Ordered this guitar "blind", without testing it last year from Thomann Germany. It's the See Throu Red color and I do have a sweet spot for red semi-hollow guitars. This guitar changed my perception of quality and craftsmanship at a price that normal people like us can afford. It needed a good setup to finally come alive. I play this guitar every day now and honestly would not trade it for an Epi 335 that has original Gibson pickups. This guitar just has it all, but not the heritage and the premium pricetag. Love from Austria, Cheers mate. PS: love your delay and reverb.

Thank you so much, yeah I agree this guitar has changed my thoughts as well. I just had to give it a good setup as well and now it just plays like butter.

using so much effects at the beginning of your review ... you can also take any kind of cheesy guitar ... an it will sound great...the real tone is only to invent, when the amp is clear or pushed up with a little bit of overdrive....in my op.

Listen to his solo on Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan and you'll understand why Larry Carlton has got his own 335 signature. 👍

No cheap Chinese pots - some channels like Guitaristas have taken out the electronics on Sires and found them to be good quality. Thanks for the video! I got the T7 and am itching to get the H7.

Hey bro thanks for making a video showing the H7 to play Rock & Worship. I'm waiting to buy one but all the videos were aimed at Jazz. Thanks bro 👊🏽 What are the pickups you mentioned in minute 12?

In spite of having a Gibson les Paul standard -77 and an American strat this sire has become my favorite ❤️maybe I will have the truss rod adjusted to lower the string action but the rest is 👍

I have one of these, cherry see-through, had it about a year. Build, fit-and-finish, parts - all as our friend says - top notch. Not much to think about but the bone nut needs attention as part of a set up. It's completely wrong and if you want to know why, just look at any Gibson with the bridge/stoptail type set up. Any decent set-up guy should spot that straight away but at this money a set up shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Great guitar! It comes with no case or bag so...if you're going to play out, you'll need to take care of that. Everything else is just great. Someone in comments mentioned putting on locking tuners - if you like but there's no need, they're excellent. Sounds....our friend here has no clue what a clean sound is....at all. You can't tell much from this - especially if you're listening through desk-top 'dooter speakers. The reality is this guitar is very bright, very clear with excellent and varied tones. There's not many styles you can't play on this. This brightness rolls off easily with the controls to give a range of more "classic" PAF style rock/blues tones and it works well with refined gain or pedals for solos. Not quite so at home with playing rock rhythm/power chords though. Our chap has very thoughtfully demmed the v and ts and they are quality. The v pots have an extra capacitor for a fifties/Memphis style treble bleed which can fool you into thinking the guitar is too bright until you figure this out and use the tone controls. It could easily drive you to a p/up swap with no need for it - the classic fat-PAF is found a little way down the tone range. It will repay a good amp rather than the "bedroom warrior" type set up but when playing through a little "filth" this doesn't roll off particularly well so - that's a stompbox job....easy enough. I think the p/ups have strong alnicos and putting in "2"s might change that a bit....dunno. As it happens, I also have a Gibson re-issue vos '61 es335. That's the neck that the H7 is modelled on. To put them side by side is quite orgasmic - the Sire is handsome as heck. Very playable too but soundwise - not even close. I've no idea why but using a pedalboard with the 335 is just a loser - the core sounds are many and fabulous. At the prices, this isn't exactly "apples to apples" - the Gibson is a top of the range mucho-dollar job. It's also a personal view, I have the luxury and leisure to A/B these cousins in depth. The es335 is known as a very versatile guitar and this is certainly true. The Gibson has a "voice" throughout its range, it has better string separation and definition throughout, it's more responsive to the use of the pick and I'd guess that the p/ups are a step up. From a single amp setting, it's easy to dial up many sounds from the deck of the guitar because it cleans up from pushing the amp extremely well. As for saying it has a "voice", that's hard to put into just a few words because it is a versatile guitar. It just sounds GREAT. To put my finger on it, the p/ups and perhaps the controls are a different league and the very-similar necks - the Gibson too is the better but it took me months to notice - nothing in it really. The Sire H7 is a fantastic guitar, pro-useable, beautiful. Perfect for the gig where there's no stage so punters are boogying nearby, drinks in hand and - not where you want to have your mucho-dollars choice Gibson. To be able to have such a good guitar at sensible money is a terrific thing, worth a setup, worth a case, you could still have this when you collect your bus pass and you're playing jazz at old age pensioner's tea dances - having done everything else in the meantime. High-grade musical instrument in no way compromised by its price tag, good country, jazz, rock, blues, pop sounds and you'll look good doing it although it isn't that "last word high-end" in the way it sounds or plays from the plectrum hand. It means you have time. If you want to upgrade it's probably worthwhile - you still arrive quids in from buying a super-pricey Gibson and you'd get a superb guitar - no doubt about that.

