I think what is underrated here is that Silvio basically took over as acting boss with no power struggle at all from anyone. When Jackie was sick Tony and Junior both fight for the top spot and we find out Silvio's name was also thrown around as a potential leader as well. Now no one argues with Silvio stepping in for Tony until he recovers. They respect him that much
Also, nobody else in that glorified crew was remotely competent enough to step in as Acting Boss. All of them were essentially either high school girls (in late middle-age male bodies), or coke fiends.
Silvio was the long-time undisputed number two of the family at this point in the series... you have paulie, carlo, vito, larry and bobby as the next ones down 😂 nobody is stepping over him to take the acting boss position.
Whenever someone crosses and belittles him disfavorably, he'd always display those disgruntled facial expressions so repulsively, that he'd get even should you cross him.
If I remember right, Christopher buys Tony a stereo for his room after this, so it’s made even better by the hypocrisy. If I’m not making that up, it’s been a while.
This scene is another brilliant example of the stellar writing on the show, by not giving the baby any lines, it heavily conveys the want, but inability to talk that all babies have, it really makes it feel like you're watching a real baby and not just an actor playing a baby.
He was right because doing nothing to Junior and letting him rot was the best choice. They all know he was senile and didn't mean to hurt Tony (this time) but it was best to just let him go to his nut house nursing home place and fade away. He did too.
Vito was scoring some serious points in terms of respect from many in the family. Things were looking up for Vito with Tony in his death bed and Vito being the highest earning guy in the crew, that brings a lot of power and respect. Well, that was until they caught him in a dance club with dudes in nipple rings... And straps too!
Writing on another level. Chris implying he thinks everyone wants to commit suicide. Janice suggesting Eugene was despondent because his kid was on drugs (like her own son, Harpo), indicating she's considered it. Vito projecting his own closeted homosexuality as a possible reason (not included that in the vid). Really amazing the level of detail in seemingly just casual banter.
0:53 gotta give some credit where its due. In his race to be the new option for boss, vito wasted no time eliminating the competition. took out bobby as an option pretty fast. Essentially blamed him for Tony's possible death. Vito, hes a real come from behind kind of guy
Can you imagine Bobby as the boss though? Surely no one was even thinking that could be a possibility. That said, could you imagine Vito as a boss either? Too funny.
Sil didn't do a bad job. Everybody just tried to take advantage. Sil was the only one really hoping Tony pulled through. Everyone else wanted Tony dead.
@@stevethomas2285 Marvin Gaye was a very popular RnB singer in the 60's and 70's. ( Google song title -Sexual Healing)His father shot and killed him, I believe in mid to late 80's
@@AU-ic7ur From I remember the scene of Chrissy giving the stereo to Tony was after he told Paulie " He doesn't need that" you're inferring that he already bought it to try to make a point.
Vito was calculating, he knew he would come to blows with Bobby over the sports book so calling him out and implying it was his fault that Tony got shot was very smart
@stryfetc1 As far as I understand Italian mob seldom killed uninvolved (i.e. not in the mafia themselves) family members. Though they wouldn't let them keep much money.
Crazy how Janice understood a piece of the puzzle. With her character it makes you think people were gossiping about Gene's personal life rather than Janice being empathetic.
According to David Chase, Barese was the least seen capo, but the directors suggests that his crew made the most money for the family, and if I'm not mistaken the actor who plays Larry has connection to a crime family, hence his natural attitude as a mobster
@@westsidewoodledge8892 Chris was saying that as a " i already got him that". Not to snake Paulie. That's why Paulie was shooting lasers out of his eyes at Chris, because he got it before him.
@Gareth Davies are you stupid? A boss lets his workers quit or retire. Only a fucking slave master would deny them of that. Tony was a piece of shit, as were most of the characters on this show. THAT’S the point of the series.
Silvio as boss for that short period of time was legendary, for a guy that was always #2 and didn’t really wanna a boss position he acted and did awesome.
