What losing your wife does to a mf. Like the single life in Ooo is so damn bad for my mans that he's gonna go back to being an insane, forgetful ice wizard just to spice things up I mean DAMN! Jokes aside though I honestly don't even know what's gonna happen with Simon. His story is already sad af so I assumed they'd go the happy route but idk 💀 Sub 2 the second channel btw: ru-vid.com/show-UCEG_QK5tOBsqyhBdIgv63Ug
It's not just that. My theory is that Simon is clever enough to realize that, if Fionna's dimension is stuck in his head and if it really will be obliterated when he dies, then his mortal lifespan means that billions of innocent lives are going to be cut short. The only way for this to be averted is for Prismo to step in, but he cannot do that so long as Simon remains himself. Regardless of whether or not Fionna's world can be stitched back into the multiverse, the only way for it to survive is for Simon to, at least briefly, become Ice King again.
Honestly this whole debacle really does reflect very badly on Prismo. As wishmaster, he should have known that the ice king's curse was reversible. Even if he hadn't lost access, it should have been obvious that the moment Simon returns, the destruction of Fionna's world was inevitable. And then he has the gall to admonish Simon for dealing with things beyond his purview? With that level of irresponsibility, I'd almost be rooting for the scarab if he weren't such a murderous, power hungry jerk
@@worthlesshuman5041 The fact that Fionna's dimension is so susceptible to collapse due to having to be tied to Simon is likely why it's such a big deal and Prismo's not allowed to do stuff like that. He did put all those lives in danger simply because he wanted to go outside his own jurisdiction, and now the consequences have come to bite him. The end of the episode at least shows that he recognizes Fionna and Cake as their own people who deserve not to be doomed to die with Simon's aging mind, so that's good at least. I hope he can have some sway in the rest of the series to really make up for the conundrum he's created.
@@worthlesshuman5041 To be fair he is only a Wishmaster and not some sort of Clairvoyant who can see the future. He choose Ice King because of his immortalaty. The case that ice King curse would be reversible was not really obvios. As i can see it, there were 3 possible options to eliminate the curse: 1. The crown loses his magic. This would also cause Simon to age and die rather quickly in a matter of a few hours at best. The onyl one we know can do that is that anti magic Wizard from that episode in S5 were it happend. That guy was somewhat Trapped? Bannished? kinda dead? i dont remember what it was. In any case he was originla not around so that wasnt a threat at first. 2. GOLB can do that as we saw in the season finale. But thta someone would call him, just to save Simon was also somethink no one could imagine. 3. Its more of a theorie, but i think a Wish from Prismo could have done it. Maby i missed something in the show that says it cant be done. But in this case Prismo problably had options. Lastly He might have created an easy to collapse dimension, but he just tried to create a working dimension of his fantasy. Simon on the other Hand tried to meddle with things that could destroy the dimensions. Also Prismo might be an old cosmik creature, but personallaty wise he is mostly just like any other. If you have the power to create a universe and you already lived a loooooooooooooooooooooong time, you cant tell me you wouldn`t be curios enough to give it a try.
Man, hearing Simon say he wants to be the Ice King again is like hearing a recovering alcoholic say that they want to drink again. I want that man to be happy
@@carlycrays2831I don’t think it’s a metaphor, even if there are parallels. Things don’t always have a deeper meaning, and often the readers/viewers of media see more to a work than what the creator actually put in.
What's really sad is it's not a far leap to compare Simon's situation with a drug addiction. Simon was "more fun" when he was Ice King, when he was loopy, destructive, and not in control of himself. It was fun to point and laugh at him when he couldn't help himself, when he'd do humiliating things or talk about the visions he'd see with his Wizard Eyes. Simon "got clean", but people complain now he's not fun anymore. He was more fun when he was under the influence of magic. People are literally pressuring him to relapse, just for their own benefit or amusement.
@@christopherscott1336 I personally hate cake and almost every character in Fionna and cake including characters that I used to like, they keep treating him like some JOKE,like some loser, like somebody that isn't his own person but a lame version of another guy. I love simon and he deserves better I never liked how in adventure time the show wanted people to treat Ice King like if he was Simon, because there two seperate people
@abhikergaming7783 Not everyone treats him like that. Finn honestly tries to help him. He is a little blinded about him nollt liking fionna and cake but that's because finn is also focused on the person he lost. While processing his grief he tried to help Simon but his way just didn't work for Simon.
