@@harliemacdougall466 it's not really a love song though. it's about loving everyone, and caring about everyone, so much so its self destructive. like you want to do everything in your power to help people, and you forget to help yourself along the way. i like your perspective though, and maybe your in love with someone but I really dont have anyone so I dont really consider this a love song between 2 people. I considerate more a love song for everyone.
I got a two, and in my perspective I see at as 2s would do any to make their partner/friends, anyone they have a good connection with feel pleased happy anything that would give them a smile in their face. 2s would risk their own lives just to save another’s just to make them happy or feel alive. 2s are too nice they care people too much that they forget to take care of them selves that they would have the fear of losing control of their emotions. I’m a two I can certainly agree with this song and comments I really do care about people in my life they are them who make it keep going and they know them selves I’m thank full:)

I read something that hit deep; it said Twos love deeply and selflessly but that doesn't mean there aren't any conditions. There is only one. They don't always know about this condition, and they might deny it. But it's that they want to be loved back. They relate to this singer, but they want to be the audience, too.

The saddest parts of this song aren't the lyrics or the melody, it's the fact that I thought this was what love was. I thought love existed in self-destruction, in sacrifice without anything in return. I thought love was "no, I don't wanna talk about myself, tell me where it hurts" I thought it was "I just wanna build you up, build you up, 'til you're good as new and maybe one day I'll get around to fixing my self, too". This isn't love, it never was and that's the saddest part.

I think when most people first hear this song, they don’t initially position themselves as the singer. At first you kind of imagine that you are the one being sung to, especially with first lyric being a direct question. I think this is very intentional. I think it represents how “twos” want to be to others what they wish others were to them. They give to others what they never received themselves. And I think that’s pretty beautiful, but also a bit sad.
Agreed it is very beautiful and sad at the same time and it hurts twos when what they give to others is not reciprocated back to them. But yet they continue loving others anyway.
Just listened to the podcast that the artist has about the creation of this song (highly recommend btw-very very informative and fascinating!) But the song is meant as both how the twos give to others and as a love song back to twos as a reminder that they need to take care of themselves

My wife is a 2. This song describes her perfectly. I know how lucky I am to have her in my life. I may not have always been perfect throughout my life, but she loves me despite it. She lifts me to places I have never been before, and makes me feel a love like I have never felt in my life. She tells me I love her well, and I hope she is telling me the truth because she deserves to be treated well. She is light, love, hope, kindness, faith, empathy, humanity, and compassion. Every single day of her life. She is the warmth in my bones. I tell her everyday how much I appreciate her sensitive soul, and just how lucky I am to have her love me. I will tell her every single day until my last breath.
Some see a love song, I see a plea for help. I relate to the lyrics. Being so broken and unable to love yourself so you desperately build others up in hope of some sort of reciprocation happening. The part where the singer refuses to talk about himself hints at this disconnection happening inside him due to years of devoting everything unto others except himself. I am in love.
Well, that's the beautiful thing about songs like these. Some see a loving, devoted partner wanting to do everything to make sure their partner is happy. No matter what. Whereas some people see someone tearing themselves up to make someone shine brighter. I understand both and see both. This song is immaculate.
On the Enneagram test I'm a 2 and what you said is what I live threw all the time. I try finding self worth in helping others. To a point I became suicidal. I had to get professional help to be able to over come that. I still struggle finding the balance because its who I am to want to help people.

We seek validation in a way that if we can "fix" them, maybe one day we'll realize what is the solution to fixing our own problems ans hardships.

Eunice I feel like that line sounds sweet on the surface, but it’s actually talking about the person self sacrificing, for the other person to be okay, even if it comes at the expense of the other person’s oxygen, at the expense of that person not having enough for himself. which isn’t sweet or healthy. I interpreted this line as something maybe a not so healthy two might say, just because it’s something I absolutely believed in 100% before I realized it was actually damaging to put other people’s needs above your own.

