In this video I'm bringing you my first impressions of the Simpson Trafalgar T3 Synthetic Brush for the "New Member" Tag Video which highlights a new item in your shaving collection. Thanks to Melly Mel Shaves (bit.ly/2WjNZtS) for the tag!
This video is a bit looser, more relaxed than some of my others. In addition to the brush, my kids will make a guest appearance, I'll share a bit of a life update, and how our household loves video games and board games.

Thank you for comparing the color of your lather to a cappuccino. Looks like I had a similar lathering experiencing with 17.1 and my synthetic brush as you did. And great to meet those little visitors!!

Nice shave, Jon! I'm a little behind on vids. This Simpson brush has been on my radar for a few weeks. It was actually in my cart, but I've been limiting impulse buys and didn't pull the trigger. Your little surprise visitors added some light humor to the vid. With both your wife and yourself working from home, your kids are probably wondering where Daddy disappeared to when you went to record your shave. Take care! Cheers! -Rob

I had a shave yesterday with Spearhead's SassyJavaDog and it has such an amazing coffee scent. They make some decent soap for being experimental.

@@Latherhog Tim Shaves was kind enough to send me a huge sample of it. I went ahead and ordered the soap currently listed on Spearhead and can't wait to try it. The scent's are strong, but not overpowering. Have you tried the coffee one yet?

@@Johnny-Five I have not, the two I've made videos are the ones I own! I'm told the coffee scent is like diner coffee with cream and sugar, which is not really my preference, so I'll be passing on that one.

Kai blades are insanely good! That brush seems very nice! How is the backbone in your opinion versus something like a plissoft or plisson knot (I find those to be too soft).

Thanks Anthony, I'm going to put the Kai blades in my queue of things to use this week! Now keep in my mind I've only done the one shave, but I think given the added density, this knot has more backbone than the Plissofts.

Great video. I'm considering a T1. How is the scrub/backbone? Also, you're probably not conscious of this, but you give the right side of your face more brush time than your left.

Sterling Campbell The backbone is fantastic on this brush but I wouldn’t call it scrubby as the knot is quite soft. That’s a funny observation but very true, I work the lather on the right of my side much more 😂

As someone who face lathers and likes a brush with a decent amount of backbone and scruffiness, I was curious whether you think the Simpson Trafalgar T3 stands out among synthetics in this regard. I can see how it might given its density and short loft relative to its diameter. But, if I can ask you to make a direct comparison: Do you think the brush feels more like a two-band badger (e.g. a Chubby 2) than a three-band silvertip? By the way, it's nice to see you using the Masamune. And how good of you and Ruds to get the kids out of their mother's hair today by letting them into yours.

Thanks for watching! I'll be using the Simpson Trafalgar some more before giving a more complete review but from this first go, I would say it's closer to a two-band badger than a three-band as it has good backbone without being scrubby.

Hi Warren, This is a great brush! Plenty of backbone but the brush has soft tips so it doesn't make your face sore. I have compared it to best, super & silvertip badger. It has the backbone you need for any situation and soft tips for final brushing out. It is also a lot easier to maintain. Wash it, flick out the water and hang upside down and it dries really quickly compared to badger. I hope this helps. Dave.

Would you say this brush is significantly bigger than my current stirling soap brush which is 51mmx24mm? Im considering upgrading my brush but don’t want it to be super giant

The knot is larger and denser than the Stirling brush, but I wouldn’t call it super giant

The size and shape of the handle, and I believe the synthetic knot itself is different.

That said Italianbarber shows 28mm...i just purchased it right before watching your vid and believed it to be 28mm...my bad, sorry dude! I've emailed italianbarber to correct their website. thanks man...and thanks for all the awesome shave vids! I watch them all

@@Latherhog I just received an email from maggard's and they said measuring with a caliper the knots are averaging between 28.4 and 28.8 millimeters. They discussed advertising the not as what Simpson advertise it as a 26 mm but their measurements set otherwise and so they went with their measurements. I'm assuming that is 26 mm at the point where they applied the adhesive but coming out of the handle the knot is 28 if millimeters. I'll have to wait and see when I get it. I have some calipers that I'll be measuring it with.