Honestly that first scene with Simon and Marcy on episode 2 really gave me off that idea. When talking about Marcy's future Simon suddenly trails off when he has to talk about *his* future, implying that even then Simon felt lost with his life. Then he stares at the crown when Marcy falls asleep. When you hear what he said afterwards about wanting to be Ice King again there's a very ugly implication that maybe Simon didn't always wear the crown just to protect Marcy, he inmediately went to the crown at any sign of danger, even when it didn't seem that dire.
@@abhikergaming7783dunno if it is so much just that. Remember that one of Simon's main issues is that he is a man from another time. While part of the issue really is other people writing him off as a joke, another part of it is that he just simply can't adapt to the new world (I mean, his home and job is literally been an exhibit of the era before the Mushroom War) and part of him is desperate to just go back to how it all was. I mean, first time we see him has the Cheers theme some playing, nevermind the "Betty" elephant in the room.
@@Red_MOON187 Yup, from goofy and fun run of the mill bad guy bowser rip off to tragic amnesiac bordering on personality disorder to returning to lucidity then back to a more stable but amnesiac ice king then return to lucidity but with no powers, no family, and trapped in a world not his own but coping unhealthily until a fragment from ice king comes from into reality and realizing how powerless he really is without anything that made Ice King special... and realizing that Ice King was more of a life then Simon had at one point.
@@Butter3705 kind of, Ice King was singing his own version of the Fry song but with Gunther, and the writer's explanation for how Ice King knows Marcy's song was that he knows her personally and that kinda just kicked off Simon and Marceline relationship
Oh it’s definitely that, but I’d also say it’s because Simon has just been told things are falling apart because he was turned sane that he’s been given the tipping point that he’s just gonna screw his sanity if it means people will shut up about him or he can at least be too insane to care anymore.
Yeah I do think thats not helping. Like he wants to better himself and he keeps getting jabs whether intentional or not to him being ice king was more interesting than he is now
Even his friend Finn tells him to his face that he really likes the Fionna and Cake books he wrote when he was IK even though he was batshit crazy at that time and openly wants to forget he ever wrote those books
The way he said fionna and cake were real this whole time and just facepalm with the can. It ties well in the OG story. It shows that ice king is writing daily adventures of them while a whole universe is inside of him
The whole fanfic story that Ice King wrote back then turns out to be nothing more than just cover up by Prismo to hide the real Fionna and Cake universe that was hidden away all this time, even the new Fiona and Cake found out about the timeline where their adventures should supposed to be. Welp, she's right. I guess her life is magical now.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 Simon must've felt like extra crap at that point, and it's even made worse when Prismo replayed Simon's last moment with Betty. That's kinda messed up.
I remember a episode of fionna and cake where this red beam comes in at the end of the episode and appears to be uploading the adventures of fionna and cake into ice kings mind, like a hard drive. It was all foreshadowing. It’s insane how I finally found out what it was through hbo max.
The trauma this man has been through is unreal. The fact that he kind misses the Ice King sometimes, damn. Is it so much to ask for him so just be sane AND happy?
It always seemed to me that the Ice King is a part of Simon, because he is still a person, even if he is crazy. And the crown seeks to kill the personality completely, not to break it. For this reason, I was confused by the finale of the show, in which Gunther became the Ice King, and not that faceless entity who is not interested in princesses or drumming. So I'm not against Simon, who wants to get at least a part of what helped him live in this world. But I can very well understand the excitement about the excess of tragedy and trauma. (I'm sorry for my English)
The worst part is Simon would be happier as Ice King. Think about it like this, as Ice King he doesn’t need to be aware of everything he lost. Ice King is the definition of ignorance is bliss. Simon is sane enough to understand the outcome of the mushroom war, and the lost of Betty. Simon understands that he is the last human that understands what our society was like. He understands that Prizmo can’t save Betty, the only other creature he could relate to. If he becomes the Ice King now he wouldn’t be as sad since he wanted to do it instead of trying to fight it. He’d still be crazy about finding some love, but most of the other sad parts of the Ice King wouldn’t be there. It’s sad to say, but Simon being sane IS HIS BAD ENDING.
