I think after Age of Ultron people cant talk about MoS' destruction of Metropolis, when in Avengers 2, Ultron is supposed to wreck entire countries and multiple heroes cant do anything about it. The destruction is a plot point which is to be addressed in BvS, Clark was not Superman in MoS, he was a man just learning about his destiny and powerset and how to use them against a super powered soldier.
Really, so you're telling me Superman can't wreck entire countries? What a marvel fanboy troll, superman would destroy ultron before he could even think.SMH!!
Man, it's so weird going back and watching the speculation before BATMAN v SUPERMAN ever came out lol. I wish we could go back to these old RU-vid days. They were so fun.
I have a feeling that people are starting to feel fatigue of marvel movies and this new story line arc is desperate.People want something fresh and this is where DC has the advantaged.
MrDili4sure I would have agreed with you before this year…but Winter Soldier and especially Guardians definitely proved that's not true. Outside Marvel Studios (looking at you, Sony), I do agree, though; ASM2 sucked, and domestically, it's the worst performing Spidey movie. As for DC…I'll believe it when I see a trailer for each of those movies. So far, they're all talk, and that's what they've been doing for years.
How many Batman and Superman movies have we gotten? Yes yes, this is so new. U know what I also love, my characters getting rebooted over and over and over again. I guess that's the "new" ur talking about, reboot.
You get this feeling from their most recent film being their 3rd highest grossing film and the one before that smashing a box office record for April? Both of which having heaps of critical appraise lobbed there way? Ok. I'm personally just getting warmed up.
I'd like to disagree. Maybe to the super fan who watch shows like this one and read every single titbit about CB movie news they may experience a bit of fatigue( i'm not) however the general public, the people who actually matter when it comes to box office( we only make up a portion of it, maybe like 1%) have a lot of goodwill for Marvel and are excited to see their stuff. Have you seen Guardians' box office numbers?? It beat Man of Steel, the most well known super hero in the world was beaten by something i'd never heard of till it was announced( love CBM, have never read a comic in my life). That shows that Marvel has the goodwill of the people in addition to having enjoyable movies. So no, there is no fatigue, especially from people who actually count BO wise.
Macuga's reaction is gold. Let's be honest though, the real winner is Cobbster... eating popcorn with Alicia while watching Interstellar. Pretty cool. P.S. Shouldn't Cody be cleaning that water spill? ;o) I kid. I kid.
Started watching the show a week or two before the Schmoedown kicked off. I've since gone back and watched many episode/clips from the past. Cant get enough of you guys man. Perfect blend of different personalities. Love the expansion and how much content there is to eat up now. You've gained a lifelong fan! Keep up the great work.
Great show. Loved the schmoedown shocker. I fall on the "obviously it was meant to be Pinocchio's Blue Fairy" side of things, but at the same time, I can understand Kristian's confusion.. slightly.
IV Gecko VI We've known about most of these DC titles for sometime now. We knew that Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, Cyborg (for the most part), and of course Justice League were in the works, we just got release dates. The real surprise was that of Suicide Squad, Green Lantern, and the Flash. Look in terms of news, yes DC has the upper hand at the moment after taking the attention away from Marvel (we are talking 1 film vs like 8 lol), with a brilliant move I must say. However in terms of impact and importants, it doesn't match that of Captain America 3 which is changing the course for the entire Marvel cinematic universe.
Fair enough then. It's not damage control at all, they are trying to maintain an upper hand. Marvel announcing Civil War doesn't damage them it just pushes them away from the Lime light, they don't want that so they knew they had this slate and they released.
Hey I just noticed some more controversy! Leia's cell block was NOT 1138! It was 2187. The other number was mentioned when the officer asked Han what he is doing with that Wookie and he said that they are transferring him FROM cell block 1138 into detention are AA-23. Man, Harloff got shafted by bad questions here :D
Based on the looks of the hosts who took part in the comic book movies debate, I have a question. Are all Marvel fans akward-looking and nerdy while the DC fans are fit and good-looking?
I think DC beats Marvel in the news because let's face it, look at what they are doing with the Dr. Strange casting. They seem to be throwing names out trying to figure out who fits the part they are looking for and some of the actors they are mention don't even want to stick to one property for more than 2 films.