It's wild how at the start of the song, I immediately put myself only in the singer's shoes. And it isn't until the 2:17 mark that I realized how much I wanted to be the person being sung to, as well. Ryan absolutely 1000% understood the assignment when creating these songs for each of the enneagram types, I am in tears thank u sir
Its fascinating to me how before the song starts, you can hear something is going on, rustling or taking a deep breath and the singer starts to sing. Shows how the singer, would drop everything to prioritise someone else, mentally and physically. The singer also uses a different tone or note when he sings about himself, it goes much quieter whenever he mentions himself. Some of the examples would be my own chest, put my mask on first, fixing myself too and to be loved myself. Like the singer has his own issues that he'd rather hide and keep secret about. Throughout the song, there is also a sense of exasperated? in the way the singer sings to his significant other. To tell and assure that they are loved, they are safe and that the singer would move heaven and earth for them. Exasperated in a good way? Idk the exact adjective to describe it. Like the feeling you get when you're explaining something to someone and getting so breathless and fired up but them being clueless still. And after the song ends, you can hear the singer releasing a breath or rustling about. Other songs on this project dont really have that bits left out, but I can be wrong. That last bit as if to indicate, the song has now end and the singer can take off their mask because during the song singer represses their emotions and feelings and basically put on masks to comfort others.
Each song in this series starts with the sound effect of someone in Ryan's life that matches up with the enneagram type that's being focused on. If I remember correctly the rustling at the start is his wife making a bed, as his wife is a Type 2.

Hey! As a type 2 in a healthy relationship, my advice is to go slow. Get to know the other person slowly, give yourself the time to think about the way you feel towards your potential partner. You can tell them straight up that you have a tendency to care for others and to put them before you and your well being. When you'll open up slowly to them, they'll be aware of the reason why you are doing that. Hopefully they'll respect your way of thinking. That will show honesty, transparency and emotional maturity on your part and respect on theirs. I think it's a blessing to be a type 2 because we have so much love to give to everybody, even to ourselves. We just need to find balance between the rest of the world and us, and learn that it's okay to be loved and allow other people to help us love ourselves. Be hopeful.
My advice, get to know yourself first, try to love yourself more... it ain’t easy... it took me 9 years.... i don’t want to get myself in relationship with a mindset I don’t need to be loved as much as i do for him...but after all those years you spent loving yourself, your true self is still there, and sometimes you love other people more than they do, and it hurts you, but as long as you remember that you need to be loved too, you will speak up to him/her, and the right person will give you all the love you need. I've always imagined myself as the singer, because when I'm cared for, I feel greedy, like I need to give back in some way and say thank you constantly, so eventually I just stopped being the receiver at all, two's are givers, sometimes to the point of exhaustion, they give until nothing is left, they dont fix themselves to focus on others, they believe that their problems aren't as a bad and therefore unworthy of being resolved, so they bundle it up and put it in the back of their heads, putting all their focus and fixating on someone else in need of help, to distract them from their own burdens. It isnt love, it usually is a distraction.
as a two dont really think its a distraction, i see giving as my way of giving other people what i so desperately wish for everyday: lots of pure straightfoward gentle love kindness and compassion
This reminds me of my grandma who passed away recently at 91, she survived two heart attacks, one at home and one in the hospital and then she died due to an untreated UTI. It went septic the day they sent her home. She was such a kind person and always had a beautiful smile, she put everyone way before herself and always thought the world of her family. I will never forget her. She was like a mother to me as she raised me unlike my biological mother, well my dad has always been there for me too. I’ll miss her so much, I spoke at her funeral and I broke down crying when I talked about how much I wanted to just wake up and see her in her chair again. I’ve been thinking about sharing my story to spread awareness on how hospitals treat the elderly.
i’m going to be completely honest i’m a 2 and i just realized how true this is for my friends i would stay up with them until 3am if i had too just to make them feel better but when i’m feeling sad no one rlly knows bc i don’t make a big deal of it and when i get home i sit here and cry and i check my phone and there r no messages so i’m just sitting there alone staring at my ceiling and wondering if anyone actually cares. ok so it is now been 6 months since i wrote that message but when i wrote that i was at a tough time in my life i had lost my grandma and grandpa and now that i’m looking back at all of these comments i realized ppl can relate... rn i am doing perfectly fine and some advice i can give to u guys is to find something that u feel passionate about and focus on that for me it was video game... thank you for reading and god bless u all