Finn tries. But he is basically Conan at this point and he is avoiding the grief of Jake's death like the plague. Finn is the one that can relate to Simon the most as the last fellow human but he has been in warrior mode for too long and won't stop. Doesn't help that Simon is the old man here. Finn never had any grandparents that we know of.
Let's recap. Simon.. -Went through an entire war where he watched everything and everyone he knew become a twisted hellish image of what it once was -Slowly went insane by the influence of a magical crown, to the point where he had to abandon the only person that made him happy in fear he would hurt her -"Woke up" hundres if not thousands of years later to a slightly better world, but essentially on a completely different planet than he once remembered -Saw the love of his life merge with a messed up cosmic horror, sacrificing herself to save him -Suffered PTSD from his time as Ice King, showing just how mentally scarred he is, to the point he misses just being able to zone out as him even if that means essentially dying for a while and letting another person take over -And now has to become the very thing he was for hundreds of years once again This makes even the life of Spider-Man in the comics seem nice in comparison
Actually, Peter's life is still Hell. One More Day still exists because the fundamental problems that plagued Spider-Man stories (the unwillingness to have Peter Parker grow up) still remain. Plus, we got the current Zeb Wells comic where Peter becomes corrupted by "the sins of Norman Osborn", Aunt May has outlived her purpose, etc. So...both Peter Parker and Simon Petrikov are in a Hell that happens to be enflamed by a misguided fanbase.
@@DarsiPadilla I mean, for Simon it serves the story. Spider man is living in hell just cuz the authors don't want to let Peter have his happily ever after. Which kinda plagues a lot of stories tbh.
It's not just the fact that Simon thinks he's better off as Ice King is very depressing, but imagine what would Marceline feel if she found out. That's some really good drama right there for later in the season.
Yeah, I think eventually we're gonna have like a "you took care of me, I'm gonna take care of you" moment with them and Marceline is gonna help him out at least a bit
To be fair I feel like nobody practically gives a care about the man, Marceline wanted everybody to treat ice king like SImon, and I find that insulting since both of those people are seperate people
@@abhikergaming7783 To be fair, she meant that so ppl would treat him more nicely and she already fully accepted the fact that he is now ice king at the time but still calls him Simon to honour his memory.
I definitely think he's going to become Ice King again. But this time it's going to be Simon the Ice King. His start (when he was with marcy kid) consist of him retaining his identity by fighting for others - this is true to his feelings but not his identity...so it's not enough in the long term - we then see ice king lose himself entirely - this has to be done for him to learn the true value of his identity and who he is - Then we see ice king regain some of his memories with some episode - he starts to act a little different after this. He gets a bit more chummy and less pure princess napping villain. Indicating that parts of simon are awakened although still crazy - Then he released of the crowns effects and become simon proper. He only seeks retreat from the crown out of fear, though. He hasn't established his own identity worth, hence he retreat to wearing dress and pretending to be ice king again. Because simon...IS ice king...his identity is one with it. He was crazy...and cursed...but he still did the things he did and acted the way he did. He has excuse, good ones, but he hasn't cognitivized and owned them yet. Thus, he hasn't forgiven himself and taken those memories in. Hence the coping mechanism. Simon cannot let the things he did in madness go, until he takes them in. If you get me. THEN we fast forward to fiona and cake's Simon. We see a man stuck to his pre-ooo identity. He's a relic, he has no place in this new world...even though he was here all along with it as ice king. He wants to go back, he can't. This is shown by his desire for betty. It's all about going back for simon. Back to the modern day...back to being with betty...and if he can't go back there...back to being ice king. Simon has had his identity, his resolve and its power challenged at every turn. Not just by the crown but by his own victimization and need to rely on others for help. In a way...even though he dosen't say it. He blames himself for what happened to betty because she had to save him. Now Simon is on a quest that will grant him NEW perspective on the crown and himself. He will see weak simons, evil simons, people that misued the crown i nways he would of never done so. People who lost more than he ever did to it, quicker too. Simon, I think, is going to to the realization is that he can be the ice king because he was the ice king before. But more importantly, simon was always there to, in fact...simon is STRONGER than the curse. Simon truest feelings and desires still shined through despite the crown curse. Simon is going to go through the travel of recombining all identities he has had. Rebuilding himself up and going forward stronger than ever. By realizing Simon is in ice king and in turn, by reverting ice king is now in simon. He will have a sincere unique perspective to mentally battle it's effect. But he will need the courage and confidence to own everything he is, has been and will be. He ain't there yet.
