Today’s video is on small farm finance. It’s not so much on how my finances are, but on the system I use for both personal and business income. Dave Ramsey’s plan is the way to go for beginning farmers. I have had success following the baby steps.

Excellent message. As a 60 year old farmer I was blessed to know and work with a couple farmers that preached saving, having a goal of being debt free and a plan. I've tried share that message, you did a great job.

The lesson here is you took action. That’s probably the hardest step when people feel overwhelmed, but Dave Ramsey gives a good place to start. Thanks always for the videos!

Good message! You did a very good job explaining this! I was raised as a Dave Ramsey kid and and i believe in cash for everything! I started a with small farm and grow to more then I can handle ( having a full time job already). When you have a debt free farm you don’t have to answer to the bank, don’t have to worry about making payments and you know where u stand financially at all times, great video and keep up the great work!

Really love these narration videos you’ve been doing lately! Always love hearing your advice and seeing your equipment at work. I would also like to see more slide show videos from your old farm operation our more story time videos from your days on the dairy farms. Also if you are wondering the tractor in my profile photo is a Steyr 86 (one cylinder)

This was great info! Our situations are somewhat similar- now that I am older I really hate debt, and while we do have a 30 acre farm (that were are paying a mortgage on), it is not big enough to farm full time or sustain my family if my kids decided to farm when they are older. We lease 3 other farms in the area, and the biggest one of the three, the owner is getting older and has mentioned selling at some point. We would love to buy the place, but don't know what he will ask for it yet so it may not be in our budget. If we lose that farm, I am not sure what that means for my farming career....
@PAFarms
@PAFarms 3 года назад
To be honest my goal is 100% down on a farm someday. I don’t like the thought of a mortgage. It will take saving for years but it’s not completely impossible.

I'm kinda in that situation currently, I currently have a loan on someequipment but I now have the equipment to manage a beef herd, my next step is to sell my current acreage pay off my debts and start back over with a bigger property and the equipment to manage it. Going forward I'm planning to continue on dave's steps.

I farm about 170 acres give or take ( some is county land and they just want the grass cut once a year so no rent and unsure of acres) I own 50 acres witch 20acres is pasture for my small beef herd , that 50 acres I paid cash for has a small barn for the cattle the house needs work but I find it livable and fix as I go the rest is hay ground , the rest of my land is rented witch is corn ,beans and I rotate wheat ,oats and barley, I own the most of the equipment but have it harvested ....I totally agree debt is no good best of luck to all no matter the business

2018 with all the rain we got an I had no emergency fund and debt that did not care if I had a good year or bad year, making payments.... made me sick. Best of luck to you, thanks for the view
@timgeissler6045
@timgeissler6045 3 года назад
My emergency fund ends up being cattle ... One thing people do not think about is if you own land there is land tax to worry about for example where I live in Wisconsin my parents 2 acres house, pole shed is nothing fancy and it costs $1200 a year before any mantance to the property I won't get in to my little slice of paradise because I am not sure because I have made improvements ... But that is why I like renting land rather then owe the bank and then have another payment on said land it's just resorse smart

Read that book cover to cover a few years back and I already agreed with him mostly except that I exploit the credit cards for their 3-5% cash back on fuel and food that I would be buying regardless. If you're disciplined, you can pretend that you're handing over the hard money that he argues (very well) makes it easier to save and harder to spend more. I grew up on a 4th generation dairy in NE Ohio very similar to the one you made the 3 part video on, that we used until we got the Deans-Walmart letter in 2018. Just bought a small hay/beef farm around the corner from the parents farm and enjoy your content and insignts. Keep on keeping on!

Great video. Thanks for the ag version of the baby steps. I also farm and work a full time job off farm . Going at the speed of cash is best. I had some debts on farm equipment, before hearing of the baby steps. I now have it all paid off . Again you did a great job explaining it . If more farmers would work this way things would get better for them not just deeper in debt,and putting money away for retirement instead of that new tractor that the account said to buy cause they made money this year . God bless
