You both, Dan & Mick, just add a deeper dimension to my life. As a busy widower with 3 children here in Southern California. The free time is rejoiced in it's full extent by pausing from my activities and soaking in your knowledge on pedals etc....a treat! Thank you. Blessings to you all!

Thanks for sharing with all of us what this experience was like for you and how it affected your playing. While I too always watch these shows with my best headphones, I know that experience can't possibly compare to what your experiencing in the room. I especially appreciate what you said about how the sound influenced what you felt inspired to play and how it actually freed you up to go places you don't normally go to musically. I think that was the strongest testament I have heard for how a great sound can influence your playing and overall enjoyment of it. Glad the guys got together with you there.

Before TPS I’d never heard of a wet/dry rig. I wasn’t one for stereo, so I just ran all effects into one amp. It was fine, but I just never felt I was getting the ‘most’ out of my modulation or time domain effects... because I had to keep the mix down to get clarity. Now- each pedal is performing at its peak, and the clarity doesn’t suffer. It also somehow allows my drive pedals to sound so much fuller!!!!! Thank you guys for steering me towards the best sound I’ve ever gotten... and also giving me reason to buy a couple more amps!!!!! 😉 Cheers!!!!!!

About the gear-making-you-play-better/different point: Ever since I started guitar about a decade ago, I was primarily a metal player with the occasional drifting into punk rock at most. However, in the last year or so I started playing around with different sounds and amps in my Axe-Fx III (sorry, can't afford fifty tube amps worth 2000 quid each) and I can now pretty much say I am a blues player more than a metal player. My vocabulary is rather intermediate but each day I spend playing tweed amps, blackfaces, and other boutique amp models, I am discovering blues playing that I never knew I had in me. Of course, watching you guys makes it even more fun to play a whole genre that I didn't dare touch before this. (I discovered your channel at pretty much the same time as I started playing those different amp models, so there is definitely a correlation there.)

Mick pro tip for the belle epoch deluxe. If you open it up there is a switch to change it from true bypass mode to trails mode. When in trails mode the bypass switch essentially cuts the signal going into the “record head” so your dry signal is still running through that buffer and you don’t have a sudden phase flip.

@jimmytreatchestnut5860
@jimmytreatchestnut5860 5 лет назад
@@ThatPedalShow Yes, delays are digital, but I think that delays and some moduation that split the signal, don't effect on the "true analog tone" so much. For dinamic effects it's different. It's only my humble opinion, but if something sounds good other stuff doesn't matter. Guitar, pedals, effects, amps, are a help to get inspired, but on this way there are an evil enemy: preconceptions

It's interesting to me to see real musicians discovering the wet/dry phenomenon. My second pedal was a Lehle P-Split, which instantly solved the decades-old problem of trying to forbear the tone of cheap amp-shaped-objects. It happened I had a couple of Little Labs IBPs around from a kick drum project I had worked on, so I've been able to work on the phase issues with digital latency and just squeezing speakers together in an un-lined-up array. Currently working up an eight-channel monster rig, though I can't really imagine a practical use for it. Just pushing out the boundaries. 🎸🔊🚀💸

Finally sitting down to watch this on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and an ascending arpeggiated lick that Dan played reminded me instantly of a classical guitar part I adore on the album of a Japanese voice actress whose work I admire, Hiroko Kasahara. I don.t know the name of the guitarist who played on the album, "Madrigal", but it struck me in a way I"d never before considered how the experience of listening to music is an intimately individual experience influenced by all the music we"ve heard in the past. There are probably not a lot of other fans of TPS who have ever heard that album, let alone own it, and so I may very well be the only person to feel something like what I felt hearing Dan play that lick. Isn"t music marvelous?

Yeah, bit of a PiTa that. Really depends what you want the looper to do/reproduce. I would have it after all the pedals before the wet amp. So that it reproduces everything, I put into it. If you can decide what you want it to reproduce, you can put it in the right spot...

Really enjoyed this episode, great example of using a smaller pedal board for a short trip away, fantastic playing by Mick at the end, he was really getting into it!, ultra cool grooves 😁

I haven't looked at how much those board boxes cost...afraid to look! But I do have some cabinetry skills, so perhaps I'll build one for myself custom, and post it on Instagram or something ... then of course there's the pedals! Thankfully I have a few of those, but I don't have a controller like a Gig Rig... yet! This could get expensive but I would bet it would be endless hours of fun and bragging rights of having a killer board like what you guys have! Thanks again for sharing ... you two are the Dynamic Duo of pedals! More episodes wearing capes please! I'd but that T-shirt!!! 😎🎸

Damn big headed strats are cool!

Sounds fab. The eight pointed screw thingy would be a Torx screw. Apologies if that has already been pointed out. Would be good to hear some humbuckers through that. On which topic the JEM has been conspicuous by its absence. Perhaps you would be more comfortable with a superstrat from Charvel or Suhr!

Just not our thing Mark. I play some Gibson humbuckers at the end..:

@@ThatPedalShow No worries and quite right about the Gibson humbuckers, I commented before watching the whole thing. Still a brilliant video though.

Your show is great. Really enjoy the tech stuff and your work arounds.. It would be really helpful if you had at the end of each of your pedal board builds, like this one, "Wet/Dry build",. A block diagram of how you wired the pedals from input to output. Most folks get it but it would be great just to see your design and that way we get a little bit more in your heads.. Thanks, :Les

Thank you very much for responding to my note. I actually did not expect a direct reply and you impressed me again. Just a little history here. I spend many hours watching your shows from my hotel rooms when I am touring. I have built a few small boards and I seem to have become a victim of pedal mania. (I am officially a pedal geek). This is a little odd since my music roots are in the acoustic domain. I founded a music group you might have heard about in the past from your grand fathers,, (Ok maybe your fathers), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I use my pedal board with my octave mandolin and my double bass. When I tour I play the early music that my band buddy John McEuen and I played when we started the band. I have to confess that the pedal board is used in my more contemporary band that plays pretty everything from bluegrass to swing to ????? We would be considered on the edge of acoustic music.. Too much fun.. and that is what it is suppose to be ... at least for me. Your show keeps me centered, grounded, and just very open minded about what is on the Dark Side. Love it. take care and keep them coming.. Les Thompson, NGDB and String Wizards. (touring right now with John McEuen and the String Wizards.
