So, this is a cover from a play called Dear Evan Hansen. The play is about a young man with social anxiety disorder. Amazing song in its own right, but this is an AMAZING arrangement
Re: your discussion about whose voice is best for this: If you listen to the original, as sung by the cast of Dear Evan Hansen, you’ll immediately see why Scott took the lead on this piece. He’s right in the sweet spot for the stage role. They all killed it, obviously, but I think I’m most impressed with Matt’s range on this one. He’s so solid in the bottom end and then hops right up to blend in with Mitch and Kirstie when the music lightens up. Tip of the hat to him; that was amazing.
lachimiste1 absolutely, yes! When you said, Marco & Ali, that you’ve probably forgotten something; you forgot Matt!!! He and Kevin once again held a solid steady foundation for this song! You kinda forget that they are solidly underpinning this group. And their respective ranges are sometimes overlooked, I’m glad that you noticed that it was Kevin doing the piano note at the beginning - Matt was holding what would have been Scott’s role in the harmony (instrumental), before both bursting and expanding the body of the sound! Matt in this was both understated, yet powerfully rich, resonant and strong. He quietly rocked! 🤗
I absolutely loved the arrangement, and yes the different ranges just keeps things interesting, but from the jump I loved Scott's voice in this - the growl, the falsetto, that key change!!!! Watched it so many times already.
Like people have said, this is from a Broadway musical called Dear Evan Hansen. The person who originally sings this song is Ben Platt, who is very talented. His performance of the song "For Forever" from the same show on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is a fantastic song to listen to as well as react to.
💥Sorry to burst your PTX bubble..but this is from a musical..Personally this is the first time I hear it..but like everything PTX touches TURNS TO GOLD!💛..This could easily be a PTX original THEY ARE ALL AMAZING.."But when my baby Scott sings, It gives me the feels!!" 💗
I wish it was an original. It's funny how you picked up on the theatricality! The musical is very pop-y, it was written by the same guys that wrote The Greatest Showman and La La Land. I saw it on Broadway with Ben Platt and the show is AMAZING! PTX still killed it though.
Like so many people said, this is from Dear Evan Hansen. The music for that musical was written by the same team who wrote the music for The Greatest Showman.
This was the opening song in the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen. PTX mentioned this being a cover on Twitter but for some reason, did not include that detail in their RU-vid video description. Song is written by the same duo, Pasek & Paul, who wrote the songs for The Greatest Showman, the lyrics to the songs in La La Land (music was composed by someone else) and the original song Running Home To You from the musical episode of The Flash. You should react to songs/videos from the original album of Ben Platt, the singer/actor who won the lead actor Tony Award for his role in Dear Evan Hansen.
💥💥Guys!! Please react to The Promise by Superfruit, Otherside by Avi Kaplan and Evolution of Ariana Grande from PENTATONIX🙏🙏🙏🙏....🌟And YES I agree Scott's vocal range is impressive!!..I've known it since The Sing Off🌟 HEY PTX does have a NEW Original song called "Happy Now" They are singing it on their tour!!! IT SOUNDS AMAZING!!!💥
I love their take on this song. This was a Scott song for sure. They always say they use people where they belong. I don't know if it would work if every time they only had one lead singer, because then it'd be a group with one lead singer and two back-up singers. But this was absolutely a Scott song! Now, in their "Evolution of Ariana Grande" it turned out, surprisingly, that Mitch has a voice that is so close to hers in style it fits when he is singing, even though Kirstin could hit the notes and sounded beautiful and Scott sounded so good, when Mitch sings magic happens. You should give it a listen! They are on the first leg of their World Tour 2019 and they are playing huge venues, and filling the seats! They have the most amazing set list, stage and show! They are singing an original on tour, "Happy", and I love it so much! And as good as THIS cover is, I can't get Happy out of my head. I wish they'd release it as an official video. The stage for "Come Along" is like something out of Alice in Wonderland! oh my word! They have a huge screen behind the group that shows a hillside of giant mushrooms the color of an acid trip. Psychedelic, and moving gently as if there's a breeze and its a live shot. Then life sized images of the members of PTX appear on the screen behind the appropriate member splitting into 2 people, then coming together again with little stationary, odd, dance moves. At one point they're marching on the screen.. with the mushroom field scrolling so it looks as if on-screen ptx is marching through the field.. not in place, like the real ptx is. It's such an amazing creative experience I think it should be nominated for a Grammy as well as released as an Official Video. It's crazy! Mitch calls it "Creepy". 😂 good to hear from you two! PTX is so pouring out content prolifically lately, so this was a long comment! I wanted to fill you in. 💕💜
LOL...I seriously thought it was their own song too...then I listened to the original BUT, you're right...it's theirs...PTX ALWAYS makes covers their own and better! I LOVED your faces around the 2 minute mark when Scott went into his falsetto. Glad you reacted to them. I know you do a lot of videos but just remember that there is still a lot of older content they have. And I do know you've reacted to a lot of them but I love when you react to them...it makes my day :)
I don't think I ever clicked on a video this fast :D. I love your reactions. I had to laugh when they released this, because lately this blasphemous thought entered my mind that Scott might be neglecting his higher register since he's probably been focusing on his bass (judging from their latest covers). It was because I saw a live performance where he seemed to be struggling with the higher part. But I guess he was either sick or it just wasn't his day or something. Obviously, this isn't live, but PTX don't have a habit of doing things in their recordings that they can't do live, so... Anyway, I'm not doubting Scott ever again. I've learned :D. The mix he did in the high part at the end was smooth af. As people already pointed out, this is not an original. They have sung a new original song called Happy Now on tour however and it sounds really good. I can't wait for the album! I hope you guys react to The Evolution of Ariana Grande. Brace yourself, you might not survive it, but it will be worth it :D.
they leave one breathless, don't they? Each of their voices are beautiful on their own but when they combine them, well, I want to go peep through the window. Feeling creepy, now. (but giggly)
Loved your reaction - so many great things you pointed out. Missed you recently, but I think you said you were working on other projects. Looking forward to more PTX reactions! They are coming to Europe soon - hope you get to see them.