I was already prepared for madness when Tom Kenny said Fionna and Cake was the most emotional thing he ever worked on, but this show is already turning that up to eleven.
So apparently Tom Kenney has said playing Simon for Fionna and Cake was the most Emotioal role he's done. So yeah, we're not prepared at all for whats next
I still have a bad feeling about this, Man. Still, I get that Simon wants to help Fionna and Cake, but becoming Ice King again is not worth it. Last time he was Ice King, the crown literally messed the dude up. After all that’s happened to him in the past with him, Marceline and Betty. I just do not like where this could be going here. For the love of Glob, I hope he is not having second thoughts about this. I mean, we could be seeing Deju Vu all over again.😥😥😣🙏
Well I'm willing to gamble that after sometime when the crown broke and fixed their could be a salutation to shield the person's mind from the crown and still be ice king, but that is a 1 to a million odds, but its still possible.
There is A message about simon messing his old life that sometimes we think something was good or bad only to realize How good he had it when it now gone or now see the effects the outcomes from the aftermaths effects us
Yeah. If they can find a way turn him back to normal after then maybe they could try it. It won't really be Simon. But to be fair he's likely to be miserable for the rest of his life if he can't bring Betty back so he only has two choices either: First choice, he keeps looking for Betty or Two: he moves on, which is really hard. Or three he presses pause on his "existence" and lets Ice King take wheel since he wasn't really conscious so it'd be an temporary eternal nap or limbo for him.
I think it would be really interesting if when he does put the crown back on "if he does". he doesn't turn into ice king and instead manifests a new character.
@@bluespirit5112 That’s actually Gunther. If you go back to the finale of Adventure Time, he makes a wish after putting on the crown to become the ice king (or at least how he envisioned him in his mind)
@@seandent3732 speaking of that, i like to point out an interesting thing about og gunther (the dinosaur) and previous wearers of the crown. i feel like they all just died when golb digesting the crown, or at the very least, the crown itself lost their personality (as well as simon's personality) of what made the ice king, ice king. so gunther making a new wish, made an entirely different entity all togehter, and most likely an actual cool and loving guy. less insane and more eccentric.
@@markhester6556 I think I would have become a drummer. Drums are cool. I would also molest people much more often, write even more disturbing fan fiction, and know even less about morality and decency. It's really terrible to forget about the people close to you and their feelings, but otherwise I would be fine. But it would be bad for these close people. Oh, and I have no idea what meaning I used the word "molest", but I meant that I'm already quite annoying. God, I'm stupid when I try to speak English.
I think Simon needs to find a middle ground for what happened to him. I hope he actually ends up like Fiona's dream, where he has his ice powers and magic, but he's less crazy. Magic can be powered by either Sadness or Madness, so let's hope for the best outcome for Simon
I know it's a long shot, but from the original runtime of Adventure Time, we got to see that the crown lost one of its jewels during the final montage of the last episode and that another one would be stolen again by Charlie's son in the distant future so there's a chance that maybe putting the crown on with less of its components would cause less of the insanity it did on Simon the last time, a more containable version of the magic, madness, sadness syndrome.
@@shikitheblood7428 we know from the storytime episodes that the Gunther Ice King is still around 1000 years later, but missing all the gems, Charlie's son we know gets one, what if Simon takes one of the others, we could see a world with four Ice Kings, Gunther, Gibhons, Simon, and whomever takes the third jewel. Gunther wished to be Ice King and even without the gems likely can still support the magical form thanks to being Orgalorg under all that.
I really want to see Simon and Marcy's interactions due to his depression and personal demons. I know besides PB, he's one of the people she cares about most in the world, but considering he did try to tell her, but she was in such a good mood and having fun with PB that it probs made Simon afraid to tell her. But she's gonna be so upset to find out about it for sure.
Yeah it was truly sad seeing that Simon doesn’t try to tell her his problems because She’s happy now and she has her own life outside of him and he doesn’t want to bring her or PB down. Though I’m sure they would’ve try something if Simon opened up.
