Skyjiro forge out of California told me not to take apart my Australian bought, Hota Tegai. When I received it from Australia, the tsuba had green corrosion on it. I was worried that the tang was corroded as well. I had no trouble getting it apart. Glad I did because it did have corrosion under the habaki.

I think if swords are used for cutting they should be disassembled to inspect the wood core, tang and others for any need of maintenance, I was very curious as to how the nakago and such looked, glad I did.

@@JoeSteel1 Especially if you're cutting water bottles. Yeah right nothing's getting down that Habaki.

They definitely do not make it easy though. On both of the ones i own, one of each side of the mekugi-ana are covered by ito. With them having such a tight tsukamaki, that makes disassbly very difficult. Good video.
@erichusayn
@erichusayn Год назад
I still say that if Byrd has the cash, he should go with Motohara though. Lol.
@erichusayn
@erichusayn Год назад
Also, is the edge of the tsuka in line with the ha, but slightly canted at the kashira when you hold it up in the "check for a set" way? Both of mine are. Not super bad, but causes me to have to adapt my technique to get edge aligned properly.
@JoeSteel1
@JoeSteel1 Год назад
Haven't noticed a canter...motohara is always the best choice, but he's gotta save up the cash of 2 to 3 swords for 1...which is cool as long as it's epic... .I should have mentioned that the fit and finish is not as good as the Huawai, that thing came apart super easy and fit better than a glove
@erichusayn
@erichusayn Год назад
@JS Bladecraft my Huawei does as well. If I had the cash I'd have a motohara in the works. They can do hira and unokubi zukuri now too.

Nice nakago, they did a nice job on the file work. Kinda a pain as tight as everything is, but in the same sense it won't go flying off if the pegs fail.

I guess if you are in a place where humidity fluctuates, the “glued to the tang” impression is coming from places where due to the surrounding humidity, the wooden handle swells and adds to the already tight fit of the sword. Also handling a sharp blade where you need to use a rubber mallet, if you do not know how to handle it and cut yourself, maybe for people who only buy these to collect them, do not use them or practice with them… that could be why that recommendation is being made
@JoeSteel1
@JoeSteel1 2 месяца назад
Thank you for comments contribution, the humidity can definitely be a strong factor, or the fact that most manufacturers tend to tension fit the pieces together, some don't realize that a rubber malet is a needed tool for disassembly

What do y'all think of copper mikugi pins and that's a nice blade
@JoeSteel1
@JoeSteel1 Год назад
Copper would be preferable but don't know if it would be as efficient, they gotta be sized perfectly or imagine they can fall out if too smooth.

wait.... Why put on one glove and then still touch everything with the other hand? Haha
@JoeSteel1
@JoeSteel1 Год назад
Ahhhh if you pay attention the gloveless hand was not touching the steel while the gloved hand was handling the nakago(tang)

Would you like to back that up or do you just want to trash talk???? Oh I'm sorry you most probably CAN'T
@notanotherswordreviewchann4901
People love talking trash about skyjiro because they do so much better than everyone else. I've taken mine apart many times and it always goes back together just as it was new. People are stupid...
@JoeSteel1
@JoeSteel1 Год назад
Haters will love to hate.. Skyjiro is not perfect, but do make a dam good product and priced for it...but I wouldn't go for there super expensive models as there is not much difference from there sub 1k editions
