Fridge cleaning life changing tip! Vacuum the fridge!!! Works SO well for all those crumbs and makes getting the shelves clean much more easily.

A teaspoon of baking soda in the rinse water removes external pesticides according to America's Test Kitchen.
@xoombug830
@xoombug830 9 месяцев назад
@sebeckley Baking soda has a surfactant effect that helps wash surfaces. It's effective at removing pesticides, but it's not a disinfectant. Baking soda is an alkaline compound that can break down delicate fruit and vegetable skins and surfaces after 12-15 minutes. Vinegar removes pesticides AND kills bacteria.

Aah, I now have a better way of storing some of my veggies by using my mesh veggie bags. I don't like leaving them in plastic. I generally don't prep them either. My husband and I are empty nesters and we both work as a team in the kitchen to get our meals ready. We also cook large portions of each meal for lunches and planned overs. Sometimes we freeze portions. Sometimes we just eat up the rest later in the week. Thanks for showing us your lovely and colorful refrigerator. I wish I had a French door fridge rather than my old side by side.

I find that I don’t use up celery very fast and find it starts to go limp so I run cool water into a large container, cut off a sliver of the root end then soak for an hour or so. The celery drinks up some of that water and becomes firm again.
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
Yes that's a great tip if your celery goes limp! 🤩 Works well for limp lettuce too.

I love your videos, meal prep and recipes. Why do you put your tomatoes in the refrigerator? I’ve always been told those should stay on the counter for optimum taste. Thank you Beth
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
Hi Beth! If they’re not quite ripe (still need to turn more red or soften) then I put them on the counter. But with these baby tomatoes I find that they are already perfectly ripe and they’ll actually last longer if stored in the fridge. Haven’t noticed a difference in taste! 😄

I usually ripen all my avocados on the counter first but then store them already ready in the fridge 😊 I never tried the other way around, I thought they wouldn’t ripen after fridge hmmm 🤔 😊
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
Heard some people like to do it that way! For me I don’t like to eat ripe avocados cold out of the fridge, so I’d rather they ripen on the counter. 😄 I think either way is fine!

How would you recommend storing beets?
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
If raw, I just store them in a reusable bag like the same kind as the apples. They last a long time uncooked! About a month! If cooked, I just store them in a tupperware and they should last about a week. 🤗

Do you use vinegar for greens too?
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
I used to! I haven’t done it consistently lately because I am buying more organic greens than before, but it’s definitely a good option if you want a little extra cleaner for your soaking water. 🤗

It's Tru Earth's multi surface cleaner! I love it! Kills 99% of mold, fungi, bacteria, etc. and all their packaging is plastic free. You can check it out here: www.tru.earth/? (From their menu on the left side, choose Shop All and then Kitchen and you'll see it there. 😊) You can also use the discount code: LETSEATPLANTS for 10% off!

Condiments don’t have expiration dates. Just kidding! No really I never look at ketchup that’s been there for a yr.🙃😆 And this video reminds me I have a bag of Whole Foods grapes (read:$$$) shoved to the back of my frig…probably have to toss them. Crap.

Helpful critique: You always calls the food storage containers "Tupperware" when I don't think I've ever seen you use a Tupperware product. Why not just call them "containers"? I know a lot of people get what you're saying, but I wonder if there's a population that's not getting you...?
@LetsEatPlants
@LetsEatPlants 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the suggestion! It seems to me that tupperware has become synonymous with “storage container” and honestly just rolls off the tongue more easily. (Much like how we use kleenex instead of facial tissue or xerox instead of copy.) I’ve also never had anyone tell me they’re confused by it! 🤗🤗

@@LetsEatPlants I totally hear you. It's funny because when I hear you say that, my first thought is: "I prefer glass to plastic!" ... and then I see you pull out a glass container and my brain is like whaaa - ?! ... and I realize you're just saying the brand. No big deal. I'm just not a fan of Tupperware anyway. ; p

I think you’re on to something with your comment. I would think a majority of her viewers prefer glass containers and have moved away from ‘Tupperware’ years ago. Good suggestion.
