Introducing the SNAIL friction hitch, was is a creation by yours truly, ‪@Knot-orious‬ , and named by one of my subscribers, ‪@j-jlevy‬, who won a contest I ran a little over two weeks ago (on March 15, 2024) where I asked my viewers to pick a name for this friction hitch that will stick with it for eternity!
Congratulations to ‪@j-jlevy‬ ! Thank you for supporting my channel and for providing such a unique and interesting name! I definitely see the resemblance that this hitch has to a snail! Very creative and fun! Thank you to everyone else who participated in the contest! I really appreciate your enthusiasm for my channel!

Looks pretty good. I think I would start with the overhand before wrapping the coils.

Thanks! Go for it! Tie it whichever way works best for you! I've always had a long standing habit of tying most of my hitches starting from the top and then moving towards the bottom. Thanks for commenting!

I prefer the AT prusik easy to tie and more versatile !!

Is that a friction hitch? I've never hear of that one before. Do you know of any videos that show how to tie it?

Yes, I created, developed and tested this friction hitch, which is definitely classified as a knot! If you dress and set the knot correctly, and use it correctly, yes, it is safe for climbing and life support/rigging applications!

As a matter of fact, I tried it with 5 and 6 wraps, and used my van to tug on it. Didn't move... stable as F.

@@j-jlevy Nice! Great to see someone stress testing my hitch! Not surprised! That would create a total of 7 to 8 wraps between the primary and secondary stages. Definitely not going to budge when tied like that! =-D

It seems to me that three loops on top will hold together a bit better. Have less separation between the segments of the knot. You might call that, "Snail lite". 😄 Thank you for the video! 👍

I would recommend that you only remove a wrap from the coil of you find that four wraps generates too much friction. Not sure that it would reduce separation between the two stages, but it's possible! Thanks for your comment! 😁
