Oh my God. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD!!!!!! Did I just honestly hear Guaraní in there? Man I'm gonna cry of happiness here. I'm Paraguayan and I can't believe that foreigners actually want to learn this second mother language of ours. Gosh... I feel so happy I can't describe. Thank you Benny.
A great initiative, Benny, and even better in its execution. Thanks for including me, however, had I known of the wonderful performing and singing quality of the other participants I might have chickened out. A positive message delivered with pizzazz. Good on you!
Over eight years later and this is still possibly the coolest collaboration I’ve seen on youtube. It’s super inspiring and fun. Awesome video. Just thinking of this again so many years later makes me want to get back to learning a new language.
Oh! I cannot begin to explain the feelings I'm feeling... this is one of the most inspiring, cool and fun videos EVA! I really feel that among polyglots or simply syked for languages people I'm in my element. You guys are the coolest, I feel like I fit in haha. :D Does anybody know what I'm talking about? When you find someone who's like-minded, well, they're always pretty cool. :D I speak Bulgarian, English and German and lately I've been quite motivated to learn Japanese. I'm talking about it a lot lately and some of the people I told about my plans to encouraged me a lot and some told me about people who speak like 20 languages and I just couldn't believe it... I've always and I mean always wanted to learn English, German, French, Italian, Japanese and Hebrew. I'm 19 now and I was really starting to think I'm too old now to actually reach that goal (lol, another myth.), but I've been greatly inspired. Those are seven languages - one is my native, one I already speak fluently (English) and one I aaaalmost speak fluently (German), so there's *just* four more to go to fulfill my dream, lol. :D I could easily add more to the list. I feel great, I feel free to dream. :)
I told people that they didn't need to translate my English lyrics precisely, but to come up with something with the right number of syllables for the song that was reasonably close. "You are not timid" is for me a perfectly reasonable translation of "Don't be shy man" based on how I made my request, as it holds the same core meaning. Direct translations would have made it impossible to sing. I don't know any Greek: "Believe I didn't notice" because of that. You'd have to talk to them about it
Thanks so much Richard! I bounced ideas for this off you in Skype originally, so it all worked out really well! I told you I'd come up with a good polyglot video. Wait until you see how many views this video gets when the counter refreshes in a few hours... and continues going up over the weekend...
Oh yes, I am learning Mandarin (well trying) and this video has just made me well and truly happy to keep trying. I can only speak English but seeing this video has given me a motivation boost to learn more. Thank you
Thank you for making this possible, Benny! It was great to be part of this. Loving our fab online language family and the great support from all over the world! :)
Thanks Benny for getting us all together in this super well-made video. I know it was a colossal task to organize 17 people and handle the editing. My hat (sombrero) is off to you:)
Definitely wouldn't have been the same without you Stujay! Thanks for the gorgeous video footage and great singing!! So glad it all worked out :) The world is smaller than you think! We'll meet up for sure!
Wow! Benny, I learned about you and your work while I was studying "Learning how to learn" course on Coursera:) Thank you for so helpful advices! Actually, I study english several years and can't speak free without hesitation. It's time for speaking and overcoming my shyness:)
Thanks for that! I hope more people send me some more translations, as I want as many to understand it as possible :) Also, it's a great extra tool to practise the target language if you are learning it and want something to read with some nice music on at the same time ;)
Hi Benny, Thanks a lot for your incredible teaching techniques. They are absolutely brilliant! I am trying to use the advice from your blog to learn Hindi, Urdu & Gujarati. You truly have a special gift, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much Benny and the 15 other participants !!! I really love this song ! I'm so addicted to it and I think I've listening it more than 60 times now =) and I keep listening =) GREAT WORK !!! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR EGYPTIAN MISSION !!!
AWESOME VIDEO !!! Loved it !!! google is your friend but google translate is not your friend… "so come online" = "alors viens en ligne" or "alors viens online" "and skype me if you can" = "et skype moi si tu (s'tu) peux" ("mouais" is slang for a soft "yes")
Mais au québec.... (j'assume que tu es québécois(e)) vous dites "moué" au lieu de dire "moa" avec l'accent parisien. Mais c'est vrai que c'était un peu bizarre. Vient-on en ligne ahah
"Viens-t-en online et skype moé s'tu peux." is definitely correct Quebec French and this is how we would spell it :) it is indeed spoken language and we usually write French in "standard French", however as a direct subtitle to what he's saying this was accurate no problem ;) actually you're right, the "mouais" should have been "moé" - as you stated "mouais" is similar to english "myeah" or "meh" - where here he's saying "me" in quebec slang: moé. (sorry for the necro answer lol)
Right back at you! :) Our level-up afternoon has inspired me to this day, and seeing how much the world loved watching the video of us working together, well, that was the inspiration for what got me started to think about making this video in the first place!
I love this video! I've watched it loads, usually before I start working on my languages ;) Very inspirational! Now whenever I feel a bit down and don't have any desire to study I'll give this video a look and be instantly inspired! Thanks to all the polyglots!
Fantastic job! The video is truly hilarious! I'm totally cracking up, just can't help it))))) It was so incredible watching some of the more calm polyglots loosen up a bit.
In Hindsight, shooting a documentary of the making of this clip would have been a blast - all the stuff you went through with us to coordinate and put the clip together. Would have given some fun insights into language.
