This song is about Steven Adler, the original Guns n Roses drummer. he was kicked out of GnR cause of his massive heroin addiction. After that he had a stroke and heart attack. he's alive and sober now but has a problem with his speech.
such an amazingly sad story and Sebastian really gives you the feels with this, i've lived this in a way its so hard to watch somebody you love basicly destory themselves i cry so hard when i hear this song it takes me days to get over one listen
Wow. How about that. I have a very convoluted GnR/Slaughter/Bon Jovi/Skid Row connection: For starters, I think everybody knows that there would've never been a Skid Row without Bon Jovi. Several years ago, I became good friends with Phil Varone (Saigon Kick drummer) when he was playing with Skid Row and we would chat for hours at night. (My husband thought it was kinda cool that a rock star had the hots for his wife ~LOL~.) One evening, in fact, Phil was quite excited because they'd just had dinner at Jon Bon Jovi's house, which blew his mind. I even got to chat with Snake that night. At that same time, I had a roadie friend I'd met through Slaughter and he was now with Bon Jovi. That Thanksgiving, I got to party with Skid Row after an Atlanta concert, but Bas was no longer with them. 😢 A few years ago, Steven Adler had his own band, Adler, and my friend Jacob Bunton was his lead singer and the man who kept him out of trouble. That's just an example of how small the world can be.
Sebastian Bach, just reaches a vocal level few can touch, and then he adds unmatched emotion to it. I don’t see how he’s not a top 5 rock vocalist of all-time on anyone’s list.
This is my favourite Skid Row song because it's so deep. I love how Sebastian can sing the hell out of anything and apart from Steven Tyler I've never seen another singer like him.
Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach wrote the lyrics to this song about his friend Steven Adler, who was the original drummer for Guns N' Roses. Adler had a severe heroin addiction that affected his performance, and the band fired him in 1990. He struggled with addiction for most of his life, even appearing on the TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008. Yes horse is a name for heroin !! Steven is actually doing really good now ! He came back and beat it real good so Far !
Wasted Time, In a Darkened Room & Quicksand Jesus are possibly the best songs of that generation and it’s all on one album. Sebastian could hit notes so out of range from regular singers. Absolutely incredible
Sebastian has done things on Broadway, Phantom of the opera, and Jesus Christ Superstar. He's very diverse, and under rated. He was also very smart about marketing himself, and investing his money. Not a dumb rockstar. He still performs with his solo band. And still has his voice.
Love the epilogue. It rings especially true for me. i'm 7.5 years clean from a decade long opiate/benzodiazepine addiction. That doesn't make me a better person than anyone else embroiled in their own battle, but I'm living, breathing proof that it CAN be done. When this song came out, I was in grade 8 and I fell in love with it thinking "I'll never let that happen to myself". Well, it happened. My only advice is do what I did, never give up hope that colour will come back into the world one day. Fight the good fight. Much love.
1 day at a time my brother, it's a constant struggle, but still worth the daily battle. For me I've been clean and sober for 30+ yrs and still it's a battle.
This song just rips me apart every time I hear it. I lost someone very close to me 20 years ago. Every line of this song is so hard to hear because it's so close to my situation. The feeling that I couldve and should've done more but didn't. 😭
I have heard that over the years as well, and I am happy as heck to report that Steven is indeed alive & well. A close friend of mine traveled nearly 13 hours back in May 2019 to see Autograph open up for Steven Adler's Appetite for Destruction (solo band playing GnR songs from that album). The show was in Pennsylvania and we were fortunate enough to meet Steven and hang out backstage before the show - super cool, approachable, and beautiful spirit y'all! He does have some slurred speech goin' on, but man...he can still play his kit with skill and ease. So good.
Such a shame as Gnr were never the same after Steven was kicked out. The current line up is just a circus, nothing like the gritty, dirty rock n roll the original five produced.
Not sure where you're hearing him still hitting the high notes. Everything I've heard from him lately is awful. And he used to be my favorite male singer.
@@spongedebfatpants1308 Okay. He can still hit more than most singers his age. He does earn respect for not dropping the keys to make the notes easier to hit. I hate to see aging singers feel the need to do that.
