I disagree, sure most of the storylines would make more sense if the characters were older and more mature, but just the way the characters are written to see them in college would be unrealistic. I understand maybe characters like Nate, Lexi or even Jules, who have ambitions in life, but Maddy or Rue wouldn't make sense to be in college tbh
@gummy5862

A lot of the storylines work because of the idea of being forced to be there (it’s high school) and parental control. So there isn’t as much angst in college because by then you’re an adult and can make all your own decisions. There’s also kind of a cool kids and everyone knows everyone thing within the show, which doesn’t really happen in college (cause you know, there’s tens of thousands of students).

Kats cam girl stuff was super uncomfortable to me, because when I was in high school I dabbled in that and it was… terrible. I didn’t have some sugar daddy paying me hundreds of dollars, I had men from their 20s all the way to their 60s threatening to come find me and hurt me. I was doing it solely for attention and it got completely out of hand and super scary. So yeah, I got your point about sexualiIng underage characters, but this show cannot even do it right or shock anyone because the actors look old as hell. @@gabrielleribeiro8054 of course you can't use actual teenagers for those scenes, because well that's against the law (in most countries). It's not really a conscious choice of the maker. @elijahwinchester6690
@elijahwinchester6690 2 года назад
@@karolinkiehl4097 technically, minors may be able to film sexual/romantic scenes, so long as they aren't graphic. in 'shameless', a majority of the main cast is made up of minors, and their young characters are from a negligent family home in a low income neighborhood. understandably, they replicate their parents and the other adults they've come to know, and begin having sex very often, very early on in life. there are scenes where minors are essentially just suggested to be doing something friskier, but never actually shown nude. for example, i remember a scene starting with one of the boys (15) coming out from 'under his girlfriends skirt' and he asks if she really wants him to stop, trying to convince her to skip school with him for the day. another one that's even less romanticised, we see a young girl (13) crawl into bed beside her piss drunk crush (18+) and there's a condom on her end table. the shows themes are dark as well, liek euphoria's, but the most genuinely sensual romance scenes are between adults; even when younger characters (played by 18+ actors) are shown in a bit more detail, it's very rarely nice to look at it. it's poky and awkward and uncomfy to watch. or, sometimes they just sort of have conversations and the like, neither even really seeming to be enjoying themselves or finding pleasure, because they don't know how it really works yet. unfortunately, i disagree with your last statement. although you might not have until you were an adult, many teenagers do have sex; if teenagers are going to be accurately portrayed in media, then sex is usually going to be a part of that, because it's how the world genuinely works.

Euphoria should have approached this with more sensitivity-they should have showed the after effects, the physical pain, the emotional pain of losing a life...they just kind of wrapped it up. If they have enough time to show detailed s3x scenes then they had enough time to showcase this. They should have also discussed more options such as keeping the baby or putting them up for an adoption. In addition to this, it would've been a great moment to explain sex education to the students but there's not a single teacher in sight. I'm sorry for the long comment but your take was really insensitive.
@nini-qc1qd
@nini-qc1qd 2 года назад
@John Doe I'm definitely pro-choice and I didn't say that an abortion in itself is terrible- I'm saying having MULTIPLE abortions IS terrible. While the word terrible does reflect the poor choices of the two people who made this decision MULTIPLE times, it also puts emphasis on the fact that how little sex education people get, especially in poorer countries. Everyone should have access to proper abortions and healthcare but if someone is going through it multiple times then it is terrible and either they lack judgement or they're in a situation they need to get out of ASAP. Also, I'm a medical student so please understand that I've studied the effects of abortions on women-most of the times, they're devastating. Also- a person can be pro choice and grieve the life lost-it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Also- Euphoria is a show and most of the times in situations like these, shows portray discussing a wide range of options which they didn't. Cassie having an abortion is not irresponsible in itself but the factors that led her to that stage demonstrate the irresponsibility of Cassie's parents, McKay's parents and perhaps the teachers. I'm not being politically correct here, if I was then I would just say "abortions are great" but they're not. Having the OPTION of having abortions available is great and a right but pretending that abortions don't come with their own set of problems is problematic. If a person, especially a young person like Cassie who was barely 16 is going to make this decision then they should know what kind of things they're going to face, emotionally and mentally.

also in the special episode we got of her she explains how she feels this constant need to “conquer femininity”. this explains (not excuses) her behavior with all of those older men so i feel like this season with her entering her relationship with rue it makes sense that she takes a darker approach to street wear. not only can you see rue’s influence in her fashion decisions, which could also be seen as a sign of their codependency, but you can also see how she’s maybe evolving out of this need to prove her femininity. this by the way is not to portray hyper femininity negatively (i am extremely hyper feminine), but rather to use clothing to explain jules mindset this season. i feel like maybe for her these ultra feminine outfits were more of a costume or persona. or maybe i’m just giving sam levison too much credit cuz that man’s a mess.