I know Silvio's comfort zone is control of privileged information, earning and shooting but he'd make a great boss. He might not be feared nearly as much as Tony, but he knows how to steer the ship a lot more smoothly.
I really like how Larry boy carries himself. He is usually friendly and not the typical ball-breakers, that's why him being brutal about Junior comes out as so effective. Nobody had nothing to say about that.
Christopher: " Vito where were you that night in the Bronx when you were playing Village People while you should have been out greasing the union? Oh wait..you were greasing a different union."
_Vito made some solid points & remarks this scene_ I give him credit even if later we find out he’s a finook. I like the fact he called out Bobby since Bobby should’ve been with Uncle June that night.
This is absolutely fantastic Steve Van Zandt is a hero This face is incredibly funny During concerts he smiles nearly all the time But during certain songs ( Ramrod or Glory Days for example ) he makes this 'serious' face I am sure he does it for the fans of Sopranos and Lillyhammer, because he is not only a great musician and singer, he is also a gentleman I really hope to see him back on stage soon
Or "he was stuck in this life, and he found the only way out". Subconsciously they would have probably thought of this and made excuses not to think on it
I like to imagine an alternate universe where Silvio runs everything. Everything would be fair yet cold, brutal yet calculated. Nothing like Tony's emotional triggers.
Who was the under boss before season 6? I've always wondered that. There are a bunch of captains, a consigliere, and a few soldiers, but I can only remember there being a true underboss in season 6. Before that I guess Tony was the "underboss" to Junior, even though he was the true boss.
Paulie was place in a nominal position again he should have remained capo and moltisanti should have started his own crew.... thenntony coukd have picked a winner for underboss
Still can’t get over Paulie wanting to buy a stereo for the room, Chris saying “he don’t need that” and going behind Paulies back and him buying one haha. Chrissy
Paulie was made official underboss after Tony gets out of the hosp, I believe. Sil stayed on as Consigliere, Chrissy was made Captain and Bobby became Street boss.....before Everyone got whacked anyway.
Something that went unnoticed and shows the treachery in that life Vito didn’t really want to kill Junior or cared that Tony was hurt he actually wanted Roseville territory and he brought up Bobby too discredit him cause he knew he was next in line excellent writing
my favorite scene of the whole series “He don’t need that “ Paulies face 😂😂😂😂 ended up actually kinda needing it and chris bies him it man this series is funny asf
Now that's interesting, usually Paulie should take the charge since he was the underboss, consigliere is equal to underboss but still underboss should've been more active
Damn, how much did Carmella spend every week that required a special "portion"? I thought Tony had his earnings laundered through his Waste Management firm.
He Marvin Gayed his own nephew. Amazing dialogue. I'm guessing that went right past most people here. Marvin Gaye was a singer that got shot by his own father. All over Marvin wanting to protect his mum from that drunk bas**** who was beating her at the time. Such a terrible thing. Marvin was just becoming known again upon his death with the song Sexual Healing which hit #1. I suspect a lot of jealousy from Marvin's father because Marvin never followed in his father's footsteps and also stopped supporting him financially. Rip Marvin Gaye
The guy hanged himself and they pretend they don't know why he did it. His timing was really bad as he would have left while Tony in a coma and he would have eased up after and given him a pass even though Silvio told him no in the first place. The guys fighting who to look better in Tonys and Carmella's eyes but behind closed doors all rats and planning their dirty evil stuff.
razbigranicu I'm pretty sure a lot of guys want to eventually retire. Just because he wanted to move to Florida doesn't mean Tony should have known he's a rat. Eugene eve killed someone right before he hung himself, he certainly wasn't showing that he was a rat.
I'm not saying that should mean he's a rat, I mean they should assume he killed himself because Tony didn't let him to retire and move to Florida.

razbigranicu its deeper than that, since tony wouldnt let him go he snitched hoping he could be in a witness protection program in FLORIDA..but the FBI told him no..both TONY and the FBI said no to florida