Sebastian would always give me chills the way he used his unbelievable range, the emotion he pulls out of their lyrics with his singing and the emotion he'd have in his handsome face.☺💙
The song is about Sebastian Bach's friend, Steven Adler, the drummer for Guns N' Roses. He was using heroin a lot at the time and this was Sebastian's pleas for him to stop.
Hey man, you should try In a Darkned Room, by Skid Row... It's about child abuse, and many people claim that this song help them to passing through... Cheers from Brazil man...
This song always reminds me of my best friend, Alan. We were super tight, and I joined the Navy and lost touch due to distance. But even when this song was released he was on the path to follow the theme of this song, which he ultimately did. Tears me up every time I hear it.
Sebastian went and spent a year+ on Broadway playing Jekyll & Hyde. BROADWAY. But yeah, this is about Steven Adler - his close friend and drummer for Guns N’ Roses. It’s sad, man.
Yes, Jamel. “The horse stampedes and rages.” Horse is a street slang for heroin. Another commenter already mentioned that this was written about/for Steven Adler, the original drummer for Guns and Roses who was kicked out because of his heroin addiction. Interestingly, bass player Rachel Bolan who helped write the song calls it “the biggest piece of shit we ever recorded.” I definitely can’t agree with him.
Rachel holds a lot of animosity towards Sebastian, even still after all these years, so I think anytime Sebastian shines, Rachel gets tetchy about it. And yeah, Skid Row without Sebastian is... not worth it. Sebastian on the other hand is out there being the same as always.
Just found your channel tonight & loving going through all the old metal songs from my childhood. 90’s rock was the best!!! See had THE best voice for rock ballads. Please keep doing rock/metal songs 😎
Candlebox "Far Behind" is a heartbreaker about losing a friend to drugs. I'm holding back tears listening to this. It's been a while since I've heard it 🥺
Lyrics You and I together in our lives Sacred ties would never fray Then why can I let myself tell lies And watch you die every day? I think back to the times When dreams were what mattered Though talking youth naivete You said you'd never let me down But the horse stampedes and rages In the name of desperation Is it all just wasted time? Can you look at yourself When you think of what You left behind? Is it all just wasted time? Can you live with yourself When you think of what You've left behind? Paranoid delusions they haunt you Where's my friend I used to know? He's all alone, he's buried deep within A carcass searching for a soul Can you feel me inside Your heart as it's bleeding Why can't you believe You can be loved I hear you scream in agony And the horse stampedes and rages In the name of desperation Is it all just wasted time? Can you look at yourself When you think of what You left behind? Is it all just wasted time? Can you live with yourself When you think of what You've left behind? You said you'd never let me down But the horse stampedes and rages In the name of desperation Is it all just wasted time? Can you look at yourself When you think of what You left behind? Is it all just wasted time? Can you live with yourself When you think of what You've left behind? The sun will rise again The earth will turn to sand Creation's colors seem to fade to grey And you'll see the silky hands of time Will write your final rhyme And end our memory Oh, no! I never thought you'd let it get this far, boy Oh, I never thought I never thought you'd let it get this far, boy Oh, no! I never thought I never thought you'd let it get this far, boy No! I never thought you'd let it get this far, boy
My favorite song by them. Bach’s voice is so powerful on this one. Great choice, Great reaction. You were exactly right about the meaning of this song. I can feel it also when he sings.
I have lost so many beautiful souls in my life from drugs. I've been clean 4 15 yrs. Most of my childhood friends are gone. That's why I remain clean. R.I.P. allmy beautiful souls ❣️
Thanks for reviewing Skid Row, a band that really captured pure energy, talent, showmanship, anthems, of rock and roll .. this was the epitomy of rock and roll, fun, dangerous, energetic, emotional, Skid Row (for two albums) got it, like none other.
Yes, bro...Slave to the Grind...gotta do it now. Really you have little choice and trust us here...you will love it! Thanks man and keep up the good work. One of the top five if not best reaction channels out there!
Again, I never thought about the background story or this song but you’re right on. Horse or H is a name for heroin. You’re reaction is spot on! Great reaction! Thank you for bringing Skid Row back into my life. Their music is great music to work out to!
I have a love/hate relationship with this song. I love the vocals and lyrics, but it pains me to hear this song because I used to slam speed with a friend in high school. God saved me from my addiction, but my friend overdosed before he was 20. This song always brings me to tears.