@Natalia Barnett it's a tough spot to be in when you give so much, but then feel like you don't receive any in return. Luckily, I've been focusing on how I can move forward. It's come to the point where I need to possibly get rid of a friend in my life who has been a big source of these issues. I had to talk with many people to realize that he was using me, and it wasn't healthy for me to give in all the time. Thank you, Natalia, for responding and offering to be someone I can vent to. I jokingly say “I’m a 2 in Recovery.” I had a dream awhile back… In it a friend and I were talking about a super stressful and upsetting thing I was experiencing. Though it was still happening in real life, the dream conversation was referring to it in the past tense. In the dream I asked my friend “Are you mad I didn’t tell you about X? Was I right or wrong to wait until it was over?” The friend looked at me and in grief said “You robbed us of the chance to love you.” I started sharing the situation with friends the next day. Really glad I did, they were a huge support and made things so much more bearable.
I definitely don't see this as a love song. As a 2, I hear this song for what it is; a desperate cry to be loved in the same way the singer loves other people. In most of my relationships, I'm the "helper". The "oh you're so great to talk to" the "you're such a good listener" and "wow, you're really good at giving advice". I've never really felt like I COULD open up to other people and feel needy. It's more a feeling of "as long as everyone else is happy and loved and healthy, that's what matters" but deep down you have this intrinsic need to just be wanted. No, this isn't a love song.

I feel really bad for people who are type 2, but I just can't stand being near them. I can't stand when someone tries to help others while they're broken to pieces. The worst is when they deny it. It just... breaks my heart. I can't just stay there and watch them smile as they crumble to ashes. I guess what I'm trying to say is... take care. We care about you too, even when we sound rude.

As someone who is not a 2 and having a wife that is a 2 I can say that you guys give that much love and attention (I'd say plenty of time uncall for and not needed) because you have an extra need to receive that loved back, you are loving the way you'd like to be loved back. Sadly the non 2 types out there dont have to that degree the need of love, apreciation and care, nor can we give it or are willing to. It's a priorities problem. We have to compromise, I do every now and then the extra loving thing for my wife because she really needs it and enjoys it, but I just can't do it or want to do it to the degree or frecuency she feels she "needs". Same way for her with my extra needs.

My lovely type two, You tend to love people like nobody else does. You really live to help us connect with our hearts. You are nurturing, emotionally inteligent and seriously, you are the embrace of all that is good in us. You understand people better than people understand themselves, you are empathetic, generous and supportive. You totally give yourself to your inner work, you minimise your needs and you give yourself away. I know it is devastating for you to acknowledge that you have needs but it is totally OK to admit that you crave love. It is time you realise that people around you appreciate and love you even though you do not. You need to understand that you have to love yourself as much as you love the others. I’m not a 2 but trying to help one.....Your note confuses me. I thought the pride of thinking they are the most loving is one of the issues of a 2? So why would it be helpful to tell them over and over that they are the most loving?
@@shelierichardson4165 because we are loving, and on our way to love everyone we forget to love ourselves. We don't actually realise how loving we are... we just do it. Of course, when we are toxic we do it for our self purpose, we love to get it back... but our aim is to be healthy and love just because we enjoy loving. Hope it helps!
I always view this song as somebody finding a person who’s recently gone through the same trauma as them. They’re experienced in how to feel better, so they take in this newly traumatized person and heal them with the thought that it will heal themself as well
I don't think we understand just how intensely unique the emotion of love is. To have such an unwavering attraction to another individual aside from yourself because they simply are them, is powerful. It's an honor to encounter this intense experience like no other. To think some deny this emotions existence, that it's a construct of society and economy.. No. It has been deep within human capacity since we reached this level of intelligence. And type twos just know how love works.
This is so accurate! Twos just want to make everyone around them happy because we feel this enormous empathy to all around us. But what we’re scared to admit is that we what that to and that feeling like nobody appreciates our help and devotion is suffocating