Hello. Are you happy with the pickups? Would be better putting in Gibsons or Seymour Duncans to have richer sounds?

Don't know who Larry Carlton is? Pretty funny. There is definitely an age gap. He played with Steely Dan. Jazz guitarist, session artist. Pretty influential to a lot of guitarist. I think Shawn Tubbs mentioned him as an influence during a recent interview on That Pedal Show RU-vid channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xXmBKL3pQD8.html Great video and playing.

I'm debating to either get the sire h7 or D'Angelico premier DC mostly these two because of the neck profile, their great hh semi hollow for people with small hands

Honestly you probably couldn’t go wrong with either one. I’ve never played a D’Angelico but I’ve heard they play great and that one you mentioned looks killer! I am loving the h7 right now I can’t stop playing it. It just plays so good.

Could use some advice. Am more or less torn between an Ibanez AS93, the Sire H7 and a Squier Classic Vibe Starcaster. The thing is, I am a tall guy with huge hands and long fingers. (not thick fingers though) Would the neck of the Sire be to thin? All the specs are great but the neck profile might be wrong. Modern C or D are normally preferred by me.
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Год назад
Hey thanks for watching! I too am a tall guy 6’4” actually and I have abnormally long fingers. I find the the h7 to be super comfortable. I have played the classic vibe star caster and really like how it felt as well. I cannot remember how they compared but I like them both. My hands arent huge I would say though. If you can go to a guitar store and play a few Gretch guitars it’s honestly feels close to that, it reminds me a lot of my Gretsch broadkaster which might be why I like it so much.

@@lightfootfx Found a mind D’Angelico Premier DC stairstep in White, for less than half the normal price. This guitar is unbelievable. It is in brand new condition. Sound and playability is superb. Glad I did not go for the Sire. The D’Angelico fits my hand just perfect.

@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Год назад
Hey thanks for watching! Well it depends what your after. If you want a traditional PAF sound like a vintage Gibson I would recommend the lindy fralin PAF’s. If you want a really open humbucker that responds more like a single coil and doesn’t get muddy check out the lambertones Crema humbucker set it’s killer.

I don't believe this is the version with the 40mm nut width. The earlier versions had a nut width that wide. The later versions have the "standard" Gibson size of 1.69 in or about 43mm. I tried the old version and couldn't get on with it. This version feels fine to me.
@jwuonog

Does it stay in tune well?
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Год назад
I think it stays in tune as well as a typical Gibson 335, aka usually the g string has to be tuned slightly every other song I’m a heavy handed strummer as well so that may play into it.

WHY review something with so many effects? It doesn't help show anything this guitar really has - I could make a nasty Magnum or an entry level Fender Affinity sound good through a ton of effects...

I might just be that one guy who is suspicious of white guitars and players who cast alluring glances at me as they hit high notes. Probably just me. But the Sire H7 is easily as good as a Gibson 335. I have a dot neck 1961 and the Sire stands up right next to it, for a fraction of the price. And you can drive it like you stole it and look all sexy for 700 bucks.