Sebastian Bach um grande vocalista, aliás o maior vocalista. Sem Sebastian Skid Row se acabou, cometeram um erro fatal. Sempre amaremos Sebastian um lindo anjo na terra,
Sebastian Bach is a great vocalist, indeed the greatest vocalist. Without Sebastian Skid Row is over, they made a fatal mistake. We will always love Sebastian a beautiful angel on earth,
I like many songs from Skid Row, but I want to say this is one of the top songs from the band. This song talks about specific things that happened, but it can be applied to one outside the lyrics. It is a song that talks about a first person view, but can be seen in a third person of oneself. It really makes you think from the story and yourself. Moving from the philosophical view.
You’re reaction was so true and real to this song. This is such an amazing song by SR cause it’s from the heart and like you said, you can hear the pain in Sebastian’s voice. Out of all the reactors to this song, yours was by far the most relatable the way you understood and explained it. Thanks and keep up the great reactions friend!
Sir, you're pulling at the heart strings tonight. 1st, Skid Row is the soundtrack of my youth. No one can cry like Bach. It's beautiful, I agree. 2nd, Thank you for your words after the song. I needed to hear that, right in that moment. Tmrw will look different to me now, and I welcome it. Keep doing what you're doing, with the knowledge that it IS working. I see you. 🙏 P.S. I would love to see your reaction to the other side of Skid Row. "Livin' on a Chain Gang" is a powerful message, in a heavier setting. thnx
Skid Row was my favorite rock band when I was an early teenager!!! Slave to the grind is of the best hard rock/metal albums I've ever heard... Snake & Bolan we're very good songwritters with deep lyrics ... And of course, Bach got of most powerful voices in rock. Skid Row was a great rock band: voices, compositions, solos, drums, all the band no doubt.... Love them even their musical career was very brief!!!
'Horse' is a euphemism for heroin. His friend threw his life away with his addiction. "The horse stampedes and rages" refers to the addiction running rampant inside him, taking over his existence, ruining his life and, in the process, their friendship. "Paranoid delusions they haunt you Where's my friend I used to know? He's all alone, he's buried deep within A carcass searching for a soul"
Great reaction, amazing song. I loved it as a teenager and I'm still moved by it whenever I hear it somewhere. I think this song was one of the reasons I never tried harder drugs, even if I had friends who did in my late teenage years. Greetings from Germany!
Probably my favorite song by the Skids. They really knew how to paint/color a picture with their lyrics and instruments. Very powerful tune that reaches out and grabs you like no other song does. Shout out for a really tasty gtr solo. Fits so well in this song. I met a couple of these guys in a gogo bar in Asbury Park one night. Tracey Guns was with them. They just came from Rachel Bolens' wedding. Nice guys too.
You're the only person out of all the other reaction videos to recognize the street slang of "horse" or specifically the symbolism of the "white horse". Others don't get it or never even made mention of, which leads me to believe they just so happen to see a random stampeding and raging farm animal in a song about heroin addiction. To them, it may as well have been a stampeding and raging cow, pig, goat, llama, perhaps even a chicken.
This is a great vocal performance. This song is about Steve Adler. He was the original drummer for Guns N Roses. He was kicked out of the band for drug abuse. Quicksand Jesus and 18 and life are my fav Skid Row songs.
And also , yeah . Your'e right about the heroin/horse connection . So many good people lost to it . Most just trying to escape inner turmoil . It is such a shame
Another Amazing song and great reaction bro thanx for jamming with me. I'm 50 I was a teenager when those guys came out thx for bringing back some good memories much respect J
I took the horse as an abstraction of something wild being held captive. The band broke so many molds with this album, from the rock/compositional dynamics, the lyrics, the range of subject matter. Skid Row was lost to the glam label but they're truly the band that eclipsed rock and roll into something that could contain some seriousness again.
P.S.: could you please react to "When the children cry" by White Lion? another meaningful song that will have you thinking about what the future has in store for us and how we rely on the new generations to be the saviors of our actions today with bad consequences and that they will have to be the ones to bear with, and fix it all for us, truly great song.
@@psychochicken9535 100% spot on. They kind of lived in the shadows of the huge arena hair bands but White Lion was such a great band. I wore out Pride and Mane Attraction
