Also i find it funny how this game was marketed as a morrowind clone when the dialouge choices are literally Fallout 4 tier with yes, sarcastic yes, question, no
Why are people so sarcastic in this game? These games could at least use some system based on psychology like the 4 temperaments or Id, ego and Super ego. It would make choices more interesting.
to be fair morrowind did not have much of choices, most of the dialogue was wikipedia hotlink articles, it was the choice of joining one of the great houses that mostly made the choices in morrowind, i dont see how this is like morrowind, to me it looks like kings field, also in morrowind you could kill every character, in this game you cant, seems to me the "morrowind" part is just looking weird and alien, as the game does not look like morrowind at all, it looks like a psx game, morrowind was a pc game ported to xbox with all settings tuned down. Not a psx weird game with the eastern cycle of rebirth that this game is going for. I hate what bethesda has done to fallout, they took a franchise about choices and good characters and humans being tribal and turned it into a goofy repettive looter shooter crafting survival base building Minecraft clone.
But it does mean everyone is cringe. Tbh, this type of writing just seems like a way to mask your lack of ability to write characters with a personality, flaws, hopes, fears etc. But I suppose you need to have a personality first to begin with.

They literally don’t make games starring male characters anymore. Every indie game I see is also just another female protag, no matter what genre. It’s just ridiculous
Indie slop either has only female protags or a genderless human looking creature wich they make everything possible to never tell you if it's male or female exactly like Undertale.
YES! recently i saw a duke 3D inspired game on the steam store that interested me, but guess what, STRONG FEMALE PROTAG THAT TALKS LIKE A DUDE, SLAYYYYYYY
Borderlands had some decent gunplay but the dialogue and stories were so rough. Never liked it. They also always came out super buggy even though i was already giving the bad graphics a pass.
The lack of fantasy racism is so noticeable in games like Skyrim because they dont want to lock characters out of certain quests, but it has the effect of undermining your choice in races when nobody reacts to ensure its never offensive.
Dragon Age Origins did it in a really good way in that each race and origin gave you a unique perspective of the world that allowed your character to form their own worldviews
It was really jarring in Skyrim when you go to the racist town and you're an Imperial Dark Elf, and then everyone sells you goods, and not even with inflated prices.
@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer it literally removes roleplaying content from my game. How am I supposed to prove them wrong if everyone agrees with me the whole time?
Skyrim is especially frustrating cause there's an obvious way to have one's cake and eat it too with being the Dragonborn, Ulfric et al. can still be racist while being smart enough to know that having the dragonborn on their side is so much more important than their prejudices hence why it doesn't lock one out of their questline but instead it's purely fluff that only affects the automatons at the theme park. Even Oblivion at least had Countess Caro react with noticable disgust to me being Argonian in dialogue even if it didn't affect any questlines, Skyrim doesn't even do that.

@@Aurora-pi6jr That's what I've noticed. Movies and games are mere spectacles with no depth. No one reads anymore, let alone thinks critically about a story
@@SonofTiamat It's the "reference spiral". Best works get written on the basis of real life, Tolkien studying cultures and mythologies, inventing a whole new language for his books. Then newer work skip a step and instead get influenced by other books, then by the books referenced by other books etc. etc. And so the cycle starts (from Tolkien we went to the generic fantasy setting). Currently we are at the phase where most of the writing for modern videogames has a major part of its core rooted in popular media. Videogames from at most 10-15 years ago, books read in highschool and pop culture movies (including... marvel movies). Any research is surface leveled, inspiration bland and watered down through countless reinterpratation of the original ideas and no actual helpful criticism to help improve the writing since the consumer majority also suffers from the same issue and is unable to produce helpful advice for the work, instead only feeding into the echochamber.

Yeah the quirky "nihilism amirite? XD" "OMG so quirky" and "LOVE IS LOVE" type writing is so oversaturated these days. Also picked up Pacific Drive because it looked like a cool car game and immediately its two bumbling norwood 5s and an old boss bish blabbing reddit nonsense and insults in your ear. Haven't gone back to it. It's a shame because a lot of these indie devs are pretty good systems programmers but they all have the same ideology in their heads regarding narrative. Also they all think they're the first one to write DEI narratives and standing up for the little guy when its been over half a decade of the same recycled social score narrative points.
