This is the slayer i used to go and see , when they came to England id be at 4 or 5 shows , Dave is critical to the slayer sound, i don't care what anyone says .
Bostaph is good in his own right, but Lombardo has those air tight double kicks. Something Bostaph never had, his kicks sound like shoes in a dryer. There's a live video of Lombardo playing Disciple with Slayer and he plays those kicks measure perfect (and with some swing!)
I just want to share my story too, I'm 31 now. I saw slayer for first time in 2005 at the unholy alliance tour with lamb of God. Saw them every single time after that up until the last show with Jeff in 2012 and the first show with holt in 2013 and then a couple times after that. I will never forget all those years show after show of one of my favorite bands forever.. rip Hanneman, forever reigning.
That double bass never gets old. Check out Fantomas - its Mike Patton with Lombardo on drums . Igor from sepultura maybe better but they're both though both ridiculously good
Dave played this exact like the studio recording he wrote. Dave has a very natural playing style. Here is a cool fact about Dave - - - Dave is naturally left handed and as you can see he plays right handed.
I always wanted to know what and how they play them solos. This enlightened me a very little bit. I think they are using minor pentatonic mixed with every other tone available?
Slayer as I remember it back when I was a teenager. Dave at his best, and Jeff alive. Kerry is starting a new band. I wonder what it will be. It will never be anything like Slayer without Tom and Jeff, but the project looks quiet interesting, if it will ever work out.
