Since I don't often have a couple of hours to watch the live streams, this shortened format is great. Hope you continue to do them.

Thanks for the double drilling tip. I didn't know that. Thats pretty awesome. If I were ever to come to your shop I would be real tempted to forever borrow it. 🙂

My pleasure Richard, I hope that trick comes in handy for you. LOL maybe I should rent out my shop, could be lucrative 😆

Really like this abridged version of the streams. I’d rather participate in the livestreams but had family in town last week. This was a great way to catch up.

I'm so glad to hear it! I know the full replays can be tough to fit into busy schedules, yet some folks do enjoy watching the full replays. I figured, let's do both! 😀 So far, I'm really enjoying the process of putting the two streams together to create something brand new. I'm hoping that they are also enjoyable for folks who were at the live streams too

It's awe-inspiring. I've never seen a project with pine cones come out so well! I disagree with no coating on it. Your shop may be different than my husband's, but oil and grease gets all over in his. But, you know your shop best. I wouldn't put a shiny coating on it either. Just something that protects the pinecones from absorbing water or any other fluid. You may have used sanding sealer. If you did, then I'm an idiot. It's almost 3 am. First time watching you. I'm gonna blame you for my lack of sleep. Cause now I've got to go look at your other videos. :) It looks great. I think it would be a great way to "fix" handles that routinely break. From the break on just create the end of the handle with resin.

Thanks so much Jessica! I'm glad you found my channel 🙌🙌I am sorry to have kept you up, but I am glad that you are enjoying the videos. You brought up some great points. I didn't apply a finish at all because I didn't want to have to fill the pin holes here and there in the pinecones. Sanding sealer or CA glue would have worked fine, and you could still knock back the gloss by sanding it down to 1000 grit. I may have to make another one sometime and compare the results. I'm not too worried about the pinecones taking on moisture since I live in a really arid climate, and I don't really work with any oils or grease. This is a bit of an experiment though, so we'll see how it holds up over time 😀

Nice. I didn't see much glitter when you were finished. Can you see it? maybe that the camera didn't pick it up. But it really looks nice. And it won't break on you.
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
I think it's pretty solid, but you never know over time and use. Yeah, the glitter pops more with a finish on top, that's one thing I didn't really think about going with the satin finish on it

In your opinion, could you use resin to make a wood turning handle?

Hi Zac, good video and I like the double drilling idea. Are the pinecones stabilized? Thanks. George
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
Thanks George, hope you can use that double drill trick sometime. It adds some time to the process, but it is definitely the sure fire way to get those threads hidden. No, I don't stabilize the mini pinecones, they don't really take up much water and turn fine without it. More trouble than it's worth usually

What kind of tools are you using on the risen to turn it down.im new to turning and just have traditional tools

I use Easy Wood Tools carbide with the negative rake cutters. Really does a wonderful job on resin blanks, no chipping at all. I was using the "Mini Finisher" in this video: www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/mini-easy-tools-ewt-easy-wood-tools?ref=nvww&variant=12864604242003 I think the mini finisher is a great tool to pick up if you are looking to dip your toes into carbide since it's so versatile. You will also want to pick up a negative rake cutter for it (they come with the standard cutters only) For the mini finisher, you want the "Ci3 negative rake" cutters: www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/easy-wood-tools-carbide-cutters?ref=nvww&variant=12864771850323

Hello Zac. Another great video. What type of resin did you use for the double drilling -- was that Alumilite clear slow as well or something different? Thank you Chris
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
Thanks Chris! I actually used Alumilite White for that since it's so fast, and I have it on hand, but you could use any resin you like
@Ronbo442
@Ronbo442 2 года назад
Zac. Were you worried about the glitter settling, or does the use of a vertical mold eliminate that issue?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
It can settle depending on the resin you use, the glitter you use, etc. In this case though, the glitter doesn't settle that bad in Alumilite Clear Slow (and Clear Slow sets up fast), and with all the pinecones in there, the glitter doesn't have too much room to move.

Hey my friend twice wow. I'm doing great buddy I'm doing great. I haven't been able to get in the shop all month. I have just been overwhelmed with work. I had a friend that had an electrical fire in his shop so I'm working on a video on that and and doing some fire prevention work. Check it out when you see it I highly highly recommend it. Should have it out soon. Always good to see you buddy. By the way every morning when I get up I look at your little cloth bowl turning. My wife loved it so much she took it from the shop and it's. Sitting on the island in my kitchen. I'm looking at it as we speak. Colorful little bowl. And she just loves it. Good to chat with you buddy from Doug

@@fleetswoodshop3339 That's so awesome!! I'm so glad you're enjoying that bowl, it was so fun to make! Sorry to hear about your friend's shop fire, hope the damage wasn't too bad. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the video. Hope you can get some shop time soon my friend!!
@fleetswoodshop3339
@fleetswoodshop3339 2 года назад
Yeah he had an electrical panel firing did a lot of smoke damage. And another guy who's on RU-vid called Spike he had a fire in his shop also because of an old oven he had in there that had built up with dust. That was kind of careless of him in my opinion. and yes I can't be more serious she's just in love with that little bowl .