They don't have any ideology per se that they reasoned into. The nerd kind just goes with whatever thing will protect them in the court of public opinion or make them appear nice, cause they're otherwise not very interesting and also susceptible to persecution so its just a defence mechanism. Tribal stuff.
The biggest problem with indie games is that a lot of them are trying to be like AAA games, completely missing the point of why people play indie games in the first place which is because they're tired of AAA slop and instead of trying to capitalize on the market they try to be the very thing people are trying to avoid.
Not only that but their concepts are copy-pasted from older games (and not improved either) , lack any creativity to make games that are actually more serious and is more setting-driven instead being only chararcter-driven and being not inspired by classic games but maybe by obscure and underrated games that actually were ahead of their time. Indie-games itsself have way too much stinkers there that arent worth to pick it up.
@@Snyperwolf91 It has many stinkers, but the ones that are good, are really good. I mean, Mortal Sin, Prodeus, Risk of Rain 2, Valheim, Turbo Overkill, Gunfire Reborn, Wizard of Legend, Mullet Mad Jack. All of these are good indie games, none of them woke and all of these focus on gameplay first and foremost, the way it should be.
@@TearThatRedFlagDown They aren't "really good", just good. I like Prodeus and Gunfire Reborn is cool, and Mullet Mad Jack is a nice masculine game, but none of them do better what the classics already achieved. For instance, a lot of Mullet Mad Jack borrows a lot from MadWorld, but it does neither the style, nor the violence, nor the themes better than MadWorld. And Prodeus is an obvious nod to Doom and Quake, fused into one. The levels are asbtract and confusingly complex like the 90s Doom games, and the graphics are obviously better than the original Quake trilogy, and the shooting is satisfying, but it doesn't actually do anything better than Doom or Quake did. It lacks the horror vibes of the Doom games and lacks the originality in concept, levels, and weapons of Quake. In fact, all of the guns are just retreads of guns we've all used before. And before anyone says "But it's an FPS game and they're limited" no, they are not limited. Go look at the original Halo trilogy, or Perfect Dark, or the original Ratchet & Clank games or even stuff like Corridor 7, Chex Quest, Blake Stone; a lot of the classics had tons of unique and outrageous weapons, stuff we just do not get these days. Supplice is the exact same way -- just a retread of Doom except you play as a stronk black VVoman. BPM: Bullet Per Minute is definitely a unique one, and sort of veers away from just being a modern retread of an old classic. So I have to give it some points for that, but the weapon selection is still pretty basic. It's like a lot of people -- especially indies -- who make games forget that there are no limitations in creativity when it comes to artistic design and functionality. Gone are the goop guns from Unreal Tournament or the stake-revolver from Painkiller or the gravity gun from Half-Life 2. But you're right that at least the indie games that are good are at least enjoyable. I just wish they were as inventive or creative as games from the 1990s, like Meat Puppet or Messiah or Sanatarium.
@@Billy-bc8pk I don't necessarily look for innovation though, all that a game needs in order to be good for me is to be fun. Though these days it also has to not be woke. But it's true that I would like to see some more interesting weapons in indie fps games. Tbh I thought it would be cool if you had some type of time based gun, where instead of reloading you can pull the bullets that you fired back into your mag by reversing time on them, so they damage everything on their path on their way back. Or maybe it fires spears or something, so you an stick enemies to walls with it lol. What I also really wanna see in fps games is dismemberment systems. I was intrigued when I first saw the trailer, and lost interest with how ugly and drab it looks. Doesn’t have to be super colourful, but super powers _are_ fantastical. Make it look interesting. There’s so many games with similar enough gameplay, that if the art isn’t appealing, I’m just not gonna bother. I don’t want to look at something ugly for hours. Speaking of superhero XCOM-like games… have you played Marvel’s Midnight Suns? It’s awesome! Tons of fighters with a variety of abilities, some light “dating” (friendship) sim aspects, and characters are authentic. I sunk way too much time into it. Get the Legendary edition with all the DLC. It’s cheaper now, and you’ll _definitely_ want to at least play Venom early on. Mainly because there’s basically no post-game (outside NG+ and DLC missions). Wish we got Hulk earlier. He is beefy, but you get him like 3 missions before the game is over. I basically played a bunch of random missions just to have fun with him.

