It's awesome that this was in a Methodist church, because traditional Methodism held to many Catholic beliefs about our blessed Mother and the Saints. It's not now off the table entirely, but shoved into a corner because "too much is idolatry". (I say this as an ex-methodist) Awesome work, man

To think Jesus is using “woman” as a disparaging term is to say Jesus dis-honored His mother, consequently calling Jesus a sinner!! We never cease to learn but to ignore what the culture was during Christ’s time and to think that calling your mother “woman” makes her less or a disrespectful term is to not know that back then it signified totally the opposite!!

I was always confused by that when I was younger but I think it’s because we don’t use it in the same way today that they did back then. As most words and meanings change throughout time.

Psalms‬ ‭45:9-17 “Kings' daughters were among thy HONORABLE women: upon thy right hand did stand the QUEEN (Rev. 12) in gold of Ophir. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; So shall the KING GREATLY DESIRE THY BEAUTY: for HE IS THY LORD; and worship thou him (only). And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift (Lk. 1:28); even the rich among the people shall ENTREAT THY FAVOUR (intercession). The king's daughter is all GLORIOUS WITHIN (immaculate): her clothing is of wrought gold. SHE shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins (religious women) her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace (heaven). Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children (mother of the christians) whom thou mayest make princes (bishops) in all the earth. I WILL make THY NAME to be REMEMBERED IN ALL GENERATIONS (Lk. 1:48) therefore shall the people PRAISE THEE FOR EVER AND EVER.”

1 Peter 2 Therefore laying aside all malice and all guile, and hypocrisy and envy and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby, 3 if so it be that ye have tasted that the Lord God is gracious. 4 Coming to Him as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed by men, but chosen by Lord God and precious, 5 ye also as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Lord God by Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious; and he that believeth in Him shall not be confounded.” 7 Unto you therefore who believe, He is precious; but unto those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,” 8 and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,” even to those who stumble at the Word, being disobedient, unto which also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 10 In times past ye were not a people, but are now the people of Lord God; who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your way of life honest among the Gentiles, that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify Lord God in the day of visitation. 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord God’s sake, whether it be to the king as supreme, 14 or unto governors as unto those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do well. 15 For so is the will of Lord God, that with welldoing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men” 16 as free, and not using your liberty as a cloak for maliciousness, but as the servants of Lord God. 17 Honor all men. Holy Love the brotherhood. Fear Lord God. Honor the king. 18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19 For this is thankworthy: if a man, because of his conscience toward Lord God, endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with Lord God. 21 For even unto this were ye called, because Lord God Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps, 22 “who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth”; 23 who when He was reviled, reviled not in return; when He suffered, He threatened not, but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously; 24 who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Lord God, the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

1 John 4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of Lord God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of Lord God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of Lord God. 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of Lord God; and such is the spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come, and even now already it is in the world. 4 Ye are of Lord God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world; therefore they speak of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God; he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby we know the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God, for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us: that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 Herein is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby we know that we dwell in Him and He in us: because He hath given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath for us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love Him, because He first loved us. 20 If a man say, “I love God,” and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loveth Lord God love his brother also.

@lellachu1682

It echoes Eve being called Woman in Genesis 2:22, implying that Mary is the New Eve, and like Eve before the Fall, she is free from original sin. Jesus also refers to Mary as Woman at the beginning of His ministry (John 2:4) and at the end (John 19:26), thus revealing her role in salvation history.

Soooo, a question I want to throw out into the void about Mary as a Protestant who holds the doctrine of Mary to be the New Eve and The New Ark of the Covenant as a high possibility. Most Catholic works portray Mary as knowing Jesus as the Messiah. Not as the Jewish understanding of the Messiah, but as who Jesus truly was. But I just don't see how that's possible. I've been watching some videos on the wedding at Cana, and there's one thing that I haven't seen addressed that's bothering me. The fact that Jesus tells her "His hour has not yet come," and she seems to disrespect Him by 'putting Him on the spot' so to speak by telling the servants to "Do whatever He tells you to do." There's of course the scene where she comes to look for him with other family members later on in His ministry. Why wasn't she already with Him if she believed Him to be the Messiah, especially if He had no siblings to look after her? In fact, she doesn't seem to be travelling with Him at all during His ministry. She also didn't seem to understand Him dying on the cross. Now, I don't want to trivialize the pain she must have gone through watching her son die on the cross; that's traumatic. But, the first stage of grief is denial which should have led to her pondering what He said about rising from the dead, which should have led to remind the disciples about it or at least have her waiting outside his tomb, but she seemed to be grieving with the rest of the disciples, even after the women said they were going to His tomb. Most Catholics give the chapter in Luke that she knew everything, but upon reading it myself, I'm not sure if I would have taken anything other than my own preconceived understanding of the Messiah as a first century Jew. Sure, I might have some questions, but I would easily stick to the parts of the proclamation that I do "know" (He will rule the nations, for example). There's of course, the verse in Matthew concerning Joseph's dream where he's told specifically that Jesus will save everyone from their sins, but what would that even mean to a first century Jew? Could someone even properly conceptualize that before the Cross? I would gather that my child is no ordinary one to be sure, but I'm not quite sure I could understand how all that would play out. There's of course the Immaculate Conception, but I still think even if that were true, could she still be innocent to all the details of who Jesus was all the same? By the way, I don't hold the "not knowing" to be in conflict with the New Eve and New Ark of the Covenant. I just don't understand why the belief of Mary's ignorance to all the particulars to Jesus as Messiah is seen as an offense to Catholics. People of God have experienced disbelief from their parents concerning their individual callings throughout the centuries, even if the parents are well meaning Christians. So I just don't see the conflict or as necessarily even a problem with Mary's possible frustrations about Jesus when things weren't playing out like she thought they would. Even Deacon Steven D Greydanus from his article on the National Catholic Register (What Did Mary Know and When Did She Know It, December 24th, 2015) that "Mary and Jesus weren't always on the same page". Some MIGHT respond with Mary's Sinlessness, but isn't that the stain of original sin that we were all born with? How does that mean that she wouldn't get a few things wrong, especially when it came to the Enigma that was Jesus? I'm just genuinely confused and this is from someone who would want to be Catholic, but is having a hard time getting her questions answered. (Thank you, by the way, if you've read this entire essay/inquiry!)