While I was traveling in the frozen North (-41 with the wind), this but of warm sunshine was released from Brazil. This is my first chance to comment. A great initiative, Benny, and even better in its execution. Thanks for including me, however, had I known of the wonderful performing and singing quality of the other participants I might have chickened out. A positive message delivered with pizzazz. Good on you!
I love all the language learning experts in 1 video! learning songs to learn Spanish is an awesome strategy that I have used with my students! Thanks for all the inspiration Benny!
This will reach hopefully over 10000 views in a day ... It really deserves this, you did a great job , I know something about video editing and this is a Extraordinary Job (I really can imagine the time you've put in to create this ) ! Inspiring Benny =P
Actually, the professor is the only one who didn't reply to my email invitation. It's weird because he replied to my emails a few months ago when we tried to meet up (but he had to leave Singapore at the last minute). There are "only" 30 odd languages, so there are plenty missing. This is not avoiding them, but just the nature of what each language every polyglot decided to take. I think the mixture we have is nice and varied, reflecting big and less common languages but it can never be perfect
Este es sin duda el MEJOR video que hay en RU-vid You completely inspire me for learning languages, because I am trying to speak mandarin, italian, portuguese, french, german and much more! Questo video è meravigliosissimo e tu sei molto bravo anche! Grazie mille! Merci Beacoup!
I just watched this for maybe the 5th time or so since you released it. This time though, towards the last 20 seconds of the song I began to actually tear up because of how beautiful and inspiring this song is. Thanks again for making this.
Really enjoyed hearing so many languages from people that love studying them. Any time you can get Richard, Steve, & Moses involved in the same video, you know it's going to be gold lol- I also can't wait to look up the others I wasn't aware of. Thanks for putting this together!
Saw this awhile back, when I thought..."It's no use..." ...Now I understand the french! Je vouse remerci Benny! Your videos and of the other Polyglots always keep me going! Muchas Grasias!
Everyone picked their own languages, and it was on a first come first served basis. I didn't pick mine until the very end, to make sure others had more flexibility. I wrote the first half of the lyrics, then Susanna helped to tidy it up and write a second big chunk, then Steve Kaufmann tweaked it further. These lyrics were in English and I told people to try to be close to the spirit of it in their translations, without strictly sticking to it, so things would sound more natural in each language
Wow! I loved that! :D I'm aiming to be able to speak quite a few languages! And it was nice to hear Welsh in the video, that's one of the languages I want to learn! :D
Glad to see this cheers you up! May I suggest you install Stumbleupon, select some positive topics and then go into video mode? That always cheers me up when I'm blue! And I'd be very happy to upload Romanized karaoke subtitles if someone were to supply them!! Since English is being used, I could upload it as English UK or something.
This is hilarious! I love it! Such a nice thing for you all to collaborate on and really fun. Looking forward to what you come up with next Benny! Aislinn
What an AWESOME idea! I have a feeling I'm going to be watching this alot. It's really neat to so many languages included in one. Love it. Great motivator too!
Easy there. Not my choice, please send all complaints to RU-vid. They disable them if any copyrighted material is used, and as you can see by the title forced into the description, I'm using a copyrighted instrumental of the famous song. Why they disable public statistics is beyond me, but nothing I can control. I leave them on for my videos.
It feels really good when you can undersatnd the whole thing by the english subtitles! And also that my mother language is there!! Babies!! Spain goes up! Spanish!! It's just like a little pleasure of life to everyone who is like excited to see its language coming out on the video! I feel like really happy! And i just discovered Benny and I am so excited to learn more languages just by reading a few post and watching some videos! I hope some day I won't be just able to speak English and Spanish but other languages like French, German, Italian o Chinese why not? I don't know but i really look forward to do it. THANKS BENNY, thanks for just sharing your experiences. I alredy love traveling but I want to do it not just because turism.
OMG OMG OMG. GUARANI IT'S ON IT. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I ADMIRE SO BAD TO ALL OF YOU! I'M STILL WORKING ON THEM, BUT SO FAR, I SPEAK 5 LANGUAGES :D XO FROM PARAGUAY ;) (sorry about the caps, i'm just TOO excited!) it was sooo nice to see my favorite polyglots all in one place and singing ^_^
Excellent video! If not for the pure humorous value, then for the fact that I've just been introduced to 20+ new language learning channels abuzz with learning tips and experiences. Thanks, Go raibh maith agat, Merci, Mersi!
This is sooo inspiring and moving! Aside from the fact that the idea of multilingualism is beautiful and eye-opening itself, this video shows another interesting thing... In the world where everyone is expected to speak English, still there are people who are willing to learn other languages and not because of their usefulness in job environment, popularity nor trendiness, but just because they ENJOY IT. Guarani, Swiss German, Polish, Greek? Hell yes! :) Thank you Benny for this encouraging song!
Magnificent and inspirational. Many thanks for putting this together. What a great community of people. And I'm glad that you are on good terms with Steve again, Benny ;-)
Hello! Thanks for this great video and song!! I speak Russian, learning English. I'd also very fond of and like to learn some Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, French, and from time to time Spanish, Italian, German... Anyway, This is very inspiring! :)
Awesome video, was very well done. Really shows that youtube polyglot community is a community. I see some new people I did not know about will defiantly be checking out their channels.