“But indies” was always a poor argument. It doesn’t fix lamenting big AAA games being junk when they weren’t so much before. It’s like saying “stop complaining your house was destroyed, you can live in this apartment”. Two very different things.
AAA only goes after what makes the most money. If good games made the most money, vast majority of AAA would be good (exactly what happened for PS1 / PS2 / early PS3). If a good indie game suddenly becomes the top seller, then it gives an incentive for AAA games to copy it but with more budget. Indies can't fix everything, but they can give some hope to improve the industry. The real problem is not some indies being bad, it's how people spend their money, something nothing can really fix.
I've been saying this for a long time that indie games are even more woke than AAA games. Also gameplaywise alot of them are inferior to games from the 80's an 90's
I've kept seeing this take here. There is a thing about the 90's: making games was hard and selling them was even more difficult than that. It isn't that there were no bad games back then. It's just that the studios that published games that people actually enjoyed had made a name for themselves, which lead to greater expectations and thus more quality control. There are YT channells like Matt MacMuscles who made a living reviewing bad games from that era. Now that making games is easy and the budget can be crowdfunded, everyone can make themselves seen. While I'm glad that the tripple A studios aren't gatekeepers of quality anymore (Imagine how it would be if they still were. Wokeness would truly be inescapable.) and I'm thankfull for all the hidden and not-so-hidden gems that I and mony others enjoy, it also led to a wave of people who think of themselves as "dominant creatures" just because they made something interactive. It's not like Sturgeon's Law wasn't in effect, it's just survivorship bias.

Although the video is all over the place, I can see the point. TL;DR: the game's story is a ritual of trying to convince you that what the devs want you to do is the correct thing, which in a way is propaganda and only works if you can't think for yourself. Dread Delusion is a perfect example of pushing (as in forcing) a change in perspective. The game's story/world feels like an allegory for the developers' sociopolitical views. They can't take their advertised theme seriously and instead manipulate it to make you believe their viewpoint. While storytelling often involves some level of persuasion, overdoing it breaks immersion and any connection to the game's world. Sincerity is dead not only because writers can't take themes seriously, they also have to lie or mask what their intentions are.
Fantasy racism is rather crucial in a fantasy world. Why? Well, let's break down what racism is. It's hatred for another one's race? But why hate? Hate doesn't come from nowhere, there's always a core reason why hate exists. In a fantasy setting, racism comes from the differences in culture each race have. The fact there is no incompatibility amongst races, means that they are homogenous culturally and that in the end they're all just humams... Kinda like D&D's upcoming 6th Edition. There will be no interactions, there will be no conflict, there will be no moments that make you go "oh, yeah I never thought of that" because no thought needs to be made for everyone is the same. Now, you COULD make a post-racist fantasy setting but the most important part is you need to think of HOW and WHY as well as explain it and show the changes needed and done in the past. And that takes more effort than just saying "racism is no more" and singing kumbaya in a circle. TL;DR Fantasy racism is crucial because it is the biggest sign that the races in your fantasy settings have different culture, principals, morals, values, etc. and that might always not be compatible with each other races.
No, not really. Fantasy racism can be a great assett, but not a necesity, you can use other stuff like fantasy political conflict, different idiologies collapsing, crisis and struggles in the world that need to be solve in one way or another
@@e-tean-son4146 yeah but... You could just do that with all humans and differing opinions. What races is suppose to offer is total different cultural way of living. Trying so hard to dethroned a 20+ year franchise they end up looking worse and closing for their lack of self awareness

Demoralisation and control, mostly. However, I think this will backfire greatly. The death of gaming is a part of the inevitable process, that needs to take place. It's pro-judaic, which is about right for Catholics and the Vatican for the last 1000 years since Court Factors took it over. Catholics simply love being called Gentiles and being lorded over by Atheistic desert dwelling blood magicians who think you can fool the Omnipotent Universal Will with a Chicken, some blood, and some magic words. The church is NOT the Christ.
