Ingredients (8 cakes)
For the fillings
100g peeled split mung bean ( ½ cup)
¼ cup shredded young coconut (optional)
1 tbsp roasted sesame seeds
1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 tbsp sugar
11g vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
¼ tsp salt
For the dough
1 cup glutinous rice flour "Bot Nep" (or sweet rice flour mochiko) 100g
3 tbsp sugar
¼ tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
½ cup coconut flakes (eg. amzn.to/10RAsTM)
** You can buy coconut flakes at Western supermarket under baking section or at Asian Store or online at amzn.to/10RAsTM. Shredded young coconut (for the filling) can be found frozen at Asian store. You can buy a rice cooker at amzn.to/15YoOgo
You can also use a steamer instead of a microwave.

duoc em ah. Khi hap em lay khan boc nap noi lai (nhu chi lam trong clip banh da lon) de nuoc ko nho vao bot. Khi bot chuyen het sang mau trang duc (ko con mau trang tinh cua bot song) la duoc

No it's just normal milk (to make the dough whiter in color ) If you color the cakes it is ok just to use water.

The cakes are so cute!! But watching you work that sticky dough brought their cuteness level down. I shudder at having to work with dough like. LOL! Helen, I hope you make some more similar types of desserts, especially something with a combination of coconut, peanut, sesame seed, etc. I think there's a Vietnamese cake shaped like a pyramid and wrapped in banana leaves that has a filling like that. I miss eating it.

Bị trào hay ko là do loại nồi cơm điện bạn dùng. Nếu ko thay đổi được thì lần sau để cái khay ở dưới để hứng cho dễ dọn thoi^^

you can cover with a cloth and steam the dough for 15 mins, or until no white part is seen.

you can steam it abt 10-15mins.. Cover with a towel to avoid water dripping into the dough

I love these elegant snowball cakes. The texture is wonderful. It has sticky glutinous rice cover and soft mung bean filling mixed with crunchy shredded coconut and crispy roasted sesame seeds. It's surprisingly flavorful and delicious.

I think the flour you used might not be the right one. Please try again with bot nep (glutinous rice flour).

I made banh bo! Now it's like my thing to make for my family. Their only complaint was that I was making them so big (which, it looked like about the size you made). I also heated more sugar and coconut milk to make a dipping sauce for it. I make them in colors based around whichever holiday is near. I really want to make this banh bao chi and the cach lam and the ginger tofu... I just never really have the money to buy more stuff. I'm also lazy, lol. Btw, I also really like your voice!

Don't be upset :) What could have went wrong: 1. You have to use glutinous rice flour! It is different from white rice flour. Only glutinous rice flour has that sticky consistency 2. If you have used the right flour but it does not work, it could be the heat of our microwave is too high. Try for 1 min each time, take out and stir well, then continue until you get the right consistency Good luck next time nhe!

A friends mother from vietnam makes these. They are soooo gooood. Like a gummy bear on outside but softer and distinct texture. Mildly sweet. I am thinking of surprising her and make my version for her. I would like to go non traditional on inside filling. Not the mung beans, not ice cream, but what about other things like ......???????. Anybody?

50hellkat2: I just saw this recipe, so sorry for the late reply. Yes you can use 2 tablespoons each of shredded /dessicated coconut, 2 tablespoons sesame seeds & 2 tablespoons crushed peanuts with 3 tablespoons sugar. Dry fry the peanuts 1st in a non stick pan until aromatic, then add the rest.

These videos are made for foreigners also please remember that. I think she should make videos in English. We can all understand. If she speak Vietnamese and have sub beneath, people would lose focus on the video. In stead, they will try to catch up with the subtitle.
