I challenge you to a buff flexing contest with occasional duelling.
Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3299/
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 1000 → 2500
- Mazan → Dervish (Light force damage + lowers evasion)
I said it was possible, I didn't say it was quick. If you've been following the channel updates you'll know that my original strategy centred around getting Anti-Phys via skill change - possibly twice due to Slime's poor HP. After several hours of trying for it and going through nearly every other possible skill multiple times, I began to lose hope that it was even possible, but then I got Dekaja for like the third time and had a brain wave.
The idea is to deny Matador of turns by always removing his buffs and keeping a debuff on him at the same time. He has one of the most eager buff scripts in the game, and if you keep this up he will pretty much always spend one of his turns on either Red Capote or Dekunda - especially during the 2nd phase. This frees you from the horror of double Andalucia or double Taunt, both of which generally signal incoming doom.
It's slow, it's expensive on the Chakra Pots and it isn't a guaranteed win (mainly due to Focus, there's a pretty tense moment towards the end) but ultimately I managed to muddle through.
Choronzon and Aeros were made intentionally via fusion accident, which allows you to get demons up to 4 levels above Demi Fiend's level. This isn't quite as dumb as it sounds. The key is to minimise the amount of RNG involved. Firstly I set it up so they could ONLY inherit the skills I wanted them to have, meaning if I pulled an Aeros while trying for him he'd always have the right moves. Then I filled out my demon roster. You can't pull any demons you already have in your lineup, or the one the fusion would normally result in, which immediately rules out 9 of the 17 available demons from the potential result. So, every 1/8 fusion accidents becomes the demon you want with the desired skillset (in theory... in actuality, Slimes and Pretas are suspiciously common, but that's just the way the hee ho's.)