Can I just say what a good voice actor Tom Kenny is? We all know him as Spongebob and the Ice King, but when he gets to be a truly human character like Simon, with all the baggage and depression and regrets that come with being a realistically human character, he can really tug on your heartstrings with just a few words. You can hear the weariness and despair in Simon’s heart.
Hear me out. Betty's wished to keep Simon safe, right? What if Simon becoming the Ice King again is enough to bring GOLB Betty back? That'd be heartbreaking because Simon would have finally gotten what he wanted, but he wouldn't even remember what he wanted in the first place.
I havent watched the series yet, but watching this clip, just made me realize Simon only wants to go back to being Ice King because the two person that wants him to go back to being Simon is not with him anymore. Betty fused with Golb, and Marceline is doing Bubblegum. So being Simon is like being a Nobody.
Litterly everybody else treats him like a joke,EVERYBODY and I hate characters that I used to love I feel like Fern would have been supportive towards SImon and would treat him like a accual person and not a worse version of the ice king

Jesus Christ. A eternity of being lost in your own mind until you die. And he’s willing to do that because of two people who magically popped out of his head on day. Just because he’s at least happy as the ice king. That’s just cartoon suicide

That scene with Death was my first thought, "You're gonna be Ice King till the sun blows up", implying that if he didn't die at that moment he would continue being Ice King forever, at least until the Earth no longer exists. But when he got cured in the Finale with Betty's transformation I began to question that. Was death wrong, or did he mean Simon will continue living like that until the end, being a sort of Pseudo Ice King. I have a prediction that they may go two ways with this in Fionna and Cake, either they kill off Simon and hia consciousness can flow off and be with Betty Golb, or they somehow turn him into a non crazy version of Ice King. The second prediction is based off Fionna's dream in the first episode where she meets an Ice Prince. Maybe it's foreshadowing about a cured Simon.
I think Death just said that because Ice King was immortal, and if he went back to being Ice King and remained like that he wouldn't until the Sun exploded.
@@Despotic_Waffle Death didn't have to see the future to say that. He probably knew how the crown worked and if Simon put it on he would become madness and immortal.
This is something more universal than you think. When a person's life become directionless, depressed, or in some form of tragic state, they resort back to a time in their life when "things were a lot simpler". This could range from a person in their 20's moving back in with their parents after struggling to live on their own, to someone watching old cartoons or playing nostalgic videogames for comfort because it was something they enjoyed when they were younger. However, like Simon's case, there are darker paths one could go back down because "it's when things made sense"; the time when they were in a bad spot, but at least knew how to live with it. It could be addiction, abusive relationships, and for Simon's case, a return to madness.
That alone rlly doesn’t prove anything; there are 50 dead worlds and we didn’t explore nearly all of them. Also simon could’ve been reincarnated already. But we’ll see what happens
Be interesting if he did went back as ice king. Almost be exactly like suicide, every one around him would be sad that Simon is gone and voluntary. Those close too him would be mad confused on the "WHY" he did it and blamed everyone and themselves that he's really gone this time.
@jeffnummy817 mentioned this and I also have strong feelings about it as well but what if ice prince is actually foreshadowing Simon becoming some kind of brand new character with himself having the ice powers? I hope that I’m right because I want Simon to be happy with Betty and Marceline instead of simply giving up on life because “being Simon sucks”
I think he needs a magical crown to be cool hes already cool he just needs PEOPLE TO APRECIATE HIM FOR WHO HE IS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Its funny looking back at Evergreen, cause he would alwats talk down to Gunther, but now Gunther has effectively become one of the most consequential characters in the show. Simon's urge to become the Ice King wouldnt even exist if it weren't for him.
I don’t think a lot of people are giving Tom Kenny all the praise he deserves in this show While he's definitely well known for playing more positive and happy characters (such as Spongebob, Spyro and even Ice King before he turned back to Simon) when it comes to the emotional and serious moments, the man delivers and beyond. You can feel the tirdness and sadness in his voice, I still get chills at 0:43 There's a reason why he's considered to be one of the greatest voice actors of all time, he and many other voice actors deserve so much more praise
0:36 It actually makes perfect sense for Cake to act this way because she was literally just a regular cat who just recently gained the ability to communicate with others, so of course she has little to no concept of empathy or social skills
@@RukathesoldierJake could be blunt at times but the behavior in this video is closer to Genuinely Monstrous. Like, Marcy would be pretty justified in ending their world for this. I get that they don't actually have any attachment to the man, but it should be pretty obvious just from what Literally Everyone has said around them that they'd be condemning a man to a fate worse than death for their own benefit.
