Gabby thank you so much for this video! Now you said this video was for newbies in the business for no greater than 2 years and as of this month this is my third year and to celebrate 🥳, I'm going to VA Atlanta. I want to do this to learn both the voice end and the business end since things have been kinda slow lately. My goal is to get work. I have a ton of samples but not the big bucks to get a professional demo. What would you advise me to do to make my first VA Atlanta Conference a successful one? 😊 Thank you in advance! 🎉❤

I'm excited for you! Try to attend a session with any and every coach you are thinking about working with. Focus on Biz sessions since that seems to be your current goal. Mingle. Have fun. Get a goodnight's rest each day of the conference but know that the bar is where some of the best conversations and connects are made.

Sound advice (no pun intended). But does anyone else hear some kind of scratching in the background?

To be honest, I see this business as one of most clickiest businesses I ever experienced. Those who are already in the business seem to talk down to those of us who are just starting out, making it sound as though it's an impossible feat to break in and have a career, making fun of the mistakes newcomers make, and charging out the wazoo for coaching, demos etc. So many who are in the business touting their experience, trying to make money off the newcomers. It's actually extremely depressing and disheartening to encounter these types of people in this business...Paul Schmidt to name one! What a horrible mean spirited pompous a hole! I haven't found a community yet in this business, I've only found clicks and VO's trying to drag down and make money off of newcomers.

I've been doing voice over as a hobby for almost 10 years now, I have done a lot of fandub work, and even voiced in some paid projects, as well as an actual video game that released, which by the way didn't help me at all to boost my career in anyway! In all that time I have auditioned for many projects, hundreds and hundreds, most of which unpaid, but a few paid projects too... You are 100% correct it is THE CLICKIEST business around, it's ALL about 'who you know', and most actors whether non voice over, or voice over seem to have become successful from either nepotism, and or sheer luck. I also hate how a lot of voice actors use their social media platform as a tool to spread their political ideologies, but that's a whole other can of worms... Voice acting used to be something I was insanely passionate about, studying the craft of it, learning how to record, mix, and master audio for voice over scenes as well as music mixing, and I feel like all these skills I have attained over the past 10 years I can't do ANYTHING with because the "market" is so competitive and saturated. Don't get me started on the prices of coaching and demos either, it's a JOKE!!!

I'm glad you posted this AND named at least one name; I could name many- I have been in this biz pretty much full time (some time away as well) since 2010, after a career in Southern Calif radio and part time VO since 1992, a LOT longer than most of them! The first name that usually comes to mind is Terry Daniel, who runs probably the most vile negative FB VO group in this business. Most posts by him and other self-anointed "experts" is nothing but personal attacks (along with vulgar language) against others who are doing nothing wrong- I have no idea why he has such a following. His courses and coaching are much pricier than those he accuses of being predators!

@@thatlonzoguy 100% agree! These self anointed "experts" don't seem to understand that their customers (and potential customers) can read their offensive political nonsense as well!
