The equipment in this video blew my mind. I've never wanted to ditch my chisels and hand saws until now...

Haha, I enjoy my chisels and hand saws too. There is something very visceral about working with the most fundamental tools if you have the time :)

I guess I am a bit of a gadget freak, but Isn't that half the fun of woodworking 🤷 👍

Спасибо за поддержку, проект был тихим, но скамья оказалась неоценимой. Больше всего на свете масса кажется самым большим преимуществом любого рабочего места!

Very cool build! I'm about to start my bench build soon and while Im planning to use mostly hand tools, this is very inspiring and gave me a few ideas to incorporate into my own. Great video, subscribed!

Awesome, what kind of bench are you building? I found the Chris Schwarz book "The Workbench Design Book: The Art & Philosophy of Building Better Benches" very enlightening..

@@pixelwoodworks I'm not sure I can put a name to it lol. I read the Anarchist's Workbench and have been inspired, but I am gaining inspiration from others as well like yours, Paul Sellers benches are great, as well as Rob Cosman's. I usually just shoot from the hip and it morphs as I build. I bought a bunch of cherry I plan to use for the base, but still deciding on a top. I've gone from laminated ash, to butcher block slabs, to MDF laminated and sealed. I just cant decide on how to build the top yet. I may end up laminating a bunch of 2x6 pine lol.

I hear SYP bench-tops are great. The cherry base will be beautiful. Your really looking at a wide variety of styles. I like the shoot from the hip approach, but I have to have a rough idea of where I'm heading or my builds go off the rails :) What kind of woodworking are you doing and is it with hand or power tools?

What a beautiful bench. I admire your craftsmanship and design capabilities. Approximately what were the real design and build times?

Thank you for the comment. As a hobby woodworker, real world times are a bit hard to nail down because I worked on the project some nights and weekends but over a fairly long span of time. I spent a lot of time researching the type of bench to build. The design time had to be about a month as I researched how to make the top slide, prevent racking, the products to buy, talked to vendors about vices etc. Actual build time on the bench? I recorded 75 hours of video, so my best guess is somewhere around 75 hours of me being in the shop working on it.

@@pixelwoodworks Thanks for putting these time factors into perspective for us. I believe too few people realize the time commitment this venue requires. They complain of too few videos rather than acknowledging what it takes to produce at this level. I did especially enjoy what sounded like a dog with a squeaky toy in the background. Glad that didn’t get edited out.

Glad to see real folks on this channel 😊 I've seen people work on 'heirloom' projects for years!! As they say, nothing worth doing is easy 😂

A very cool bench and video. This is some awesome engineering, but from a practical perspective I worry about the stability of the benchtop given the relatively short leg tenons (they look only about 1") and no direct joinery between the rear slab and the base (unless I missed it in the vid). Have you experienced any racking on the rear part? Also curious why lags instead of drawbores for the legs / stretchers?

Thank you! "they look only about 1" -- yes 1" if I remember correctly. Zero movement, its been rock solid. The lags came with the kit so I used them but the M&T joints with PVA seems plenty strong without the additional bolts, I suspect. I certainly could have used drawbores, but this was a very long project, and by the time I got to the base I was must "over it" :) I don't expect the bench will ever shift or rack.
