Adam, really enjoyed your awesome video! I wish I could explore abandoned buildings and go to old cemeteries and Churches! I'm getting caught up on your awesome vlogs.
When I was a child my parents moved our family to Virginia for one year because of Dad's line of work. On my 1st day of Virginia school at school lunch a kid asked me, "Do you like hushpuppies?" & my response was, "I don't like one particular brand of shoe." *Thom McCann"s hushpuppy shoes were what I believed this kid from Virginia was asking me, a little yankee girl.
In Puerto Rico back in my childhood years, Thom McCann’s shoes were very popular. I remember that in the 80s when the young pop group called Menudo was super famous, the brand created what they called “The McCannudos shoes. Good times! 😊
These are some of the greatest types of videos on RU-vid, rural American towns that are not often seen and are falling by the wayside. These are the places that 99% of us will never see and keeping the memories of these long forgotten towns is important in historical context. Keep them up and continue to make these types of videos off the beaten path. It’s one of the most intriguing and amazing kinds of content
Good morning Adam 😊 love these small towns and back roads, this is your best when it comes to the towns forgotten, you don't see from the highway or when your in the City. The small towns needs to be seen not heard lol. Thanks for sharing this. Stay safe.😎📸👍
As a New England native I’ve worked, done business in and visited so many buildings like those you’ve visited the last few days. As you walk around I can hear and even smell the wood that makes up these buildings. Than you so much for bringing these great memories back!
Side note: The train tracks in Clifton Forge were the ones featured in REM’s video “Driver 8” from their earlier years. You should stop in the New River Valley. Home to Virginia Tech, our beloved Virginia Tech Memorial for those lost in 2007, The Smart Road, The Resort and primary filming location for Dirty Dancing, The Mary Draper Ingles home, the Draper Meadow Attacks, Floydfest, The Lewis-McHenry Duel which was the catalyst for outlawing dueling in Virginia, etc…. There’s tons of history hidden at every turn, along with some great places to eat and venture out to. Highly recommend coming to a VT game as well….. Enter Sandman starts and the stadium registers on the richter scale from the amount of people jumping. Safe travels my friend
11:49 : that's a sticker for the 94th Fighter Squadron. One of the oldest units of US air power first established in WW1, based out of Langley, VA. They had F15s from the mid 70s, and have transitioned to the F-22. That sticker is probably from the Cold War days. Nice find 👍
Virginia!! We lived in Lynchburg for 5 years in the 70's! Beautiful countryside and history everywhere. Charlottesville has Thomas Jefferson written all over it with Monticello, UVA, ...great colonial southern meal at Michie Tavern....cool area. His summer home, Poplar Forest, is actually in Lynchburg and is open to visitors. Enjoy whatever you do in VA....I know we will enjoy watching!
We just got back from Virginia Monday. Were moving to Roanoke from St. Louis in a few weeks. We have fallen in love with Virginia! So beautiful there and so much history! We look forward to exploring all over the state. I enjoyed the tour today! 😊
Can you visit danville, Virginia. Small town with history of Dan river mills and Davis storage. Also just opened a casino. Would love to see footage more of the blue ridge mountains and Carolina’s as well. Love your channel !!!
Some missed historical sites missed in Lexington, VA. V.M.I. Virginia Military Institute The Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson house Stonewall Jackson's grave Robert E. Lee chapel (where he is also laid to rest) Robert E. Lee's horse Traveller is buried outside the chapel.
Virginia really does have some beautiful places! This trip has really been fun! You drove by us on your way south. Next time you're in the NY area, it might be worth a short stop in my home town as part of a road trip. Lots of history, famous residents, and several filming locations that haven't been vlogged by anyone yet. I'd be happy to give you the tour! 🙂
Ah, Virginia. My home state. No mater where I go, part of my heart and soul will always be there. Beautiful state ❤️ Lots to see and do in Virginia especially if you like history.
Oh man, what a great mini getaway this was. Thank you Adam and Brittany (sp?) for taking us along, I felt like I was right there exploring with you guys today, admiring the red brick, looking through the holes in the floor, wanting to peel off that Apple Computer sticker, stomping through the crunch of those leaves, feeling the temperature drop underneath that bridge and then hearing the trains in the distance while looking up at that statue with the eyes that follow... 👀 When you go back to that Jefferson School for an eventual update, please consider going on that adorable little steamer train for us too! 🥰
When driving from Sleepy Hollow to Waynesville, NC, most of my similar route goes along I-81 which is the most scenic around and have been by Clifton Forge. ENDLESS CAVERNS has a new sign. I miss Foamhenge at the Natural Bridge. Imagine how history would have changed had Stonewall Jackson not been killed by friendly fire. I had a car exactly like that! I wish you could have gone back to that Mom & Pop Camera Shop in Stoughton where you found the light saber. I hope it's still there. When walking through these old buildings you can feel and hear how life there was. Watch out for old floor tiles peeling up. Don't disturb them because they are backed with asbestos! 3.5" floppies! How about 5 1/4" floppies? Great video, thanks.
