I'm 32, in law school studying LLM tax law, never married and have no children. A few years back, my younger brother was suffering from depression because most of his friends were getting married and starting families. Then in a divorce you get raped up the ass financially because the court system is so corrupt and one sided it isn't funny......I think I'll stay single thank you very much.

Today's my 57th birthday!!! Recently retired with FULL pension, never married, no kids/grandkids, driving my RV across the country. Leaving for Montréal next week and headed for Munich for Oktoberfest in a couple months! I love females, I really do - they are my 'sexual preference'. Hit the nail on the head! As a 40y/o male, well educated, established, no children, six figure income, and takes care of himself. I often find myself being considered a catch by my female friends. Problem is, I've only found the women to reduce my quality of life. I recently had a female friend I’ve known for years ask me why I’m not married or even dating. Truth be known, the women I meet just aren’t worth the effort.

I made that fatal mistake in getting married. My first marriage, her second. She got the house and kids off her first hubby after the divorce and she always belittled the kid's father in front of them. This should have been a major wake-up call for me, but I loved her deeply. After we married she confessed to cheating on her first husband, who is a good hard working guy. That was it then, I distanced myself from her and next argument I blurted it out that I wouldn't have married her if I knew she had cheated on her first husband, because people don't change. Not long after that she started an affair. Suprise surprise. We are now separated and I have far more money, social freedom and three cars. Whilst she is now struggling financially to support her two adult sons and she drinks heavily. Two words come to mind. Loser. Karma.

Your wages are stripped to pay for children that are no longer yours. If the ex-wife hates you enough she can use the court system in all sorts of ways to turn your life into a living hell. You have no say, if the woman wants to get a divorce there is nothing you can do to stop and get demolished.

When I was in law school in the 80's I had moved from Florida to Boston to go to school. I remember having a feminist professor who taught the class that statistically men come out far ahead financially in divorce over women. If I recall she said men come out 20 percent wealthier. Ha! She honestly believed that. Seeing such an angry woman was a culture shock for me coming from Florida. Believe it or not, she was married to a MAN (It was the 80's however) I later divorced in my early 40s and it took me years to have anything. I left with nothing. Gave her the house, her 401K. My choice, so I can't complain but I did struggle for years. Both of my sons are now married. Neither wife cooks at all. One is home all day with the children and after my son has worked all day they go out to eat basically every night because, after all, she has taken care of the kids all day. I am a divorce lawyer and I can tell you that the young men who do get married who are in my office complain that they are expected to do everything but they are not allowed to have any expectations of their wives. Women today absolutely do not cook-none of them- and if you are really lucky the MIGHT clean. One positive note which is a result of the cultural changes is that most men are very involved with their children, even when born out of wedlock. OF course there is no shortage of women who try to run them off so they can be the single mother with the deadbeat dad. Its funny within certain nameless communities women actually seem to want that particular status. Last fun fact. Women rarely pay child support. First, they are rarely asked to pay anything if the man has custody. Most men say, "I don't want anything from her." Second, the women usually immediately have another kid having lost one to a father, and of course you can't put a mother in jail for non-support when she has a child at home.

Being single doesn't mean your a idiot or have a bad life

Having been married i'll never do it again. My ex turned from a caring compassionate partner to a nagging condescending bitch soon after I put a ring on her finger. Nothing I did was good enough, nothing I said was right. If I worked 20 hrs of overtime that week she would bitch at me that I didn't work 30 hrs and that I never spent enough time with her. If I bought her something nice for her birthday or Christmas it wasn't good enough because it wasn't as expensive as she wanted it to be, but bitched and complained that I didn't make enough money. When it came to housework/yard work/cleaning she expected me to do everything while she slept in till noon. So I go through a divorce, lost almost everything and came damn close to killing myself because of it. Oh and the best part is no woman will want to be with you because if you're divorced you're labelled a loser and failure while my ex is off doing whatever she wants. Every guy I know whose been married has gone through or going through the same shit. It's not worth it.

It is something that I really need to get over, but one main fear I have with women is the power they can have over me with just a simple act. For example, If I get in a relationship with a girl all they have to do to ruin my life is to accuse me of rape or abuse. She can physically and emotionally assault me, but the instant I raise my arms to defend myself, she will go into a state of victim-hood and cry crocodile tears to gain sympathy. The courts will favor her and after weeks of wasted time and hundreds of dollars, she will get off scot-free. I could lose friends, respect, credibility, and my job, all because I had the audacity to lower my guard with one women. Is it wrong for me to have this fear? Am I a weakling because I don't want a women to decide my fate? I might be strong and willing to protect my girlfriend/mate, but I am not the pretty boy most girls want. And before people spew that "Just have Confidence" garbage, I am happy with my body and my life.

Here in Australia, if you co-habit with a woman for 6 months or more, they gain the same rights as if you were married.

Bingo! I have been single for 15 years and I love it. When I was married I lived paycheck to paycheck no matter how much money I made. Once I got a divorce, I had too much money and had to open my first bank account.
