Okay, we finally started! We reached the point where we just had to start some kind of sleep training, so here's what we've been doing lately and how Jackson's been handling it. This is what I'd consider a modified version of the cry it out method, so I hope it helps if you're also experiencing sleep issues with your little ones! xoxox, Kayla

For everyone who commented on loosing the suit - it is very difficult for a baby to sleep without feeling “contained” and it looks like the merlin suit is helping with that after growing out of swaddling. I haven’t found any good sleep suit / sleep solution that allows the baby to move as well as provide this cosy “envelope” they crave for. Blankets move and can cover their faces, sleeping bags and sleep suits stop them from moving to get comfortable and standard pijamas are not warm enough and they feel too loose. We are in great need of a new invention for baby sleeping!!

My baby girl is 4 months & going through a sleep regression everyone is telling me to start sleep training so I'm doing research n will start soon but omg this is the hardest thing ever as a mom I know I'm going to cry 😩 but I know it's better for them in the long run

God it’s incredible that you’re doing the cry it out method I could never do it with my daughter who was also a terrible sleeper. I know it’s what works the best but I literally could not handle it. It also makes me so sad the way he clutches on to you after finally being picked up! I know these days are so hard and seem endless but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel soon! And to all the people saying he wants to roll over, newborns may WANT to roll over but sleeping flat in their backs is literally the safest way to sleep for them and decreases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Look it up
@erinstorm6716
@erinstorm6716 4 года назад
He is old enough to roll to his belly and sleep on his belly... prior to the merlin suit he was struggling with sleep so they just started using the snoo and its working for him right now.. but it is safe for babies to belly sleep if they are able to roll onto their bellys by themselves.

When I was a baby loooong ago before things like a Snoo, I cried whenever my mobile stopped moving, so my Mom tied a string to my mobile and tied the other end to her toe in bed, whenever I cried she wiggled her toe. Ha. But, one time, I wouldn't stop crying and she came in and saw the mobile hand been pulled down onto me! Mom's do what Mom's gotta do to get some sleep. I co-slept with both my kids. They are all grown now and sleep fine - I meanwhile, have horrible insomnia all my adult life. The sleep struggles are real.

How does co sleeping work??
@birdgirl2289
@birdgirl2289 4 года назад
@@ozzibear They slept in our bed with us. It can be unsafe I think, especially if you have a lot of blankets and pillows and you're a deep sleeper. But I am such a light sleeper it worked very well for us. They were right there when they needed to be fed. I had mesh bed rails so they could sleep on the outside of the bed. But, it's not for everyone! We couldn't sleep train either - just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. We had a very well established bedtime routine and that helped a lot when they transitioned to their own beds at around 2 1/2 years old. They're now adults and sleep much better than I ever have! You just have to follow your heart and parent to match their personality a bit.

Kayla,you're such a strong,amazing mama. Don't think I'm strong enough to try sleep training. My baba is the same age as Jackson, born on the 12th December 2019. Fortunately she sleeps in stretches of between 4 to 6 hours at night, in the afternoon not that long. Just before she turned 5 months she's been wanting to sleep on my chest for her day naps. Big ups to you for being so patient with him❤

I did the exact things like u did, but i also started to put him down when he was still awake (close to sleep) from when he was 7 weeks old. He was able to do 10hour stretches by the time he was 4 months old, but i did dream-feed at 22h, when i woke him up (i did it as in book the contented little baby by gina ford) and then at 4-month sleep regression I did the method as you did (this has helped us to go through the phase when he regrrssed a bit-luckily thing got great by the 5month mark and from 6and a half he ha been sleeping though the night without dream feed. Now what was really helping was also that if he had a night when he woke up, i offered him just very small amount of the milk from the bottle (about 60ml-2ounces) just so that it helped him go back to sleep and not turning the into the habit of eating at 3-4am. But if he woke up after 5pm, i just did the whole feed. Anyway, the book explains it very well, and I am a firm believer that my son is such a good sleeper now because of it (he is 10,5months old now and has been still sleeping 10-11hours at night without wakings)

With my son we transitioned him to his crib because his bassinet became too small and we found him wanting to sleep on his side since he started rolling over at 3 months. Since then he sleeps much better in his crib because he can move a round a bit before falling asleep versus being stuck on his back.