I think Jules' outfits changed because during the special episodes she talked about how she is realizing that she doesn't have to be this super feminine person for the male gaze. She can make her woman hood her own. During the special episode she talked about going off hormones. Therefore there is a shift in her wardrobe. Also It upsets me that the storyline of her mother being a drug addict did not get brought up because it mirrors her and Rue's relationship. That could of been one of the sources of conflict rather than having Dominic's character intervene and become some sort of love triangle. His character seemed pointless to me. Overall a lot of what was built up in season 1 was not addressed in season 2. There was no continuity at all. Season 2 felt like a totally different reality and universe. Kat’s entire storyline was a victim of this. they never addressed that she was never actually empowering herself through sexuality, she was literally dehumanizing herself to get approval from men. like when Ethan was trying to tell her he genuinely liked her as a person and she basically acted like that’s not possible because he didn’t want to have sex with her right away. she viewed herself as good for nothing more than sex as a direct result of her attempting to “own” her sexuality by oversexualizing herself, but somehow we never saw her realize that or grow from it, it was just never addressed. not to mention both Maddie and Cassie willing to take abuse just so the guy they like will stay with them, with only Maddie coming to her senses in like…the very last episode, and not even remotely trying to have a conversation with Cassie about how dangerous he is. idk how the writer can consider himself a feminist at all when this is what he is coming up with lol

I went to high school with the full spectrum of middle class students. It was a school of 3000 with really competitive academics and sports and a decently funded arts department, at least compared to “rival” public schools. There was a not insignificant amount of heroine and Coke passed around the upperclassmen when I was a freshman. Enough that one of my classmates kind of fell into it. And of course lotta pot. Kind of insane sex rumors, obviously most of them probably fake, but the ones that I knew about…man, the kernel of truth wasn’t just a kernel. A few rape accusations, a couple of suicides, and then multiple deaths every year. None were drug related, somehow. My mom was a doc for the hospital by the university on the other side of town where a lot of the high schoolers would party. A senior came in ODed on heroine. When he finally came to, she absolutely interrogated him if I was involved. Like, euphoria is insane, but it’s not that insane. My takes on Euphoria are these: Jules was killed by Sam Levinson lmao, dude too her character and made it shitty Lexi was toxic af for airing Cassie's issues to EVERYONE on her hs (also her play was a pos, i don't know why everyone thought she ate that) Nate (i don't know if this is true, more than a theory) i'm bored and tired of the "i'm a closeted gay therefore i am extremely hom0ph0bic to gays" Cassie is a cliche; girl with daddy issues that gew up to be hypersexual (also Sam Levinson weird thing for having her naked all the time is creeppy) Fezco, if Fez was a black character nobody will pay attention to him. Also people love to romanicize him and call him "pure, good" NO HE'S NOT, he's a drug dealer. He probably sold drugs to Rue!! (No hate to Angus Cloud he looks like an amazing guy) Lexi and Cassie's mom (i forgot her name) is an awful mother and we can see she's often neglectful towards her kids. She's not a queen. Kat got a lot of hate for what she did to Ethan, which was bad, but she didn't own him anything and if she wasn't feeling it then it was the right decision to left him (she could have been better at breaking up with him)

@@andreinapereira552 It's not cliché, but it became unrealistic this season, it was very forced and almost impossible to take seriously. In the first season her character was well written and also well structured, but in the second season everything is based on her relationship with Nate and having sex (and I find Sam's obsession with Syd very disturbing), when they would have made much better use of her character. Her storyline was very good and also the daddy issues could've been a good arc for this new season, but they exploited it all badly. Also why is no one talking about how this show was made for ADULTS by ADULTS about MINORS that are shown naked most of time? Many defend this by claiming that it’s being “real” while forgetting that there is no such thing as realism in edited work. It was a choice. They could’ve simply made the characters play freshmen in college but they chose a high school setting. As an adult that was just disturbing honestly and one of the many reasons why I didn’t and won’t watch the show.

