Simple Kohler Carb Clean, simple and effective method. 

My husband passed away recently and it now falls to me to keep all this stuff running. Your video was to the point and simple to understand. Now all I have to do is find the carburetor and take it off!!

VERY helpful, Travis! My son in TN has both the 1056 my folks bought new and its twin that I bought thru him so we'd each have one to mess with. Both have varying degrees of the "choke it to keep it running" disease and next time I'm there I'll know just what to do.

Great video! I found it as my Cub Cadet 94M was stalling today. Bought some carb cleaner and opened it up - full of crud. Used a small brass brush, cleaned it up and now it runs great! Couldn’t have done it without your video.

Haven't ran my Cub xlt1042 w Kohler 19 Courage for 2 years. I only replaced battery & it started, lowered idle, it stopped, won't start. Drained gas lines, fuel tank, changed spark plug, still no start. Will try carb clean. Like others posted, never did this but try is the operative word. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the Vid, I have to clean the Carb on my Craftsman DYT4000 Today. It has the Kohler Command Pro 25 HP GV730S. I didn't use it for a couple of weeks, and now it's running wicked lean. I have to have the choke on full or it will die. If I supplement it with carb cleaner, I can run it without the choke on, and it runs normal. I think the jet is full of some gunk from that ethanol in our gas. Certainly a fuel problem. Hope to fix it today.

Thanks for the video. I have a 1960s Tripco Teebirdie golf cart that won't start. Putting a bit of gas in the cyilnder will get it to start and run until it burns what I put in there. I expect the carb float to be stuck or maybe the needle. Wanted to see what I was getting into before i took off the carb because I'm not familiar with this stuff. Somewhat mechanically inclined just haven't had the experience. Will try this out. Thanks again

Always replace your needle valve, seat, and bowl gasket. This will keep you from doing the same job twice. Ultrasonic cleaners are the cat's meow for carb rebuilds if you can afford one. Clean everything, disassemble as needed. Most small engine carbs are essentially the same, just different sizes for the horsepower.

I also run a really fine wire threw the tiny holes in the jets and carb. anywhere there is a hole i run wire threw it. all it takes is 1 stupid piece of dirt. other then that this is a great video!!

The float needle had become stuck. Took it out and cleaned with very very fine grade paper,just enough to take the dirt off. Local store doing carburettor cleaner for £1 English pound that is and sprayed all the ports out and as I say....didn't hardly have to pull the rope and started.

Thought this was gonna be simple haha j/k .. Good Vid . Tryin to resolve an issue here. Kohler 18.5 motor , Getting good fuel TO the carb but will not start. Spray gas into carb,fires right up & quikly dies within a few seconds when the gas is burned off. ....Beyond frusterating. My mower has been down for Months literally. So this vid just may help. Ty

Michael Fresh is correct all the needle valves I removed from this style carb have had a small clip holding it onto the float? Is it even necessary though? Humm? Also' due to the chitty Ethanol in our fuel now I always replace the needle valve with an all metal or newer updated rubber tip needle valve that can handle the crap. Ethanol swells the older rubber needle valve tips making them fail to seat. I've seen them so swollen from Ethanol you couldn't reinstall the needle even if you wanted too. This rubber tip failure allows an engine to fill up with gas after sitting long periods (over winter) if owner fails to shut its fuel line off and in many cases have bent/broke valves and even rods too when an owner simply started it up without checking oil level first. Ok' that said, generally speaking this damage happens on gravity fed engines not fuel pump designs but still yet' an old chitty swollen rubber tipped needle valve will create havoc like hard starting, rough running/idle issues etc..so regardless imho they should always be upgraded if your unsure if it has been switched out? Ethanol sucks, Grrrr!!

