Simple & Cheap Festool Storage

As I collected more tools, they came with more containers. Plenty of woodworkers I follow say to ditch the containers, but I say different. These systainers keep the tools, all the little accessories intact, and easy to access. But how do you store these efficiently? I saw Festool sells shelves, but greater than $100 each. I didn't want to spent my time building complex storage, and I didn't want to break the bank buying shelves. So I came up with something new..

This is a great idea! Just found your channel and subscribed. Your uni-strut video popped up in my feed this morning. (An equally good idea. I think I might combine both ideas and hang the threaded rod cabinet from some uni-strut. A tip for cutting treaded rod and repairing the thread ends is to use a thread cutter pre installed spin it off and repair the thread. I recessed a couple of thread cutters into plywood discs and then use either a small belt sander or drill press rubber sander attachment in a drill and spin them off and it repairs the thread. You can do the same thing with a just a nut but the nut won’t last long. I noticed you gang cut your thread rod so nuts would be the way to go… If you use threaded rod couplers (extensions) I would recommend using an extra nut on each side of the coupler as lock nuts. See my tip above for spinning nuts on quickly. I would use the rubber drill press attachment for that so you don’t damage the threaded rod or round off the nut. You can also just attach a drill to the end of the rod and spin that if the rod is short enough, or if you have a helper. I use and old drill I don’t mind chewing the jaws up on or I will slip a short piece of tubing over the rod to protect my drill jaws.

Yeah I really think there are quiet a few things (as you have pointed out) that could be improved about this design. Great ideas!

I can't stop picturing actor Zachary Woods' (Gabe on The Office, Jared on Silicon Valley) face hearing your voice as commentary.

Great idea, thanks. For high speed nut positioning you could use a drill fitted with a round plate covered in rubber or similar non slip material.

Yeah there's some good ideas in hindsight to improve this idea, but its a good springboard to improve on! As it is, I haven't needed to touch it since install and its worked great! I'm dreading the day I have to change it though :)

Spacers between the levels would be more stable. Particularly if you were to cut the shelves to accept them. And it would cut the number of nuts in half.

The nuts are cheap enough because they come in bulk, but I agree, there's a lot of ways to improve this or change it. In the end, i spent part of a day and haven't touched it since, so its working well enough!

I actually enjoyed that build and might make it. Good job. Oh...and....you mentioned the file for the CNC? If you don't want to give that out I understand.

Glad you liked it, thank you! Regarding the CNC file, I do have them, but they need some cleanup (maybe a lot). They are in vCarve format. Are you interested in building this bench?
