wouldn’t have to footage needed. What you see in my video isn’t the whole process as stated in the video to the hair cutting police. As you know, you would have to be behind the cut each time, but when filming, of course you can’t do that completely due to getting the right angles and amount of space that you have to work with. Do you do recordings of cuts, if so, I would love to check you out😊.

Start today: First step is getting a trim/getting those bad ends off, and then establishing a hair care regimen..Decide and Invest in A Good Shampoo & Conditioner. Listen to Your Hair and it’ll let you know how often it’ll need to be cleansed. Also an easy way to make sure that you’re up on your health is to schedule your trims through out the year, do natural treatments once a month(protein treatment/ optional mask treatment/ and deep conditioner). It doesn’t take much to have Healthy Hair. We just have to commit and be consistent with it. Also most importantly make sure that your Nutrition is Balanced, Take your Daily Vitamins Drink Your Water, and Make sure that Your hair is in tact.

@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
Was it breakage or shedding. A lot of clients sometimes mistake the shedding for breakage. If it’s shedding, by the hair being in straight state, the shedding will be more noticeable compared to in natural state. The curls usually most of the time, catch hold to the shed. If it’s breakage then hopefully it’s not heat damaged or your hair could either be dry or weak. I recommend around your next shampoo day to do a protein treatment. I like aphogee. Only protein once a month. Also follow up with a deep condition/steam treatment for hydration

Hey little sistah...Thank you for this video!!! As an older stylist I suggest you get a stool for hair cutting, your back will appreciate it as you age 😊😊😊
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
Hey 😊 I appreciate it, I have stool but the reason for me squatting down is due to content purposes. When filming the hair, it’s different. If I were to sit on a stool to cut (while filming) it would compromise my shot. As you know, you have to behind the cut each time, but when filming, of course you can’t do that completely due to getting the right angles. Do you do recordings of cuts, if so, I would love to check you out😊.

Any tips for those of us who travel a lot internationally? I am constantly in another country and unfortunately can’t make it to consistent hair appointments.🥴 also after this past year with little to no hair shops open I feel like I need to gain some kind of skill in at home trims or I’m doomed either way.😂
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
How often do you do go home, because if you go at least once a year, you can work with that as well. Some women do trims once a year but they also understand how much will cut off, and through that, their hair is still flourishing. That’s where the regimen comes into play. Just make sure that you have your go to products for keeping your strands healthy(maintenance monthly or biweekly), also invest in a hand held steamer as well. It will change your life. Also if you do fill that you would rather trim every 3months. Hash tag on Instagram hairstylist that specialize in the natural hair. Make sure you see pictures of their work. If you don’t feel comfortable with the stylist while in the chair, do not be afraid to refuse services.
@Theeeory
@Theeeory 3 года назад
@@KrissypooHairView thank you so much. This is very helpful, I think I will end up being in the once a year category but I do recognize that when I do go my trims will be much more intense. Will check out that hashtag ASAP!

Lord! I wonder why women let it get this bad and thin on the ends? You can literally feel the thin strands when you run your hands through it...straight or curly.. As a professional...I'll never understand.. Why try to keep this ate up hair ...calling it length...and it looks horrible.. You did an Amazing job..I hope she keeps it up and not let it get that bad ever again.

It's not manipulating your hair a lot that causes it to grow. At the beginning of covid my hair was short and damage due to perming. I put oils, leave-in conditioner and water in my scalp, braided in two cornrow every week and washed it once a month. My hair is currently below my shoulder blade with a silk press. I will never perm again. I wear my silk press for a few weeks then I repeat the process of putting the oils conditioner and water before I wash my hair again. ( oils from Walmart, tea tree oil, castor oil, olive oil whatever oils they have in those little 99 cent tube and mix it with conditioner) no expensive shampoos or craziness the key to growing your hair is being patient and being consistent
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 2 года назад
It all depends on your scalp and how much oil you produce on top of what what products you put in.

What type of hair cut do you recommend for someone who has breakage in the crown and directly under it? The perimeter of my hair is fine but the center has breakage. I got a bob before but that grew out . Every time I get a hair cut layers or they keep cutting the bottom, which is growing fine. So with time it’s looking thin and like a mullet. But the center has that splitting youre talking about here
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
What I usually do is trim/cut the split ends is go on the inside trim and make sure I’m blending the crown. If it looks like a mullet at the end, that means that the hairstylist is not blending and it’s becoming choppy. I recommend researching stylist that specialize in cutting hair because they will know exactly what to do when they see your hair. Also let them know that you’re okay with loosing a little length on the ends in order for your hair not have a disconnect from the center to the ends.

It originally looked dry. What can you do to prevent dry brittle hair?
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
Literally what I did on the video😊 deep condition and steam your hair do it at the least once a month. When your hair looks like the before, that means that your hair has to become a priority and continuously do maintenance. It’s no special trick, it’s just like a plant. Plants have to watered in order to flourish, when the leaves on the plant become brittle, you trim as needed.

Everyone does want the blunt ends and most hair doesnt grow at the same rate. there’s no cost, its personal choice. Black folks are the only ones so pressed about uneven ends. White chicks walk about all day long swinging them thin ends but we have brainwashed to think things dont look good unless everything is even. Once again being hoodwinked because we have taught by our open enemies on how to do hair and what is deemed appropriate. They let their ends catch up and we stay cutting even if there are no split ends. Instead of getting mad, think about it
@KrissypooHairView
@KrissypooHairView 3 года назад
Please check your Ignorance. As being a licensed Cosmetologists, Black clients are not the only clients I’ve ever worked on. The “Majority” of the time, straight textured clients( meaning, that I’m not saying white because they are not the only ones with straight hair, lol, refer back to the first Sentence I wrote again lol). Over the years, most of the clients that have come to my chair as well as others that would come to the salon mainly get cuts, trims, and color, sometimes perms. Now if it’s a special occasion they would step outside of the box and get a style. The “Health” of the hair is Universal, “All” hair types require, health Maintanence. Just like hair getting dry, needing deep conditioner, “and YES, THEY GET HEAT DAMAGE AS WELL”(bet you didn’t know that) steam/hydration mask treatments trims etc. “All” hair needs it. Even pet hair, if you wanna go there with it. So if you walk outside and see “straight textured” hair and it looks thin, I “dare” you to ask that person why do their hair look thin on the ends. But I bet you you ain’t that bold as you are here on RU-vid. You never know what that person with thin brittle hair could be dealing with. They could possibly have health issues that could go so far as an illness. So read that first sentence again….And do proper research instead of your own assumptions smh. “Thankyou for watching my video 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾😄.

In fact I think it's quite the opposite. Black women have been told so many times that we are bald headed because our natural hair shrinkage doesn't always show our true length. As a result of combating these stereotypes that we don't have hair we hold on to dead ends for dear life. Many of us would rather have long dead hair than slighty shorter dead hair.
