Keys to note in this video is the speaker's emphasis on subtle acts of enhancing one's individuality instead of fitting a conforming mold, how to and what good attributes comes with punctuating your outlook, and how the before mentioned can not only affect you, but those around you as well.

@kennitala nothing is wrong with having fun but the question of what matters in the work place is not self expression, you can dress up and be the most hip and stlyist employee but if your numbers slack you get cut and even trendy looking clothes can help you there

@donkisiko Sorry, I should have been more specific. Recently, Kaku stated that about 5% of all UFO encounters--the ones that have not been explained--are compelling candidates for alien visitation, as the witnesses and investigators were pilots and government officials, respectively.

why so many dislikes? he's right. Scientists who wish to enlighten as many people as possible have to be charismatic to obtain their full attention. Having your own personal style is the best way to do that, it shows that you're comfortable with your ideas and aren't afraid of criticism. Look at Michio Kaku for example, everyone knows him for his uncommon long silver hair.

as much as I appreciate him making an appearance and giving his opinions. There is a reason why many companies force people to wear uniforms of neutral colors.

@111111Sibble Me too! I was hoping he had some genuine tips, maybe something like: "Wear gloves that come up to your elbow, for extra protection and dramatic effect." - This was more akin to: "How to cram regular fashion, into a place it's not needed."

@EpicSojourn its not that we think this channel is only for Michio Kaku, the fact remains that this is a channel that actually sparks ideas and new innovations to be brought out. Its not that we dislike this fellow it is just that Bigthink bring in people that have well-thought out arguments and ideas and this man unfortunately does not live up to the expectations we have from Bigthink. We aren't elitists nor are we narrow minded, we just expect rational and well thought out ideas.

Heh, it's funny how the viewers hate this, yet the channel is all about being open minded and learning. Sure, this video isn't something that I would watch normally, but that's the point. I've now watched something that I would not normally watch, and I will now be a better mad scientist because of it.

@195ashes I agree with you, I don't work in a lab myself but my friend does, and there is nothing stopping a shirt being ironed or snazzy and a lick of make up. I'm all for practicality, but presentation is nice too. It isn't a need per se, but looking good naturally makes a person feel happier. It might not up your effiency, but it can't harm it. Thank you for debating with me so politely on youtube, it's such a nice change. :D

@195ashes how is it impractical to wear a colorful shirt? I think maybe you're just referring to the "eyewear" thing. Which obviously you wouldn't wear something that impedes your vision or your work, but when you're at a desk for 10 hours, how are some stylish glasses really going to hurt?

@EarlySeed The thing about evolutionary psychology is that through evolution we acquired all the learning programs and adaptative mechanisms that are required for culture to happen. Imagine a computer (mankind), and you are writing a story (culture) but to be able to write a story you need word processing software. Culture and society cant happen without the foundations of brain processing that evolution created And we do not justify, we explain. We dont say its right, we say why did it happen

@EvilMan04 It's not "just" about what you look like to others, it's also about having fun with your image. If you dress a certain way you will feel a certain way. Dismissing it as a shallow form of expression is completely missing the point. Just like how people judge people for what comes out of their mouths, so they judge the package the words come out of. Clothes are a form of expression.

Why are people taking this so seriously? It's a bit of fun! And eyewear is incredibly important in the lab, especially when you're working with such things as 5m hydrochloric acid like I did on Tuesday! I feel odd being in a lab without eyewear, even if I don't have the false eyelashes behind them. Seems to me like some people watching this need time off work to see the world in a happier, more fun light!

Kaku's eminence took a bit of a dive for me when he suggested that some percentage UFOs (I forget what) are likely to be the craft of extraterrestrial intelligences. Also, as I mentioned in a previous comment, his explanation of biological evolution was not only misleading, but wrong.

The irony is that if you go to work in one of the larger companies, you will end up having to worry about a lot of things that have nothing to do with your work.I think that applies even if you are not a scientist. wanting to look good is NOT stupid or superficial. I'm saddened to see that so many 'big thinkers' brush fashion off as merely vanity. I'm sure most of you leave the house with clothes on- why? you were born naked. clothes stop you from feeling vulnerable and can go beyond- making you feel empowered. if looking good doesn't matter, stop putting gel in your hair, stop buying different clothes, stay in your uniform all day- because apparently, it "doesn't matter"

@hylareca My mistake: I thought fashion was an utterly superficial plea to be counted as one among a posturing, arrogant herd. I thought it was merely a way to demonstrate that for only a few thousand dollars on one’s charge card, a person can make believe that they’re significant. I thought it was for those in the 1st World who suffer from spinelessness and low self-esteem. I didn’t realize it was how you present yourself.