My only fear of that is it would consider the possibility of Simon dying by getting killed off in this series. Those glimpses of FnC's world getting destroyed and FnC walking while crying in the intro might possibilly hinting that... *I DON'T LIKE IT.*
Lol legend has it that after Spongebob discovered Bikini Bottom was now ruined and abandoned with all his friends mysteriously gone in that confusing Spongehenge episode, his attitude shifted to acting like Squidward, and adapted to using unhealthy coping mechanisms to cope with the pain of the loss of his loved ones, at one point he couldn´t take it anymore and used one of Sandy´s inventions to hop into another dimension (that being the Adventure Time universe) in hopes of living a new and better life as a totally different person, unfortunately he died by accident, met Death and asked to be reincarnated, thus his soul being reborn into a human and changed his name to Simon Petrikov, sadly though he is unaware of the many ¨cold¨ chain of events that will unfold in his new life.
I know how hard it is for Simon right now, but I'm also thinking about how this is for Fionna and Cake. I mean the second Fionna met Simon, a dead/unconscious duck got shoved in her face while this old guy was shouting stuff she couldn't understand cause she has no context 😭 All she knew at that moment was she's in the world she's always wanted to be in and that she wanted her cat back. I guess so far, Simon's been this guy who does nothing but whine a lot in their eyes? I hope as the series progresses, they'll develop a super awesome bond and come to understand each other.. I mean that's what it looks like it's building up to, but we'll see.
I dont think he'll become ice king again whatever he attempts will likely have a different result (also that means theres no farmwold lich hand in fionna and cakes universe since it was disconnected)
You reminded me tho that if they travel to multiple universes in the show they can encouter the Litch hand at some point and I sure hope that will happen
while I don't expect this to happen, imagine if by the end of the series or season, we get Simon as the Ice King, but able to retain (at least some of) his sanity edit:...well then-
I can’t believe Simon is just throwing Betty’s sacrifice away just because he’s sad she’s not here. Like bro the reason Betty’s not here is because she wanted you to live as Simon not ice king.
Honestly I get it. The only thing he has left to lose is his sanity. Betty is gone, he’s in a world he can barely exist in, everyone is growing up and moving away from him. Marcy cares about him but she’s so busy with her own life that Simon is more lonely than anyone can comprehend. At least as Ice King he was happy
@@Broomer52it's less that "he was happy" and more that the madness literally made him fit in better. because Ooo itself is a land of madness from the viewpoint of a regular human.
Betty sacrificed everything for Simon to the point she fused herself with Golb Simon is ready to sacrifice his own identity just to numb his pain, knowing that Ice King is bad but more simpler
So do you guys remember that episode where that weird space creature crashed on earth and had to use those memory things to escape. Then when it did it showed that ice king looking creature flying after it escaped. Do you think that was the one that married turtle princess or simon?
ice thing is what it's called, nobody knows what happened to the rest of his body, but aside from his physical appearance, i heard someone said that he went insane (even more?) after turtle princess past away.
I feel like Simon wanting to return to ice king is almost kind of like… a metaphor for suicide in a way. He wants to lose his identity, any form of self if it means he doesn’t have to deal with such heavy sorrows :(
The saddest part is that Simon saying he wants to be Ice King isn't just equivalent to a drug addict on the edge of relapse, its literally a thousand times worse. Simon as the Ice King was unstable and completely aware of it, unable to conteol himself. He was mostly harmless, sure, but the fact that he'd rather be insane and twisted then deal with his emotions is just sad
Lovelovelovee that everyone is bringing up the season 5 death scene with new context because even if we didnt realize what Death meant he really meant that Simon internally will always crave a piece of him he can never attain back either one sided as a genius with lonelines or an ice wizard gone insane with loneliness there is no in-between for his psyche to be comfortable knowing theres one side he has to fight for.🎉
Even if Simon becomes Ice King again it wouldn't be the same as before. For example his obsession with kidnapping princesses was a subconscious attempt at filling Betty's void and we see them reunited in the trailer here
Simon Petrikov. You deserve to be happy and I wish you had Betty. You wear that crown you'll lose Betty and any care you had for her. I really feel bad for Simon Petrikov. Its so sad to see this man tormented by crown induced delirium or his own depression. He deserves happiness. As for Fiona, no comment. Everyone deserves happiness. Simon is a good man. I feel so sad for his back story. I refuse to call him ice king.