The 'sincerity is dead' is spot on, it's sad how basically there is no real dialogue in games anymore, just reddit tier/Deadpool/Meta humor style of writing.
In the past gaming was more about immersing the player into a new world and giving them the experience of being a different person. Now, it's the other way around, where the characters are supposed to act and speak just like modern gamers, even in situations where it makes no sense. When I kill a zombie I might say something like "boom, headshot" to my friends, but I don't think that's what my character's perspective should necessarily be. My character should be reacting more like how I'd react if I saw a walking corpse in real life. Terror, disgust, and guilt at being forced to kill something that used to be the same species as me. I also get real sick of 4th wall breaks, meta humor, and "lampshading," like when characters can't believe how silly or cliche something is. First of all, like I said before, that's not a believable way for the character to react, and second, being self aware about the stupid game you made doesn't actually prevent the game from being stupid or give me back the time and money I wasted on it. I don't wanna be too hard on this game in particular though, since being silly sort of makes sense in a low budget indie project, but what I really hate is when AAA games and big budget movies try to operate the same way. I also don't think it's always a bad idea for games to relate to politics or real life, but I do think it's unimaginative for the political concerns to directly copy all the opinions of the developers/audience. Like, I don't wanna see a guy 200 years in the future talking about how he wishes the government would cancel his student loans simply because someone who worked on the game wanted his own student loans canceled. The political views should make sense within the context of the fictional world and from the psychological perspective of the individual character who holds them.
If I had the patience to learn programming, I would make my own games. I have some good ideas and I can trust myself to not inject politics into it. Problem is that, unlike Leftists, I'm not a 1%-er and thus don't have the backing of multi-billion dollar companies.
Yeah I'm the opposite. I have no problems learning to code, but the artwork is my weakness. Slowly learning it though. I'm sick of complaining I want to make my own now.
The coding is really easy now. Well you don't even have to code. The big engines will let you use schematics instead, which is a visual form of the code, presented like an electrical circuit, instead of having a 70,000 line text document open in notepad++
Heads up Synth, Selaco and Mullet Man Jack both have pro trans lgbt shit in there game, Mullet man has a Trans pill and reddit "story" of ur character Offing Billionaires but u working for anime "twitch". and Selaco has a bunch of trans flags n reddit humor posters and some posters of characters of soyantests streaght out of validate and "they" (yes im pretty sure its a they/them) went on some forum claiming that "oh i dont wana push any sort of ideolog" but there profile pic literilty has a rainbow flag and posts "happy pride month" n trans flags n shit all over there twitter. so theres that if u ever play those 2 games.
so the games ending is literily the main character dying then the dev/villan monologing that "oh nothing really matters were all going to die anyway better consume product retard"
So true. D&D does not feel the same if you can play a literal demon's spawn and nobody bats an eye about you looking like a hellspawn. Or you know, being an Orc or a Drow. It made it a challenge to play these races, having to deal with discrimination. Dragon Age Origins, or Arcanum was great because no matter what race you chose, people reacted differently to you. Play a Half-Orc and everyone treats you like a second class servant. Play a Half-Ogre and most people treat you like a moron, but are also very careful not to anger the 2.5 meters tall giant.
Hey synthetic can you talk about how a lot of indie games heck alot of boomer shooters are only having female protag or vague protag where they dont tell the gender?
Morrowind: Guy clones himself, creating multiple female versions of himself just to fuck himself for shits and giggles. Dread Delusion: Daughter turns trans with magic. Yeah, I can definitely see the similarities.
Correction: guy clones himself, creating multiple female versions of himself to cook and clean for him whilst he explores literal hell and plays pokemon using people infected with a literal divine disease. -God- Azura bless Divayth Fyr.
My personal idea for fantasy racism is the elves being feared and hated by the other peoples due of legends about the elves being cannibals. Legends that happens true because the elves were created as apex predators/super soldiers by ancient beings that were basically gods.
15:57-17:05 this. Concepts of "your side" and "others" are hard-wired into self-aware beings, i.e. humans. It's delusional to believe you could just leave that out and expect people to still relate to your story.
Also kind of hypocritical, considering that many of the kind of people who write such stories see everyone who thinks differently from them as "far right", as in "evil".