Oh please Mark. Get in tune already with the reality. Aquaman has always been an amazing character besides all the jokes. But, on top of everything, at this point (because of the comics, the video games, the upcoming animated movie Throne of Atlantis) almost everybody knows how a great of a character he is. In fact, it seems like Mark is the only one (way) late to the party that still holds on to back in the day.
I'm gonna be honest I went back and looked at the final footage just to check if Macuga cheated somehow. I didn't think he did in the first place and I just wanted to confirm it. Great show, guys!
- McCuga awesome win! Lol at Alicia Malone, As for the Marvel/DC stuff? Look DC just puts more into their movies even though we see less of them. Their heroes are just more iconic period, always have been and always will be. On this civil war speculation aren't we getting ahead of ourselves a bit? We heard a report that RDJ is close to signing on for Cap 3 that's it. We know things are getting rocky with him and marvel because he wants so much money, we know that he feels he's getting up there in age and someone else needs to play iron man right? What makes you guys think he's signing for multiple movies for a huge civil war storyline?? Which Cap and Iron man are essential to? What makes you think marvel is bringing the infinity stones storyline they been working on since phase 1 to a hault over cival war storyline? Civil war was a big arc in the COMICS, this is the movies we're talking about. That said Civil War most likely be just Cap 3 in the Cinematic Marvelverse with maybe elements or aftermath carrying over to Avengers 3 when Thanos arrives. That's it. I'd put money on it. Otherwise marvel coming outta nowhere with this civil war stuff and suddenly having all their phase 3 films focus on that vs what they've been working on previously seems very very sloppy narrative wise. Anyways I think civil war is just gonna be a great cap 3 movie which I'm fine with, very confident all other phase 3 films are goin to be Thanos/Infinety stone centric especially in Dr. Strange, Thor, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
For the life of me I don't understand why people keep saying D.C. Is playing catch up as some sorta knock against them. Marvel has cinematic universe that's been established for years now. D.C. cinematic universe is just getting started. No matter what D.C. Does by definition YES!! D.C. Is playing catch up. Why do people keep saying that.
Cause they sat on these awesome properties while Marvel did it with their B-Listers...also they tried to get started with Green Lantern and well...that was awful. So the knock is, you have 3 of the most well know superheros on the planet and yet it has taken this long to finally get your shit together enough to actually plan long term and create something spectacular while Marvel, without Spidy and the X-men, managed to pull it off.
Nomz05 Or maybe it has to do with the fact Warner Bros. has more properties and franchises that they divide their focus while Marvel only has Marvel stuff to do and even then it's only two films a year as opposed to the dozens of films Warner Bros. does on a yearly bases.
YonnySix1Six So what exactly stopped Warner Bros. creating a DC studios offshoot that just produces DC movies. At the moment DC trail behind not just the MCU, but also the X-men movie universe. MoS whether you like it or not, wasn't nearly as successful a start as either the first X-Men movie or Ironman. If Batman vs Superman doesn't get great reception (it will make money) then you'd have to ask yourself how many of these movies DC announced will actually get made.
Yomiko Albright "MOS wasn't nearly as successful as X-Men or Iron Man". !!!HUH!!! X-Men- $296,339,717 Iron Man- $582,443,126 Man of Steel- $ 667,999,518 MOS made way more money than Iron Man 1 & every single X-Men film, except for DOFP. In fact it made more money than every single pre Avengers, Marvel Studios made film. So what the hell are you even talking about. MOS was actually way more successful than Iron Man or X-men. You say their playing catch up to X-Men As well. If MOS had a 100% rating from critics & fans on Rotten Tomatoes. D.C. would still be playing catch up. So what's your point if you even have one.
What has box office got to do with it, Transformers earns more than most franchises at the box office but it doesn't make them good movies. Ironman was a film that was loved by most of the movie going audience as well as the critics, the same was also true of the first Xmen movie. A good first movie gets people excited about the next one, which is why we are now seeing BvS next instead of MoS 2 which is what was originally planned. So yeah success...