@@proto6086 Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is different for everyone who has it, but for me, my mind makes rigorous rules and systems that I have to follow, otherwise I fear I am going to get hurt. What I meant in my comment is that my mind makes a set of rules for how I can give and receive love, and if I don't follow through with the rules, I feel as though I am undeserving of love.
Me and my bf are both 2's and honestly we give our all for eachother but at the same time receive the same love we give, it balances out and honestly this is the happiest I've ever been in my life
My boyfriend is a two, I’m a six, and after listening to this song a couple times, I finally get the way he feels about me, it just took a while to get through my own self doubt in out relationship. This song was the ultimate call out I think I needed, my boyfriend of a few months introduced me to this artist so we can try to gain a better understanding of each other and from hearing these it helped us open up more and ever since he has been helping me break my unhealthy habits of keeping everything to myself. This makes me daydream of having someone there for me. A *best* friend. And I feel so, *so* good inside. But when the song ended I felt lonely. I am very glad I came across this so I could feel better even for a few minutes
I always saw the line “a mighty ocean or a gentle kiss” as “am I the ocean or a gentle kiss” and I feel both hit just as hard and really drive the point through. But gosh do I feel that at times where everything is crashing down or it feels like I can be tender with someone and make them feel better. When im an ocean, its time to help myself but only if others are ok too.
Despite being a two, I never connected with this song in the same way I did with some of the others. I think, for me, it rings almost hollow because I am deeply, personally aware of how much pride and resentment can linger under the surface of twos, how we wish that others would give us the same forethought and consideration we give to them. We feel selfish asking for it, and fear that we'll be rejected in our request while still being expected to provide it. I think maybe this is supposed to be showing the outer mask of placidity, with only the tiniest glimpses of the sadness and pain underneath- before that pain turns to anger.
Listening to the first verse, I thought this was a song that was meant to comfort type 2s like us and make us feel loved, and I bawled bc I was like this is exactly how I want someone to treat me. Then the comments made me realize that this is me, this is how I act towards others. It made me cry even more bc it made me realize I want the love I give others to be returned to me too, and how frickin lonely that sounds. I want to be loved the same way I love them. I know how it feels to feel like you're unloved and unappreciated so I tend to be that caring and funny friend bc I don't want them feeling the same way. And sometimes, I have this little hope that they'll do the same thing for me. But yanno, there are some who just take it for granted. I just need someone.

One of the hardest things is giving all of your love and even when they say they love you you still want more. You want more love more acceptance just more all because you feel empty because you don’t love yourself.

That is the basic definitiom of an enneagram 2: giving and loving, but pathologically unable to ask for help, and constantly trying to earn love instead of believing that it can be given. Love has no specific explanation. I mean it will be different for each one's perspective. If he/she thinks this is love, it's love. U can call it "not" if u hurt someone. But in this case, he/she expresses love by letting someone do that makes them happy.

As a two, I can attest that this is incredibly accurate. And.... it's heart-wrenching to hear my own personality spelled out by this musical master, with simple yet profound lyrics and beautiful instrumentation... love this song so much.
I know it’s supposed to be about people with the personality type 2, but this song feels comforting. It feels like someone actually cares about you. I keep coming back to this song and I cry every time. It’s sad because they (perspective of the singer) sound so selfless and I want to be there for them too.
That means everything to us twos because this is exactly what we want to do for other people so when a song we are supposed to relate to helps you be comforted it makes my day. I love you random internet stranger.
I think it’s comforting for a reason, type 2’s lean to be like that supposedly- when I listened to the song (I’m a 2) I really felt like the words were something I’d say and I agree with the other comment that it makes us feel appreciated that you are comforted by something we relate so heavily to in the way we try to be :)) much love
I think that’s part of the message. Because in the end it’s what Type 2s want for the people they love. They want nothing more than to see their loved ones happy, content, safe, and cared for. Even if the 2’s own life feels like its shearing apart, seeing their “people” happy and safe is a form of catharsis.
But the truth is type 2s only love and don’t accept love in return because we know that we’d only feel disappointed when the other person cant return the love equally so we are fine with just giving it when they need it. Even if we yearn for it, the least painful and disappointing route has always been to just give without expectations.
My mom is a two. And there is nothing more encouraging than growing up with a TRULY selfless mom🤍 I can truly say without a doubt, I want to be like my momma when I grow up. She has been such a great example to me and I hope to even be half the mom she is when I’m a mom🥺
When I was younger I truly believed love and self destruction went hand in hand. I didn't understand why I would get so drained from helping and supporting others. My art consisted of dark themes, mostly of me drowning while others were being held above the water by me. Now I know how to love and be loved. Love isn't destruction, love is creation.