Floor beds are great, my son has been sleeping in his floor bed (twin size) since he was 5 weeks old. I never hada bassinet or a crib (used the snuggle me for the first 5 weeks). I can lay down beside him until he falls asleep (play with his hair, give him his paci, and sing to him) so he's falling asleep on his own but I'm just there helping him and eventually I'll reduce the amount I'm there beside him... he's 3 months old and sleeps for 8-10 hours straight. Naps are still all over the place but at least he got the night sleep down.

I’m a mom of 3 and know how hard sleep training is! My second baby was like this and the best thing is just letting them cry, you might be dragging out his sleep, and the sleep training process in general by going in the room so often. He is learning that if he cries, you will come in, and essentially he might be falling asleep BC he is so tired, not because he self soothes. I know there are so many opinions on here, he is your baby and ultimately you do what you think is best! Good luck momma!

I watched Riley's sleep training video when my daughter was 10 months old. (her and Riley are exactly a year apart) I tried the Ferber method like you did with her and like you said, going in there just made her even more mad. So I switched to complete extinction cry it out method and kind of modified it myself. Of course she was a lot older than Jackson and older than Riley was but If she was crying to the point where she couldn't catch her breath, I would go in and pick her up for like 30 seconds and tell her I love her and put her back down. She was sleeping through the night within 2 nights. But I'm so glad Jackson is showing a little progress! I think he should probably get out of the Merlin suit pretty soon though. He's basically rolling even though he can't get over his arm. he may be trying to sleep on his tummy, that could be a reason why he's holding onto the side of the snoo. He will eventually learn to stop startling so easily. My daughter started sleeping on her belly when we sleep trained, weirdly. I'm glad this is working for you though mama!!! 💗

I recently sleep trained too and I had to do extinction because I found my daughter was getting more and more upset with the check-ins versus getting calmer. It was the hardest thing I've had to do with her. I bawled each time. The most she cried was 25 minutes and it killed me. I felt like the worst human being and mother ever. We just did the Ferber method for nighttime with our 5.5 month old and he also can settle himself to sleep now. He does tend to still wake up once or twice in the night, and last night was from 1-2 that he had to cry it out, but overall it is a million times better than the 5-10 wake ups a night he was doing. We also transitioned him to his crib and I swear he sleeps better in his own room! I am starting the nap training next week because I still currently have him being held for his naps or else he wakes up after 20 minutes 😬

I got a tip .my son loves the fisher price soothe and glow seahorse at Walmart to help him sleep so what I do is put him in a sleep sack rock him for awhile and sing to him like nursing rhymes and then when I see his slowly closing I lay him down and turn on the seahorse and mind you he still have the other sound machine on like what your son Jackson has so the seahorse basically replaces your singing . And even tho he goes on the bed and he wakes up the light from the seahorse should get him tired that’s how I got my son to sleep through the night .

We were given hand me downs of the Carter's Microfleece Sleep Bags, they aren't nearly as bulky, I feel like maybe Jackson may be more comfy in them and you could pair them with a heavier weight or lighter weight footed sleeper or even like a short sleeved onesie based on the daily weather forecast. Maybe worth a try. I agree that I think once he's good at rolling it'll help him because I bet he wants to be on his tummy but I'd wait till he can get into and out of that position well on his own. I did that with my oldest as I always lay them down on their backs per recommendations. I try to always follow the SIDS recommendations. Like I saw someone suggested you put your milk on a shirt but I'd say no to that and instead put a drop or 2 on whatever sheets he's using so there's no SIDS risks or maybe a drop or 2 on his sleep sack or PJs, instead.

You are a great, loving Mom Kayla. You have a beautiful family. I have 3 children and each responded different to sleep training. Just in case it helps you, I would like to mention that my oldest daughter could never sleep on her back, at about 4 months old that she was able to roll over she would always roll on her tummy when I put her in the crib and would sleep through the night like magic. No crying. Same for the naps, she went from napping about half an hour to about 2-2 1/2 hours. She is now 17 years old and still sleeps on her stomach. My boy would sleep on his side, again, since about 5 months old baby, he would position himself like that. My youngest daughter was the only one of my babies that was able to sleep on his back. All of them were put to sleep in their cribs since coming from the hospital, in my room, but in their cribs, until five months old that would move to their own rooms. Hope this helps and no worries Kayla, you are doing a great job and your children will be fine. Sending you blessings.