1:10:00 Iron Man had the good fortune not to have to follow any previous iterations. Not sure you can judge MoS and IM on the same level there. Also MoS already did what AoU is going to do. Story wise it's Marvel who's catching up, which is kind of hilarious.
Boy was your comment dumb, how are they catching up exactly? Level of destruction? I swear DC fans actively try to ignore the core complaint behind the destruction criticisms. It's not just the destruction, it's that Superman in MoS didn't give a fuck about all the death around him, like tongue kissing Lois in the middle of ground zero, it takes a very poor film to ignore that. That wont be happening in AoU. When shit goes down you are going to see the characters feel and react to it.
xblacklacx MOS had great story telling. It's a better film than anything Marvel has put out. YES IN think its better than Avengers. 10 years from now, most of these Marvel films won't hold up. The kiddy jokes will be a huge turn off.
Great schmoedown. Didn't expect Macuga to bet all 6. Seemed dumb. The blue fairy thing is iffy but that's the game. I hope its competitive next week and not just Reilly winning 12-0
Yeah, I'm definitely more excited for what DC has planned. I like their gritty (no cheesy humor) approach. Just work on the story, that's all. Because the properties they have lined up are definitely more interesting than the ones Marvel have.
Both Ellis and Harloff were shocking upsets. Only difference is Ellis shot himself in the foot and Wildman made a lucky guess, supposedly. Harloff was my pick to win it all. What happens if The Wildman upsets Yodi?
Love the show. But you need to put more time into the quiz. It started great. But with each show, standards seem to be slipping. But glad Josh won. I was rooting for him. And Kristians entrance was epic.
Excellent show. Bravo to Cobbster for trying to do the intros, even tho he failed. And then there's Finstock and his love of clavicles. I wonder if he reads clavicles like a phrenologist reads heads, but not many people would want him "reading" their clavicles. As far as the debate, which was my second favorite part of the show, I would say that DC wins. Although I love everything Marvel puts out (and my love was rewarded with Guardians), Marvel has already announced their movie slate (for the most part). So when DC announces its slate, late, it is bigger news. But Matt makes an excellent point about trusting Marvel. Marvel really doesn't need to announce anything because their track record has earned them our loyalty. DC, on the other hand, has to first build our excitement and comic fans are salivating with the thought of Supes fighting the Bats. Now if Marvel messes up with their next movie, we can forgive them, once. But if DC messes up BvS, it will require major effort for us to forgive and forget (like with Batman & Robin). So, because DC is coming to the scene late they have the more exciting news. The best part of the show is the Ultimate Schmoedown. I can hardly believe Harloff lost, but like he said in the beginning, Macuga knows the most random facts that might save his butt. And it did. What an upset, but what a show!
but every other "blue fairy" has a name. She is literally called "The Blue Fairy!" The others were the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty
awesome show, still can't believe the Upset, stupid Blue fairy question. I think DC won the news war, since DC announced their slate of movies no one was talking about civil war anymore everyone was more interested in the DC announcement however Marvel have much greater Track record and their upcoming moves are likely going to be better. I have hope DC can get to a point where they are as loved as Marvel
It's weird tht at everybody was kinda worried that Wonder Woman would be a bomb or not that good and it's the best and one of the most highest grossing dceu movie
I will say that blue fairy question was a little sketchy. However to be fair, many of the questions throughout the tournament varied in difficulty. I thought JTE's were kinda rough last week as well. That's the nature of the game I guess. Great episode guys!
Great episode, informative and fun as always! Some amazing guests, would love to see Stephaune back on the show soon and I agree with him that with no Paul Walker, there should be no more Fast movies. I think Matt Key is a great host of Marvel News for Marvel Fans and is the REAL Sorcerer Supreme, but Adam won the debate with pretty much his first point. Thanks for telling us when the DC Show on SK Podcast will be starting, I can't wait. AND THAT SCHMOEDOWN WAS JUST A THRILL!
I was on Marvels side all the way right up until the Shazam comments and why its been pushed back so late. that's a great point. DC wins - bring it on.
Question when they asked when did Obi wan and Dark Vader have their first fight. Do they mean the first fight ever which was episode 3 or the first time they ever fought on screen which was episode 4 ?