Great day of exploring, now I will say that I thought some of the places you went to looked pretty darn shady and I would be nervous walking around because they just didn’t look structurally sound but the old nostalgia really made for a great look, so yea I loved the day it was so much fun and also I thought your friend was very pretty now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome vlog adventure peace ☮️ out ✌️
The gate on the hallway is for after school functions to keep visitors out of the academic areas. After school functions would be like boy scout meetings, girl scout meetings, pto meetings etc.
Virginia is so beautiful. I was born there and came back for High School. My Dad was a Marine. Met my longest friend there when we were freshman. I miss you still dear Mary. Blessings continue on your family ❤
Whew, Sleepy Hollow to Lexington is one long drive. The Goshen Pass is nice this time of year with the leaves changing and you were not too far from it. Eagle Rock is an interesting place too.
Asbestos remove em ! While you and Brittany were walking through that old school school building I said man I bet there’s alot of asbestos in that place then conjoined it with my favorite woo-ism ever from the wildest ride in the wilderness.
When you said you were driving for a while at the end of yesterday's video, I was not expecting Virginia today! Just sitting down to view now, looking forward to it!
Hi Adam, Love these videos of the old buildings. Love that you drank the water … Maybe the fountain of youth and you stay 49 forever 😂🥰 at least some blessings 🙏🏻
Jefferson turning in his grave over those grade records on the floor like trash. Trillion dollars for satellites to watch America rot...no money to maintain this building/ town/ citizens.
Regarding “Mr. Earl”… my aunt is a retired elementary school principal. In 1994 she went to an education convention in Orlando and brought back these nice tote bags (I think everyone at the convention got them) and on one side it had a cartoon picture of Mr. Earl on it that said “I met Mr. Earl…”. Myself and others in my family used that bag for years and always called it the Mr. Earl bag. Always wondered who he was and found a little bit online that it’s something to do with fundraising for school. I might even still have the bag if I can find it. It’s so weird after all these years seeing “Mr. Earl” in your video
Coming across that bridge, i can see the boys coming in the distance from the movie Stand By Me.I love the walking of the crunchy leaves.Iam glad you are there now i would imagine in a couple of months there would be a lot of snow in those parts. As always another great video.Take care from Universal Jamie.
Hey from Virginia! I attended a Primary school which was kindergarten to 2nd grade in a school similar to the one at Clifton Forge. Our school had a double staircase to the 2nd floor. It was beautiful. We had to walk outside to the cafeteria. The county torn it down years ago to build a county complex. What a shame. The school was expanded in 1920 but I can't seem to find out when it was actually built. Pretty cool.
Hi Adam Great adventure The one thing I liked about your early adventures you always showed your friends IE Ginger equal to you now everything has evolved around you which we have all seen for over 10 years Like to have different faces tks
I don't think I've ever been to Clifton Forge Virginia. And I live in Virginia. But in the Winchester area. You're going to come back up this way, Adam? Lot to see in Winchester. A lot of cool sites.
Such beautiful country. I haven't watched the video yet.. off to work. But when I drove through it from Canada, I couldn't believe the country side...just amazing. Hills and bush/trees all over the place. If I'm not mistaken..there were tunnels on the highway?...I think it was Virginia. Went in forever. Loved it.
You’re in my neck of the woods! I’m in Lynchburg and I know you’ve been through here before. Lots of neat things to see around here. If you need any ideas let me know. (Iron Gate has a place called the Rusty Hinge).
Oh man, Adam. I know you like old trains and you're going to kick yourself to find out you just missed a huge opportunity. The J611, a large steam engine built in 1950 with a streamline look was moving from Goshen, VA down to Roanoke that very day. A very short drive from Clifton Forge and Lexington. But, glad you got to check out Clifton Forge. I was involved in the Masonic Theater renovation, so I got to spend a little time downtown, including where the creek goes under the town.
Adam needs to stop at downtown Greenville, SC. The city covered a big waterfall there with a highway for almost a century. Now restored & a beautiful tourist attraction.
