@@ye427 if that is the symptom then the drivers door connections and wires behind the rubber boot by the hinges need looking at. If these are OK then the microswitch in the driver door lock/catch will be worn and will need replacing. either replace the whole lock mechanism (easiest) or just the microswitch (cheapest). i've done a video on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x1DJz4_2n-s.html . Hello Harvey, Thank you for your amazing videos, I'm a big fan of yours! Unfortunately, I have some issues with my skoda fabia 1 2005. My right back door jammed a year ago and I have left it that way until now. You know, I was tired off the passengers trying to open it and I'm always like - Nooo, don't pull it, its jammed, get to the other door. These days I decited to change the door locking mechanism. I carefully dissasembled the door and all of it's parts, fixed the window up with a vacuum holder, before I take out the window lifter. And finaly I reached the locking mechanism. I've watched some videos of people having the same problem and they explain how you have to shake and pull the locking mechanism in order to make it work again just to unclock the door and to be able to replace the locker. So I have reached the locking mechanism, but I was unable to unclock it even though I shook it, hit it multiple times. I concluded that the locking mechanism is not fully jammed, because when I press the unlocking button of my key I can hear a clicking noise inside the lock, but I guess it's not enough to unclock the door. Someone told me that the electric current that reach the locker might not be enought to unlcock it. Ofcourse I have measured the current magnitute and it gave me aroun 5-6 volts. I think that it's not mandatory to have 12 volts on each end of the electirc system of the car, considering the fact the energy is spread all around the systems and there migh be some elelctric losts. I'm truly desperate at the moment and I don't know do I have to look for the problem in some other place, or I just need to buy new electirck lock and test if it works with it. Thank you for your time. Best wishes.

Fixed, I broke the locking mechanism and opened the door. The battery voltage was low by the time i measured it. Therefore I have tried to measure it on full battery and i get 12 volts. Changed the locking mechansm and everything works fine now.

Thank You. Very usefull and exactly what I need for further investigation on my Skoda Fabia 2004 1.9 TDI. The boot is locked and can not be opened by the handle on the back, but only by pulling the handle at the front seat. It has no influence either og not a door is open or closed. There is no click sound, when I try to open by the handle on the back. I have the suspicion, that it is an error in the solenoid. I will return here when I find out.

Hmm interesting, it worked fine yesterday, soldered the wire back to the boot handle switch solving the initial problem, however mysteriously stopped working today. Rechecked the soldered wiring and solenoid is fine, but don't get the twelve volt signal to the solenoid terminals when I press the handle switch. The problem could be in the drivers door now or it could be the boot latch itself. I do have some issues with the central locking having a mind of its own as well 😂
@HatBoyHarvey

Could easily be the microswitch if it hasn't been renewed before. The wires going into the door behind the bellows can fray also so worth a look at.

Thank you. In my Fabia the door only opens after the third try. Do you think it is the position of the solenoid mechanism? Or lack of force of the solenoid? The car has 17 years and has the original system.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 4 года назад
It could be having trouble initially actuating as you say or getting jammed or something, or the lever arm mechanism on the bracket. If you take off the cover you can see it working/or not through the glass. If the button only clicks on the third attempt then that maybe the problem. I would go through things systematically starting with the car battery, good power/ground, remove and refit connections, check for breaks, test the feed and solenoid if you have a meter. They don't cost too much so you could just buy and try. Hope this helps :-)
@ruimvp
@ruimvp 4 года назад
@@HatBoyHarvey the lever goes up in every attempt but only at third attempt the door releases. Maybe I could approximate the lever to the door lock 2 or 3 mm? The battery is good. It is a Bosch S4 with less than 1 year and the alternator keeps always 14,1 Volt without problem when lights on.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 4 года назад
@@ruimvp Yes it does sound like the lever isn't going far enough to open it, whereas the manual lever I presume does open it. I wonder if the linkages between the lever arm and the solenoid pin are worn too much. The mechanism doesn't seem to have any adjustment built into that part so it would be a case of bending and twisting it into a better position to see if you can get it to work before buying a new one/or not:-)

@@HatBoyHarvey Solved. The problem was on the 2 rubber mushrooms in each side of the trunk door. They are adjustable by rotating , going in or out, and control the distance of the closed door to the body of the Fabia. In this case they where too in and not allowing the automatic door release when order to open. Hope this helps someone or be an idea for a new video. Thank you.

@HatBoyHarvey

No, it should open when you open the car with central locking. Most common fault is the driver door lock micro switch no signaling it is open. boot hatch should open when you press the switch on the tailgate which yo can hear clicking - if not this maybe the fault also :-)

so wait.. the boot should NOT open if you don't open the driver door AND a passenger door ? I have it like that but i thought it was a faulty central locking issue.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 4 года назад
It can be intermittent so is hard to fault find and confuses, but basically if the car is old and has had high usage the drivers door lock is prone to cause issues. The drivers door may open when unlocking, but the switch tells the convenience unit it is still locked, hence the boot not opening until another door opens. test your step by step to see what the car is actually doing making sure main/fob batteries are all good and it isn't damp when you test.