Thanx sir ........... I have a KOHLER 18.5 engine. Wont stay running as of 2 weeks ago. It will run as long as I dump fuel in carb directly,otherwise it dies.Occasionally i can struggle to keep it running if I screw with the choke about halfway. - I WAS looking to buy a replacement carb, but I have givin up finding one for the 18.5 engine., SO.........I will use this vid to try & clean up the one I have & HOPE it helps it & makes it stay running. TY ,goos tips.

hey crazy wheel horses...have a Kohler K241 on my John boy...cutting the grass on 2nd round and it went cough, spit, chugg....repeat...wouldn't stay full throttle had to back off to near idle...I shut it off, took off the carb and cleaned the main fuel needle valve good, took out both needle valves (high and idle) and cleaned those up. they didn't look too bad.took off the bowl. was sitting parallel to the carb body. gaskets all good. I used a small wire to fish it into the small holes in the throat of the carb where the butterfly for the throttle is. There are 2. They were definitely not open. I got one open with the wire coming out into the threaded hole where the idle needle goes. Question: where does the other one go?

Great vid man ! I have a ariens lawn mower with this carb and I can’t get it off the lawnmower because there’s a long piece connected to it going in the lawnmower. Would it be a bad idea to attempt this with the carb still on ?

Hi Many thanks for the brief refresher on carb maintenance. Had to do all that a few times over the years. I have a problem with a Kohler 301t on a Howard Gem rotavator ( I'm from the UK). Its an old machine. Doesn't owe me a penny BUT .... I used it in the spring to dig the veg patch and it was fine. Shortly after tried to do a bit more work and it wouldn't start - petrol pouring through the carb! shoved it in the garage. Well I've just tried to sort out the problem. Thought it would be a stuck jet or something. After a thorough clean it still didn't shut off the petrol. I've tried a new needle valve and valve seat - no joy. I must next check that float isn't sinking - but it looked good. My question..... The engine has a fuel pump to push up the petrol. Would you know if there is possibly some by pass valve in the pump that could be failing and causing the pump force in too much fuel. The petrol just pours out the carb and floods into the cylinder.Any advice would be welcomeThanks Pete

Do you have or can make a video on how to repair a worn throttle shaft? About 90% of these carburetors have a worn throttle shaft, which effects engine performance and longevity.

GREAT VIDEO FOR STARTERS. MAYBE SOMEONE ON HERE HAS RUN INTO THIS BEFORE. THERE IS A ORIFICE HOLE IF YOU ARE STARING AT THE FRONT OF THE CARBURETOR ON THE BOTTOM. I HAVE FUEL RUNNING OUT OF IT, I IMAGINE THAT ITS AN OVER FLOW HOLE MAYBE? NOT SURE. BUT THE TRACTOR RUNS SEEMS LIKE IT RUNS WAY TO RICH. EVERYTHING IS FACTORY SET FOR MY K181S ENGINE BUT I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MAY CAUSE IT TO DO THAT.

The word you're looking for is "parellel". Be sure the float is parallel with the body.

Good Video Travis...I just got a home made log splitter with a 18 HP Kohler but how can I tell exactly what engen it really is, as its running at full throttle it sounds like it idles down every 20 to 40 seconds but without loosing power, it sounds like it running out of gas but the tank is full.... but it just bothers me when i hear that in the background what do you think it is?? Good Video Travis. I have a Kohler K241AS with a Carter Carb. The pedestal has a small chunk out of it. What's the best way to fill the chip. It sucks air when I hit a bump in the yard, the tractor wants to stall, then picks back up after I'm level again. I've heard JB Weld works. Not sure on how that would let the bowl bolt back out when it sets hard. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Walbro carb & the Main jet does not screw in fromn the underside, it screws in at a 90 degree angle from the upper bowl area, meaning bowl does not need to come off to remove main needle valve.

I got a 1966 wheelhorse 1276 with two engines for $100. I would lime to rebuild the original engine but keep the other as a backup. Are parts easy to get such as 2 gasket sets, 2 carb kits, and a crank rod?

Hi I have this generator on board my 2001 Rinker 270 Fiesta Vee. It turns over but won't start. A mechanic looked at it today and told me the carbareutor is frozen but he's CHARGING 800.00 dollars just to remove the generator to get to the carb. Which one of us is crazy? PLEASE HELP!

In the Video you removed the needle valve First. ...yet in the description you said "ATTENTION Remove BOTH TOP jets before removing main jet in bottom of carb" this is confusing me.

Bought a china carb for my c120 wheelhorse and wont run to save your life. Was told to toss the cheap china crap and rebuild the original.
