SMILE (2022) - Movie Review! 

To me it was pretty terrifying. It’s like nightmare on elm street meets it follows. It gathers its strength through trauma, just like Freddy. And if you really think about it, this thing is always with her, watching, waiting… and that’s terrifying. It makes her feel crazy, then breaks her down mentally. And then kills her by possessing the body and killing itself like a parasite. Like it’s totally possible this is a parasite that is airborne. It makes the host thinks that it’s crazy, forces the host to see things that aren’t real, and then takes over the mind.

the happening has to be the funniest horror/thriller movie to me, mark wahlberg trying to reason with fake plants is hilarious

Just watched it, I think it was really good. The storyline for me was great. It was really suspenseful, ending was getting goofy but quickly had a turn at the end. Not a bad movie

I think John's being a little hard on the movie overall. Is it a masterpiece? Not really. But is it better than "hokey, cheesey, shlockfest that's mildly entertaining?" Yes, it is. The acting was one of the greatest strengths of the film, and the pacing of the storyline was almost perfect- I felt swept along in her journey and completely empathized with her and what she was going through, and it made me ask those questions about how would I act if I was in her shoes? Very interesting themes interwoven with trauma, loss and mental health as well. I'd give it 7.9/10.

I thought the first half was very scary and entertaining. The second half kinda became repetitive and the ending felt force. But overall, this movie is really good

Amazon, with its smile logo on its boxes, should have partially funded 'SMILE' or at least had some Amazon packages in a few shots. :)

Yes! I don’t think it holds up to the films it derives from but it’s still pretty decent. I’m Assuming Parker grew up on some of those inspirations . Smile also reminded of Fallen with Denzel Washington

6/10 - A good film but it weakened towards the end - It should have been condensed to 90 minutes.

I'd say this movie Is a mixture of the ring, it follows and the grudge. It dosent hold the most unique plot. Someone's curse following them, certain time limit to stop the curse and figure out the mystery to it with a bunch of well delivered jump scares that build up tension. I'd put it in the running for creepiest horror movie of the year. Not the best, not the best written, not one with a unique plot. But If your goal is to go to a movie theater and get In a few solid scares This movie definitely delivers

Thank you for being the only person to not praise the movie lol. I saw the film in Dolby and it was a BIG mistake; all those false jumpscares were driving me fucking crazy, heightened by the LOUD speakers, it made the movie almost unwatchable for me cause I was getting mentally and physically annoyed by the poor script and lame jumpscares every minute of the movie.

I watched it tonight and I've never seen a horror film like this address the cycle of trauma before. I think a review would be remiss to not mention the overall moral to the story which is the contagion of trauma. A very unique take on the subject.

Don't waste your time. Watch "Fallen" from 1998, which this movie shamelessly robs from by changing JUST enough to not be plagiarism. Now that movie is pure psychological terror. Massively underrated.

I saw The Munster’s. And it’s gawd awful. I did like the makeup on the Nosferatu character at the beginning though. And I appreciated that they gave an origin story to their pet under the stairs. But otherwise, it’s just awful.

Why is smiling scarier than frowning?

I disagree. I found the movie to have a compelling story that was well-executed. I also found the jump scares split evenly with tension building in many scenes. The soundtrack was the best strength and the greatest weakness. While the dissonance imbued a heavy sense of fear, it telegraphs a lot of scares. It took me 10 to 20 minutes to calm down after the movie was done. Finally, I also saw some meaning in regards to mental illness and trauma, making people vulnerable to our greatest fears. The film seems to convey the deterioration from a healthy mental state to one of insanity. I think this was accented by the unique and often inverted camera angles. Perhaps it was a statement about the horrid mental state in the United States over the last three years. I gave it a 4.5/5.

The more I think about the movie, the less I like it. The director/screenwriter just stole a lot of stuff from other horror movies and didn't really make anything new or interesting or surprising with them. The horror aspect was just filled with dumb jumpscares and there really wasn't any actual tension. You're just preparing for a loud sound effect. The CGI monster at the end was more funny than scary. Was anyone else reminded of the giant Pennywise-grandma from It Chapter Two? 😅

The demons where playing that music to scare John because they are scared to come out if he is around, John is all fuck around and find out

At first, I thought it was a sequel to "Truth Or Dare."

I actually thought this was mediocre as well. It's not horrible, but not a masterpiece like some reviews have made it out to be. Barbarian is the better of the 2 films out right now.

This review was very harsh. Never once was this movie unintentionally funny at all. This film had a great consistent creepy tone to it with great jump scares and great creepy sounds. And it all built up to an ending that really unsettled me!! Smile is a great movie to me! One of the best horror films of the year!

What is the most unintentionally funny horror movie I have ever seen? Wes Craven's "SHOCKER". Wait, maybe it was Wes Craven's "Deadly Friend" .. .nah the ending of "Shocker" had me and the whole audience I was with watching it laughing and shaking out heads as we were walking out. BUT at least Shocker was entertaining! As was Deadly Friend. Deadly Friend was strange because it had horror moments that were obviously forced in, you could just tell. Basketball to the face = HEAD EXPLODE! Shocker was great from Mitch P's performance! And others like the little girl. I don't mean to down WC he's very talented.

CONGRATULATIONS John, you only saud the wird "movie" 15 times in this video, which (sincerely) was a great effort and I am guessing that you have seen some of my previous comments where I have pasted the word movie about 500 times and asked you to stop saying that word and at least use the word film or the title of the film which you are now doing, so thanks heaps because it Waa horribly grating hearing "movieeee" saud 500 times in one of your videos. I think you are absolutely fantastic my advice to you is to really go full time at this channel and make it the best it can be because you seem to disappear for a while the John you are great and this so much to like about you and you are so marketable as well so please mate set yourself a schedule and stick to that schedule to get videos out every week and your real funny guys to do more skits and stuff.

i liked it quite a bit honestly- i had only seen bits of the trailer aside from the first teaser- sure somethings were borrowed, but I felt they were used effectively and the scares were not every five minutes.... they were placed pretty far apart for me.

Overall I really thought it was okay. I was completely alone in the theatre so that in itself was completely terrifying with the sound design. I was constantly looking around. Only complaint: way too many jumpscares.

I've heard the It Follows comparisons a lot, and I get it, but this scared me like 10,000x more than It Follows tbh. It Follows had a lot of great things about it, but the lore was so fucking inconsistent and the ending was so lame that I don't know why that still has as strong as a cult following. imo Smile>>>>

The trailer made this movie look so laughable.

Worst movie of the year, it can't even be called a horror film. It Follows and Truth Or Dare lazily mashed into one movie. It's a shameless ripoff at best. All attempts at being scary were met with laughter rendering it an unintentional comedy. No one in the theaters could take it seriously including myself. This film is definitely for tiktokers and casual movie goers, not for hardcore horror fans such as myself.
