Great bobbers, used many during my days of fishing for crappies. Great tasting fish. Had bass, sunfish, crappie, catfish, peacock bass, pike over the years. Now I get mine at restaurants, deep fried. Two days ago, my catfish fillets at Cracker Barrel, with coleslaw, fried apples, corn bread. Yummy!

I commented in another of your videos that we always used a blue jig under a cork. My dad always used a 3" cigar float that he would carve into an inch long bobber with a flat top and rounded bottom. We fished in less than 6' of water in that La spillway so we always used the peg to grip the line at a certain depth. I still fish that way except I've found the 1.5" comal cork works just the same. If it's unweighted, the bobber comes up out of the water if they feed up on it. You can also tell if you are fishing too deep. Loving the videos. Now I need to find some fish.

I've used this very technique for decades barring the knot used on the hook not even knowing i was using this technique. My father always fished using a flyrod no matter where we went fishing and as a dutiful son I always wanted to be just like my father so, when I decided I was a big enough man I donned a fly rod just like him, only thing was I couldn't manipulate that cordage the way he so masterfully executed it so he rigged me up exactly the same as you. To this day a slip bobber is the only float I have any use for, now I live on the Gulf and very seldom do I use a bobber.

Nice video. Living on Lake Barkley where Crappie have to be 10 inches to keep it's tough watching one keep smaller fish. I did live in Michigan previously and can remember the days I use to keep them under 10 inches as well. Some lakes just don't grow larger Crappie. I did very much enjoy the video. I will most likely buy a few of those Revolution X bobbers to have on hand they do look very versatile. Most the people here seem to use the line through bobbers. I do like the versatility of the one you are using though. It made sense about what you were saying about putting the split shot above the hook as well. Crappie are light biters and if you don't know they have it in their mouths you can't set the hook before they spit it.

Yep, the slip should reel in without any issues. If you set the hook on a fish, be careful with reeling the slip through the first eyelet of the rod. I've found this is were the slip will slide to a different spot on the line.

But if you’re taking the hook off and putting on a jig what makes a difference if you have a slip bobber or not because you’re still can slide the barber on your line and put on your Jig
@Therapy-n-Session
@Therapy-n-Session 3 года назад
So for my understanding, when you cast your bobble out and it hits the water it lays on its side until you get a bite and then it stands up???
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 года назад
It will lay on its side until the weight and jig/minnow pull the line through the slip of the bobber until it reaches the stop (yarn or rubber stop). Then the bobber should be upright. If the bobber goes sideways after being upright, that indicates a fish has bit the hook and is rising up in the after column with the bait.
@christopherascherl2411
@christopherascherl2411 3 года назад
I have one slip-bobber that the line comes out the side of the bobber a little above the water line instead of straight through the top like most. Normally, it sits at about 30 degrees from vertical; if you get a hit, it stands straight up before going down and if it lays down your weight is either on bottom or you have a fish carrying the bait up. I didn't know if was different than a normal slip-bobber when I got it and I have mixed emotions about it. I still use the bobbers I got in the pack but I don't think they are any better than the normal ones.

i am curious about your boat, currently fishing out of an 18ft john but i have 4 boys. 6 4 and twin 3 year old's that want to fish with me. we are looking to upgrade to a pontoon or something else we need the weight capacity thoughts about your setup
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 4 года назад
My boat is 17'6". It can fish 3 comfortably, but 4 is a bit crowded. Pontoon is an ok option for multiple people fishing, tuning, etc. It can be hard to control and stay on a specific spot though. A larger tiller boat would work well of your main focus is fishing. Something in the 19-20ft range can fish 4 people very comfortably
@Cerus98
@Cerus98 4 года назад
I personally wouldn’t take that many kids out at once even on a pontoon unless a second adult was on board. Just too risky. The rails give ya a false sense of security. Plus they really do suck for serious fishing. They are a few geared more towards fishing but they’re going to be way more expensive than a nice bass boat. As for capacity, most boats will have a USCG plate with the max # of passengers and total weight. My 18’ aluminum Ranger is 4 persons or 620lbs. While it can seat four adults they’d have to be tiny ones to be under the weight limit. And while four young kids and myself would be under the weight limit I’d be over the seating capacity. Either scenario would result in a hefty fine if I got stopped by a warden. For five people on a bass boat you’re probably looking at a 20’ glass boat or a multi species deep V. Even more risky than a pontoon with that many kids so I’d figure on having two at a time with ya so just about any bass boat will work. If they aren’t used to boats then either go with glass or a ranger aluminum for stability. Either will be rock solid with the larger boats having more stability than smaller.

@@FloppingCrappie the tops where they meet the main body. Usually while pulling the spring up. They were the light up revolution x I think. They work, just have to be careful when pulling the spring up not to torque to much in the top.

Most people in the Midwest pronounce it "croppy". I mainly hear the "crappy" pronunciation from people that live in the southeast.

@@FloppingCrappie idfg.idaho.gov/question/what-types-live-bait-are-allowed-be-used-idaho Are we allowed to use live minnows for bait while fishing for crappie and bluegill here in Idaho? And are we allowed to use bee moths or as some call it wax worms? Answer: No live swimming bait is legal for use while fishing in Idaho waters. Non-swimming live bait like worms, nightcrawlers, fly larve (maggots), wax worms, etc. are allowed to be used while fishing. Live crayfish can only be used for bait if they were captured from the water in which you are fishing. The reason for not allowing live bait is two-fold. First, we don't want new invasive fish species to be established in Idaho from live bait escaping from anglers. The second issue has to do with transmission of diseases. Some out-of-state bait sources carry diseases that could be transmitted to Idaho fish populations and cause population level mortality. This not only effects recreational populations of fish but can also become introduced into commercial fish rearing operations and have huge impacts on their business. The argument about rigging a bobber so it can be taken off if you want to switch to a jighead from just a hook, is moot. In order to do this you need to cut the hook from the line anyways to rig the jighead, so you can slip off the bobber at that time. The other alternative is to just tie on a wire leader with a snap swivel, so you can just replace the hooks and leave the bobber in place. I've fished this way for years.

I have been screwed over by Mercury and will never touch another one. Yamaha and Johnson outboards are the best. My Yamaha can out run and perform miles past any Mercury. Less than a year old I had to do a major overhaul. Top cylinder starved to death, piss poor engineering.