Its already written, its called "Dear Evan Hanson" the nerdy character from the first pitch perfect cowrote it and starred in its first broadway run (and won Tonys for it). All of the music from it is fantastic, its on spotify.
I love this song so much that I've listened to most of the covers on youtube, and this is the best cover by far. I hope you guys get a chance to hear the original performed by Ben Platt at the Tony Awards. I have social anxiety and the lyrics and the way he performed this on stage is almost exactly how I feel everyday of my life. Never thought in a million years that someone would write a musical and actually understand what this condition is like. Also, the same guys who wrote the songs for "The Greatest Showman" wrote the songs for the musical "Dear Evan Hanson."
Sorry, It's not theirs, but you hit it the nail on the head, it is from a musical called "Dear Evan Hansen". Never saw the play, but loved the song. If you really want to be blown away, watch their Evolution of Ariana Grande, you guys totally skipped that one. It's a must see. I recognized more songs than I thought I actually knew. MUST SEE!!
In one of the PTXperience episodes it shows them filming this and another MV- Shallow I think- WHILST they were ON TOUR. Scott said he fought for this because the subject means so much to him, he really identifies with the character
each one shines in their own way. example: Matthew is almost robotic in his movements. And Alie. . . . I saw your gasp at the bridge (?) of the song. we were in stereo, my friend! I took that jump with you.
Ali hit it! They are their own genre. Their own league. Their own f'n sport! I remember watching them on that singing show, the one with the 3 judges. The white judge had said that surprises were hard to come by in the musical world. Every time I watch Pentatonix they manage to give me a (pardon) swift kick right in the hoo-ha! They surprise me with their Genius every time. And Ali, (I really want this to come out right) I particularly enjoyed your reaction this time.(see what I mean. I enjoy it every time.) Usually you're the calm one and Marco is the wound up one. Ali !!? I actually heard you swear! Bravo, my friend. Bravo. I absolutely have to say, Matt murdered it. Had my doubts (& attitude) about him at first. ( Being in love with Avrielle, you know.) Butt, WOW!!!! How many times in life will we see and hear such a talented group of people? The finger of God, my Good Sirs, brought these people together for our enjoyment. And I say WE SHOULD HORDE THEM!!!!?! Listen, Matthew is NO Avrielle. Listen again, Avrielle is NO Matthew. And now. . . . . I'm in love with them both. And you zwei, as well. Thank you, again.
kelli wichita yes, you’re correct. On everything. Matt is amazing in this! The TV show was The Sing Off! The judge who made that comment was Ben Folds, he mage it after they sang Dog Days (and this rendition reminded me strongly of that rendition, even though in theory they are different genres).
I hope you react to Ben Platt the lead for the Broadway musical Dear Evan Haden. Not just his version of this song but anything he’s done recently. He is amazing! His voice will make you weep.
Yeess please keep reacting to more Pentatonix!! Evolution of Ariana Grande would be so great if you haven't already! I really love your reactions every time!!
as other people are saying this isn’t an original, it’s a cover from the musical Dear Evan Hansen! if you’re wanting to hear a new original though you should search for concert videos of “Happy Now” their new original they’ve been performing on tour :)
This performance is absolutely incredible, as usual. This is from a musical called ‘Dear Evan Hansen’. You must listen to the original performance of this song by the original cast. It’s awesome. I think you’ll love it. Ben Platt originally sang this song in the play. His voice/performance is beautiful.
You guys ABSOLUTELY need to listen to Ben Platt sing this and also his original song “ease my mind”. Marco, get ready to be obsessed like you are with Scott, ben is amazing
PTX have debuted a new original song on tour called Happy Now, it’s so good! There are some recordings posted on here if you want to check it out. New original album this year sometime!!!!!!
@@caroleceres I generally agree, but Kirstie and Matt DO contribute a lot. They all sit in a circle and rough out the basic outline after which, Ben gets involved. I'm going to see Pentatonix at the Tacoma Dome July 3rd! I've got my VIP ticket purchased. I'm hand-delivering a Christmas song I wrote for them five years ago, but I have never found a way to get it to them. I am a published, American Prize winning composer and I work with a renowned lyricist in the jazz world. She and I have thus far written eight songs together. Anyway, when my close friend of 58 years, renowned studio drummer, Jim Keltner, tried but was unsuccessful in getting the piece to PTX, I knew this was my only chance. There are no restrictions, or obligations for PTX to perform or record the piece; I wrote it out of love for these sweet, humble, caring artists. Of course, I'd be blown away if they did something with it, but all I ask is they listen to it and drop me a line!
I wish they would have heard the original. Don’t get me wrong, PTX killed it, but Ben Platt and the rest of the cast did a phenomenal job in the original (in MY opinion, I like it more)
Are you going to do any more Home Free music such as their new release Dive Bar Saint which is an original and and their last song Why Doe it have to be (Right from Wrong )
Please REACT to Angelina Jordan. She won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs. old. She is amazing! I Put A Spell on You and I'm Feeling Good . Everything she sings is magic.
Listen, I hope I never have to go without earbuds or headphones again in my life. (Cat ate them) I thought I would listen to this song and I would enjoy it. What B. S. Dis- f'n- appointment! Ran right out and got 3 pairs of earbuds. Re- listened to video and BOOM- SHOCK-A-LOCKA Ear Orgasm