Personally speaking I feel they set up Simon to become the Ice King again since the very first episode of the show when Fionna and Cake were drawn by the beautiful singing of the Ice Prince. It is a subtle sign of confirmation that it'll happen, but perhaps this time he might be able to control it. To me Simon's story in Fionna and Cake isn't about self acceptance and living with what you have in the world you're given, if anything the show starts like that and it shows his life was miserable even after truly trying to fit in with his own weird limits. Fionna and Cake is challenging Simon to be weirder, daring, to go against what he truly is and accept he can be more. Wanting to be the Ice King again is step one of the process, somehow yet sadly. He's breaking his character role, he's breaking his archetype and it makes sense because it makes his character change wether for the better or for the worse but is a needed change he acknowledge he needs because just being Simon no longer makes him happy, going back to it just keeps his character on the same circle he has been in this entire time, something he desperately wishes to break from but hasn't realized as he thinks getting Betty back will give him the peace he seeks; Something that could happen but for as happy and colorful Adventure Time is, it often doesn't gives you happy endings and win/win situations... Something tells me Betty will reappear but won't be reunited with Simon, it would be too happy of an ending and writers know that, they're setting up Simon to bite the apple of sin to develop his character into breaking out his comfort zone on his own, something that wouldn't be possible if Betty came back to his life. What I THINK is happening is that Fionna and also Cake are the answer to Simon's problematic, after all their character arcs have to complement, right? Fionna is Simon's antithesis, a wild person with a absolutely mess of a life who wishes for both adventure but also stability on her life, whom which alongside Cake who is as much of a mess seem to be the counters to Simon's routinely yet lonely depressing life, they are the ones that are gonna give Simon what his character truly needs which is a life of risk and adventure, alongside people that need him to give them order in their lives. Is oddly weird and forgive if I enter shipping territory but to me it actually feels like since day one they're setting Simon and Fionna to have a thing possibly, mostly because Fionna keeps dreaming about her Ice Prince like it was a sign of destiny, and we have poor Simon who wants nothing but feel needed again by someone to the point he wants to dive to be the Ice King. Would it be weird at first? Sure. But would it make sense? Absolutely because remember, for as much of a gag that was OG Fionna being in love with Simon's Ice King at the end of almost all their episodes, it was a well established trope that always repeated and perhaps could serve as the biggest high-key foreshadowing as to what could end up happening to these characters now that they're stuck together and having to learn to compliment one another. Though that's just me looking at the series from a writer's perspective. *EDIT:* Theory debunked, but I embrace the L. Enjoyed the ending for what it was, and enjoyed the series all the way through and discussing about it. Wishing nothing but peace and love to those I had enjoyed theorizing and arguing with ✌✨
The tragedy of the reality that even as the ice king, he was not happy. Delusional, but never happy. Multiple early episodes have gone out of their way to say the ice king is not happy. He seemed like a happy and fun wizard on the outside (fiona and cake pointing it out) but he wasn’t. But simon knows it, and to him that delusion was still better than his current depression.
Here's a horrifying thought: Simon turns back into I've king but he has the worst of both (mental) worlds. One as insanity from the crown and the other as he is aware of everything he does as ice king
been reading the comments and a lot are saying that marcy's neglecting(?) simon or at least doesn't care for him enough to help him but simon said it himself to finn, he doesn't want to tell marcy he's been depressed and it just so happened that when he called she was having fun with bonnie (she has her own life guys cmon) but we know that marceline really cares for simon. even for after a thousand years, even when he forgot about her, she'd do anything to help him. but simon doesn't tell her of his problems so shes oblivious and its not her fault, also in ep 7 of fionna and cake simon still calls her "my little marcy." he still treats her like a kid which I kinda cant blame because the last time he saw her she when he was still sane she was still a kid. most of his memories of marcy was him taking care of her so he probably just doesn't know how to be upfront with marceline with his feelings cuz he thinks he needs to be brave for her.