I'm a mix of two and three. Someone who would give their life to help someone, when they're just as tired and burnt out as them. Two is how we try to help and love people, how we would give it our all just to even make they're day slightly better, whilst three is like the same burnt out person trying to find a reason to be loved themselves. I'm only 12, but I've been told so many great things about how I can draw, which is basically my talent. I've written a book, I've won several art competitions, I've done so many things, but I never felt it was good enough. I've done so many things that sometimes I think maybe I've done enough. Like a comment I saw in the three video: "This song is the definition of gifted kid burnout". I've been told so many good things about how much I've achieved, but sometimes I just really question if I'm worthy of that love anyway. Am I just seen for my talent? My 'gift'?, not for truly who I am as a person? But then, I'm also a two. Two's are caring. They're kind, sweet and nice as a person. I've been torn between being that kid good at art and that nice kid that helps everyone. It's like two sides of me, fighting. I found two first. It was in an animation video I was watching, and the lyrics really hit home. I listened to the song, and then three came up. And it broke me. 'You're golden child grew up' 'maybe I've done enough" "maybe this trophy isn't real love" "worthy of love anyway?" "Its so exhausting" Hit me hard. Basically the whole song did, both two and three. It's hard being almost two completely different people on the Enneagram. But two and three's are practically made for each other. Three questions if they're worthy of love, but two still gives it to them. Sorry for the long rant, just wanted to get it out. "i just want to build you up 'til you're good as new and maybe one day, i'll get around to fixing myself too" this line really hits me. i'm often seen, by the people close to me, as the one they can come to for advice, or a shoulder to cry on, and although i am more willing to offer that, it's exhausting holding everbody elses problems on your shoulders. on top of this, i don't easily share mine -i don't want to be a problem. and so, people assume i'm fine. i put all my energy into other people, but give none to myself. this song is a piece of art and really strikes a chord with me.
I can relate to this so much. I was always there for everyone and asked nothing in return... the only time I asked for help when I was afraid and alone my friends told me they did not know what to say to me and walked away... That’s exactly me too, I was always the counsellor to my friends. The nice, trustworthy guy that could help you out of hard times. My worries for others and my unrealistic attempts to help them, it all came crashing down on me, but I couldn’t stop trying to help, because I knew that they depended on me to be okay. Due to this, I dropped into a low point in my life, and I couldn’t get out, because every time I tried, the weight would pull me down again. This song describes my exact feelings during this time.

Dear Aesthedits_xo, I'm a 2 too. I know what that feels. We are helpers, we are needed, but more than that, we are loved for who we are, and not for what we give to others. You are an amazing person, and I sincerely hope someday you will see it. Trust me, you want to be a 2. If you want to be able to help people and to love them in a way they deserve to be helped and loved, you need to give that love to yourself. I like how the song's real subject isn't evident. It sounds like it's about the person Two is trying to help but in reality it's about Two's innermonologue about how they want to help others but have to put their own agenda on the shelf first and put on the 'mask' that they don't need to be helped, that they're the ones who help others. My dearest Two's... You deserve to have someone help you too. A wall cannot protect others without being mended every so often.

Y’all, I’m not gonna lie- I SOBBED HARD when I first heard this. The first part felt like it was being told to me- the next felt like it was me telling others. This was beautiful and tragic all at the same time. And I felt it deeply. It’s exhausting being a serving 2 and fixing everyone and forgetting about yourself, but at the same time it’s so fulfilling to help. It’s an ugly cycle. But again “I will love you without a single string attached”.

this is also exactly how i felt. i was sitting in class waiting for the professor to arrive when i first heard this song and i cried SO hard i had to fix myself up before she came. this song speaks to me on a whole other level that my heart wrenches every time i listen to it. it's like being the person who always gives and gives and gives so much love to other people but receives little to nothing in return.

I took the test and got 2w1. And this song really reflects my personality to a point that it scares me. Being too caring can be so self-destructive and we just wish for someone to take care of us as much as we take care of others. But we give too much of ourselves and never receive anything in return, making us feel lonely by the end of the day.
