Buying a boat to do America's Great Loop can be difficult. But size does it matter today I talk a little about running a small trawler and I also now have a 44' trawler and we talk about the advantages and disadvantages to both.

1) Big boat; Big problems. Little boat; Little problems. 2) Everything is a series of trade offs. My choice is C-Dory 22. Nice clip. Thanks

This is a great conversation - much appreciated. In my head I have 40-42 pegged but do like those Rangers and the price premium for those would likely push us back to 32. Plus lack of fly bridge seems like a big hit.

I like the comment you make, "Every foot matters." Not only does it matter for cost at marinas (as my husband keeps reminding me), it also matters for weight and is more to manage. For a young couple like us, I don't think we could manage more than 40 feet. We're in the middle of our boat search for the Great Loop right now and documenting it all on our channel. Thanks for sharing this video! -Karly Nietzel, Navigating Nietzels

A great vlog. A good comparison between two different sizes. Even if it was tough I prefer the space but I got to admit those ranger tugs are sweet.

Totally agree! They are small, but I have also enjoyed most of my smaller boats as well. But having room is nice.

I’m gonna start my great loop this July and I’ve installed everything to perform the loop on a 1988 sea ray 230 weekender 5.7L Hopefully this will be easier on fuel cost and maneuverability

Thanks, but go smaller than you want, that 28' Ranger is livable and it is sea worthy, not to Ireland , but carry extra fuel in good weather the Bahamas are not out of the question, but be prepared, that's not a first trip to take.

Insurance is an issue now as well. We are new to boating. Gonna do the loop staring next year. Cannot get insured on a boat longer than 35’. This is due to the crazy boat market. My $.02.

Yes that can be a problem. But once they commit and get going they love it. Your wife is welcome to call Beverly or Laura anytime.

Would you consider the Hunter 50cc, with its wing keel at 5.50 draft, a reasonable boat for the Great Loop. I admire the Hunter design and the 50 cc, is perfect to the Mrs., and myself for long term cruising. We'd like to do the Great Lopp aboud the Hunter 50 cc.

I have seen them on the loop, 50’ is a bit big, but mine was 50.

I plan on buying a boat for the loop, and one thing that is of concern, is my dog who goes everywhere with me. What are your suggestions?
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 2 года назад
Lots of people loop with there dogs just like me and Beverly, and you will need to get a boat that works for all of you.

I really want to do this but I know a boat floats on water and I really like the Ranger 43 am I crazy for trying this with no experience?
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 2 года назад
It’s been 10 years since I have been on the water. I would tell you not at all Crazy. That boat you have chosen will make your life much easier. I believe that boat has pods just be careful with them. I saw one in the dismal swamp very cool boat. Do you already own it? Who’s going with you?
@Godofthemoon1
@Godofthemoon1 2 года назад
No I don’t own one yet. I’m a otr truck driver I live in my custom 132” sleeper truck now. I’ve been a driver for 25 years. I’m not sure who is going to make this voyage with me it’s probably not going to be anyone with much more experience than me but I’m sure we can figure that out when the time comes. I’m in the planning and learning the rules of water stage. I love to research and learn new things so I feel this will be a great new adventure in life. I’m hoping to retire from trucking in the next year or so so I guess I better start contacting my local pocket yacht dealer about my new boat.

@@NoRegretsLifestyle It does have pods-- you say be careful because it can be more expensive if you run aground? or in reference to what concern??
@williamhalliburton2921
@williamhalliburton2921 2 года назад
This doesn't have nothing to do with the video my concern is and in one month how many times did you fuel up (top off)
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 2 года назад
So I we fuel every 4 or 5 days. Typically 200 miles but have gone as many as 600 miles once. Our trawler gets 2 MPG hope this answers your question
@donaldslider8650

How about a 30'
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle Год назад
Yes a 30’ boat would do just fine. Lots of under 30’ boats do the Loop all the time. The Ranger is probably one of the most common boats on the loop