I have always always wondered..babies are such perfect creations of God. They know digestion, metabolism, temperature control, cognition. But why don't they know just how to sleep !???!!! What must be God's plan behind this ? I have struggled with my baby's sleep for 10 months..and it's now that I've got a little relief. But every evening I get borderline anxiety wondering about how the night will go..!

KAYLA!! question!! I really hope you can respond... I purchased the collagen peptides and the benefits are very appealing to me, especially the joint support and skin health, but it does say to consult your physician if pregnant or nursing... i am nursing my 2 month old, both him and i are healthy, i know you are nursing as well. My physician will not tell me one way or the other, most likely because they dont want to be liable if something were to go wrong... they say it is 'unethical' to test and study, so im wondering is it actually safe to take, have you talked to you doctor and if so what did they say? What are your thoughts and personal opinions on it? I am also continuing my prenatals.. So i just want to make sure im not overdosing on vitamins and not taking anything that could be harmful to my baby boy. I know your not a doctor but doctors dont always have an answer for everything and you have experience with it.. please and thank you

Today my baby only cried for 2 mins and slept on his own again. U can do this! It’s worth it. Being able to sleep is beneficial for everyone and also for your baby’s growth and development. This is why we chose to do it too.

Have you heard of tension decreaser and tension increaser babies? Tension decreasers are babies who need to release their tension through crying/squirming to actually relax whereas tension increasers are babies that once they get wound up they get more and more upset and it's harder to calm them down. I'm wondering if Jackson is a tension decreaser and just needs that time to get his stress out.

I'll be trying your method for sure for the next baby Btw if Jackson is holding onto the side like that it might be because he wants to roll over or needs more space. My son did the same exact thing until I finally tried putting him in the crib and he slept more comfortable ( He was also around 5 months when he started doing that)

Babies are meant to wake up as a protection against SIDs. They also wake up for warmth, nutrition, and comfort. Crying it out is not for the baby's sake, it is for your sake and its a shame that we cant make that sacrifice for our babies as their first year flies by. Once they are old enough to communicate you can begin teaching self-soothing and explain the situation. I have a 6month old that never sleeps more than 3 hours at a time. Yes, it is hard, but she's worth it.

To be honest I think a lot of pressure for a baby to sleep through comes from others parents. Its the same question every time 'is your baby a good sleeper? Do they sleep through yet? Why can't we just accept that babies don't always sleep through and that we will have disrupted sleep for a while

This is what my struggle is right now. My son will go to sleep at night but I need to rock him or put in the carrier and should be in deep sleep before putting him down in his crib. I will start doing this from 4 p.m then finally put him to his crib by 7 or so and he will sleep straight for 10 hours to 11 hours sometimes including feeding him. But during day ,nap time is hard usually during feeding and burping sometimes he fall asleep but we can’t put him down or else he will start doing startled, so hard to see him cry because of that. I want him to soothe himself and not carrying him because I can’t do any chores specially during day time. I wish my son can wear same suit so he will feel secure when I put him to his crib but we live in Hawaii the weather is hot here.🙁

Hi new sub here :) I just want to say you truly are helping me thru this regression. Have not tried any of your tips and tricks yet but I know I definitely will in the next couple of weeks once baby turns 4 months. I just have a question for you or any moms out there.. is this kind of sleep training alright at this age considering they are still having trouble connecting sleep cycles? I'm a FTM just curious what others think.. My baby's adjusted age is 3 months old about to be 4 in 3 days but hit his regression early and we are still going thru it, nighttime is better (established a NB sleep routine) but is fighting his naps as he only wants to be held.

I get what you’re saying but Some parents just don’t have the mental capacity to deal with crying babies and no sleep every single night. Especially when there’s other kids that need to be looked after. With some people it just comes naturally with others it doesn’t. And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Everyone parents differently. A sleeping baby makes everyone happier including baby. In my eyes if a baby can settle themselves to sleep they are going to have parents who can also sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and are able to do more with baby. If baby is crying the entire night because they need cuddles to fall asleep, mum and dad are probably going to be doing the bare minimum that they can handle because they haven’t had sleep. I hope that makes sense, I’m tired 😂.