Laurie's thinly-veiled threat WAS addressed in the plot in s2e5. When Rue was going through withdrawal, she went to Laurie as a last resort to get a fix after Fezco threw her out. Laurie told Rue she didn't have any pills, only morphine, insinuating that if Rue wasn't already using intravenous drugs, it was a bad idea to give it to her because IV drugs work quicker and more effectively, opening up the possibility of the addict gaining a new addiction. But this was Laurie being manipulative and disingenuous because when Rue ran to use the bathroom, Laurie went to her suitcase to grab a needle and the morphine in preparation for the inevitability of Rue caving in and asking for anything that will help lessen her suffering, regardless of how risky it is. Laurie knew this because she even told Rue prior that she herself knew how hard going through withdrawal was, and in the past, she would have done to make it stop. She knew Rue would cave and ask for the morphine, and in the suitcase next to the morphine is what looks suspiciously like orange pill bottles with white lids. Having been or is an addict herself, Laurie knew that Rue was unable to keep her word about paying her back after seeing the state she was in. Seeing how desperate Rue was, she knew Rue had no resources to turn to and therefore she was unreliable. She WANTED Rue to develop a new habit that she can supply her with in order to pimp Rue out, making good on both her threat about selling Rue and the comment about the luck they as women have because even if they don't have money, they have something that can be exchanged for it. Rue being kidnapped and locked in a room with Laurie's cronies on lookout was the first step in Laurie's attempt at trying to get her money back. Rue then escapes, and we as viewers are expected to suspend our disbelief of Laurie and her people eventually giving up on finding her or not searching in the first place. What is more probable is that they are probably biding their time until season 3.

MEE!!!! I had a discussion with my sister and asked her what she thought and I had pointed out how, while momentarily empowering to Lexi, she still humiliated her sister in front of parents and other students who may not have known about Cassie. While parents may not know who Cassie is their kids do and you know that they are going to be pointing out who she is. Cassie asks Lexi if this was the part that her counter part of the play steals Maddy's counter part's boyfriend and you see Lexi say that she didn't put that plotline, almost like that was doing a favor for Cassie by not including it. But then you have the biggest trigger for Cassie that causes her to attack the actress playing her, which is her carousel scene back in season 1 when she was high. This was where I thought that this was really cruel to do to your sister.

i heard someone describe euphoria as a show meant for adults who want to remember what being a teen felt like, not what it WAS like, and it made more sense to me (even if I still dislike with a lot of the storylines). When you're a teen, everything feels very serious, permanent, and like the end of the world. Your emotions are so intense and draining, and every social struggle feels like it'll be what ends your life. As for the lack of consequences, yeah_bc most of the time, the issues that teens panic the most about are often ultimately inconsequential. And yes, i know there are teenagers who DO really experience serious struggles, addiction, assault, violence, and problems in the home. But they react with the same level of heightened emotions that their peers do when facing way less intense struggles. Personally, I would LOVE a more shows like PEN15 that accomplish that same effect but let the audience see it from a distance. Because I remember what it was like being a 13 year old girl-everything felt so dramatic amongst my friends/social circles and yet I somehow ignored all the home life problems that I came home to. And i can watch THAT show and laugh/cry along with the main characters and understand their very real, if less dramatic, pain. My biggest issue with Euphoria, really, is... why the fuck are adults so invested in experiencing their youth again that they need to see teenagers on screen like that..... do we really need to see kids fucking 30 times in one episode to remember what it was like getting physical with our peers for the first time??

I think there were issues that were depicted in a very raw and real way like Rue's addiction( especially in season2) or when she was so depressed she couldn't even get up to pee and a whole lot of other issues without being glamorized. But in season 2, except for Rue's addiction and Lexi's issues with being in her sister's shadow her whole life, most of the arcs are becoming just like a regular teen drama show. Plus I hate how they glamorized Lexi's rebellion to being in the shadow. Dating a drug dealer and making a play airing out people's business for attention and out of spite is not the way to take control of your life.

I personally watch Euphoria simply for the drama because it definitely doesn’t disappoint in that aspect. But the way that Sam Levinson wrote the characters this season was disappointing. The hyper-fixated on how the sexual these 16-18 year olds are, relationships being broken off randomly and messily, it makes the show feel like Riverdale on drugs, literally. Like instead of being a heavy piece about teenagers and their families working through trauma and seeking peace of mind, it became meme material and softcore p***. And seriously, WHY WERE THERE SO MANY SHOTS OF CASSIES BOOBS?!?! Even Sydney Sweeney said she was uncomfortable with how many shots there were. Like I can assure you, we do not need to see a 17 year old topless every episode or any episode for that matter.

And from the looks of things they should have let it be, if they didn't have any more stories that they were passionate enough to tell, why would they wreck the luck that they had with the first season firing on all cylinders. The first season still had a lot of unresolved storylines. If they just let it be then we as fans would be frustrated since there's no conclusion to the story. Even if your story is character driven you still need to resolve each of their plot lines. Season 2 could have continued where season 1 left off. It wasn't just about the money. Jules and Nate low key gave me Kylo Ren and Rey vibes (or Kylo and Rey before Kylo turned good). Like both kept me on the edge of my seat because there was, as someone beautifully described it, a twisted affection between the characters. you want the girls to run and you know that the guys are gonna screw them over, but the on screen chemistry leaves you wanting more between them. Also the whole “she brings out his good side” trope is cool to watch as long as the girl doesn’t end up becoming the guy’s therapist.