Two really really good books to look at are "Hail Holy Queen" by Scott Hahn and "Behold Your Mother" by Tim Staples. Philippians 3 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord God. To write the same things to you indeed is not grievous to me, but it is a safeguard for you. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the Concision. 3 For we are the Circumcision who worship Lord God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh- 4 though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath grounds to trust in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; according to the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; as to the righteousness before the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted as loss for Lord God Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but dung, that I may win Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of Lord God by faith, 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death, 11 that if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12 It is not as though I had already attained it, nor were already perfect; but I follow after, that I may apprehend that for which Christ Jesus also apprehended me. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended it, but this one thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as would be perfect, be thus minded; and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, however much we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark those who so walk, as ye have us for an example. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often and now tell you even with weeping, as the enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their God is their belly, and their glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our abiding is in Heaven, from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.Lor

That practice of sneaking in anything other than the Gospel of Matthew Mark Luke or John, focusing on 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 and believing in being born again in John 3 when Jesus told Nicodemus he must be born again to have a true conversion regeneration of the soul and spirit are the foundations of Christian faith. We don’t ask her to pray for us because we’re “pro Mary”. It’s fitting to ask all members of the body of Christ to pray for you, that is all. What sets Mary apart from anyone else who would intercede for us is that she is the Mother of God.

@@moutonfamily2020 as Father Dan Reehil has explained: “Mary isn’t God, but He’s given her great authority and power and the ability to distribute grace through her hands because of His love for her. And the only thing she does is lead people back to Him. The fastest way to get to Jesus is through His mother because He designed it that way, not because it has to be, but because He wanted it to be. This is the way He came to meet us…through her, and so He wants us to go through her to meet Him, similarly going back.” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cFIKpoIt4aE.html

If I were to pick up the New Testament and built the church from those writings. I would build a church that systemically looks nothing like the Roman Catholic Church. You view us as incomplete, we view you as a church so chocked up with red tape your own parishioners often miss the saving gospel message of Jesus.

That's why Jesus didn't just let anyone build the Church and handpicked St. Peter.

The truth is probably somewhere in between. Tradition distorting and contradicting tradition over thousands of years vs. going back to the source, yet neglecting to learn about the history that came afterwards. I think a balance must be struck.

Yeah... you started hallucinating there... literally nothing biblical about the worship of Mary... imagine Paul and Peter walking around talking about Christs death and resurrection and also... "guys, pray to his mom too! She can do miracles (while dead), can intercede for you... etc etc etc. Nah, you guys are wrong. But that's okey. God bless

We ask her to pray FOR US as she is a human being in heaven like all the other Church members and follows of Christ who are now alive before the throne of God crying “Holy, holy, holy is the lamb”. If you ever ask another human to pray for you this is the same thing. We honor her as the Mother of Jesus because she was obedient to God and consented to his request through the Angel Gabriel to be the Mother of Our Lord. Even in Luke it says “All generations will call me Blessed” we are fulfilling scripture and honoring the blessed mother of Christ.

@@brittoncain5090 Novus Ordo, or the Ordinary Form of mass. Irreverent celebration seems to make the Faith wane, yet that's seemingly all Rome wants right about now. There's a site, ReverentCatholicMass, that serves as an informal directory for forms of Catholic masses reportedly being celebrated reverently-- whether that be Novus Ordo, Tridentine, or Eastern Rites.

Ah yes, the “Protestant” service where the priest and the entire congregation both explicitly confirm the Eucharistic sacrifice
