I tried to switch from dosing weeklty to dosing daily, but I just keep forgetting it. Which is strange because I do not forget to feed my fish. I now dose about twice a week. For my new tank I have an autodosing system planned.
All top quality tanks! Thanks for the tour. I'm very interested in the High budget vs Low budget experiment. I recommend to put the co2 diffuser in front of the filter exit in the low budget. That's the way you have it set up in the High budget tank. That makes a lot of difference in dissolving co2 and I think is not fare to the low budget tank.
I just started with the hobby again 3 days ago and I am now using the tropica all in one every day but I am also doing 50% water changes every day (at least at the beginning). I absolutely love your second tank with all the red plants! It looks amazing, please don't take it down. Also the vase is stunning, it looks really natural :o

Hey Mark , Congrats on 50 K 🥂 Your channel has really had a big influence on how I manage my setups and it really got me to appreciate what I have . When I found your channel I was new to the world of aquascaping but in those couple of months I knew it was what I wanted . I was ADA ( Aquarium Design Addict ) spending money on tissue cultures was getting out of control & I knew it ... But I always new that I could stop myself @ anytime and that if I wanted to be great @ having planted tanks , just Keep buying new tanks , more plants 🌪️🌪️🌪️ I was "hooked" on those display tanks from The Green Machine & Green Aqua etc. really chasing after something that was not in my best interest and that is right when I started watching your channel . Did you show some of your Dads aquariums ? Sorry if I am confusing you & someone else 🙄 So this much I do know , I had no clue back then and almost every plant I bought I killed⁶ but now focusing on making improvements that I learned from yo I know so much more about the intrIcacies in the hobby and now finally all my plants have never looked so good and I know so much more from watching MJ Aquascaping 💚💙
I've also been in "Liquid nature Vienna". I talked with them about their fertilisation routine and basically i remember these guidelines: 1. They dose at maximum half the recommended dosage from Masterline I and II 2. If there is a green algae, they reduce Masterline II a little 3. If there is a BBA, they reduce Masterline I a little 4. They dose recomended dosage of Masterline Carbo I am dosing according to their recomendation, I am currently at 3ml Masterline II / day and Masterline I only 1ml / day in my 90P Aquarium! and i was never so satisfied with my aquarium.
I'm lazy but very consistent. Using APT Complete dosing 1 pump everyday (about 1/2 dosage for 60p tank) in a heavily planted tank since day 1 of my setup and its doing fine except for a few ups and downs which happens to all of us. However I wish to try out the ADA ferts in future setups. Thanks for sharing your own experience with all these ferts.
I got a 4 gallon vase off Amazon ("CYS Excel Large Clear Glass Cylinder Vase" in the US Amazon) after being inspired by your vase. It's been running for around a month now and I'm totally loving it. I think in another month it will be grown in very nicely.
As always this is awesome. Your tanks are very wonderful. In your next experiment you should try professional vs homemade fertilizers. and I keep insisting on videos of emerged :p.

I’ve got to confess. I don’t use ferts 😬😅 I did buy some a long time ago but both bottles are still full, I used them I think 2 times, got algae near instantly afterwards and it just put me off. Never really had any issues since though, plants always growing nice and never any algae 🤷🏽♂️ I must have magic water 😂
I had the exact same problem. Went out and bought tons of fertilizers, all kinds. Started dosing and algea exploded. Before dosing and now since I stopped it’s basically algea free except for some algea on the glass. Now I’m scared to try again. But I feel like I don’t really need it. My plants are looking beautiful to be honest. If I see deficiencies I’ll start dosing for that specific deficiency, until then I’m not touching it 😅
I'm very impressed with the big shallow transformation. I didn't really like v1.0, but now it's something of a beauty. Those crypts look awesome. I came across Hydrocleys during a visit to fish store in Rotterdam a couple of weeks ago, and I had to take it home.
Hi Marc Not sure if this is applicable to these Fertilizers....but you shouldn't dose Micro and Macro together as the Iron in the Micro reacts with the Phosphate and renders Iron mostly non available to plants! Just dose Trace/Micro on a Tuesday/Thursday and Macro the rest of the days!

I'm very inconsistent with my liquid fertilizer. I do use root tabs for the aquarium substrate. I've been trying to do better with dosing the liquid. But my water is missing something. I test sporadically also.. LOL 😆
Question for you - in a 5.5 gallon tank with only buce, anubias and staurogyne repens, do you think that CO2 could possibly cause more problems than help? The tank has a plant grow light hanging above it with emersed plants as well.

The light on the 70L tank is running on 75% The light on the Big Shallow is running on 60% The light on the Vase is running on 70% Everything else on 100%
Where I live to pump means to fart so I spent most of this video stifling giggles as you very seriously talked about how often you like to pump. Yes I am a grown adult.

Hello, al the way from South Africa 👋🏻. I would like to know when should I start adding liquid fertilizer? My scape is two month old and my NO2 and NO3 levels are 0, but I am struggling with hair algae. I dont want to add fertilizer and give the hair algae more food. Any comments would be appreciated.
I would start dosing a small amount of fertilizer and focus on getting rid of the hair algae. Either by reducing light intensity/duration, or by adding floating plants, or maybe you need to bump up the CO2 a little.
Hey MJ! You said "I like to start with the Masterline I, for just the macro nutrients". However, masterline I contains micro nutrients. Is it correct that you meant starting with masterline I for just micro nutrients? Edit: or I misunderstood 🙈 now listening multiple times it also sounds like micro haha.
I noticed you are injecting so little CO2 to your aquariums, my tanks are full of bubbles and drop checker is allways green, your difuser sprays few bubbles visualy. Do you do that intentionaly and for what reason?
Feels like I'm injecting a lot of CO2 in my tanks, but the diffusers are quite good and they make the CO2 bubbles very small, so maybe you don't see them well on camera.
In het aquarium met de rode planten had ik het nodig omdat er wat gevoelige garnalen in zaten, in het kleine bakje bovenop de kast gebruik ik het omdat ik van mening ben dat planten beter groeien in zacht water.
tbh i dont like Masterline. And i‘ve been in aquascaping-stores which especially don‘t recommend masterline. And everytime i gave masterline another try i only got algae issues.
@@MJAquascaping i switched to Aqua Rebell, which performed way better in my case. i have to say i dont think that masterline fertilizers are bad, they seem to work great for a lot of people and great aquascapers... but not for me :D
As a lazy tank keeper, thank you for the video! Any reason you have the microphone pointing forward and dangling off your shirt front instead of securely attached to your shirt collar? It should pick up your voice more clearly and reject more background noise.
