This may just be the most impressive mod I've ever played from a technical standpoint. I really hope some other streamers play it and it gets the credit it deserves because as it currently stands it's criminally underrated. Even if you don't stream I cannot recommend this mod enough. If you want to play through half life again do it with this installed, it really is a blast. The slow-mo and pills really spice up the gunplay and the added guns are super fun. Alternately you can ALSO play this as Half-Life super hot or have random gameplay modifiers cycling while you play. (Also sorry about my especially aimless wandering in parts of this there was a lot going on and at 33:30 the reason I threw a grenade is I was under the impression the Penguins were friendly to the player)
I like the idea of Max Payne, a cop, deciding to have a fresh start, so he goes for theoretical physicist. Not only that but he manages to graduate and land a job at a secret desert lab. Truly it's never too late to achieve your dreams.
Max Payne finds a new way to cope with his trauma through the study of theoretical physics...but his old lifestyle catches up to him when he once again has to use his skills to survive both man and alien alike in Half-Payne! Coming Holidays 1998.
and as we see in the video the first thing he does on the job is take copious amounts of drugs so much that he can't stay still. realizing the predicament he found himself in he downs a bottle or two alcohol to act as a downer can't let his coworkers suspect anything until after the urinalyses.
On top of that I like the idea of Max also getting a new government issued name, "Gordon Freeman" , a prescription for glasses and growing a goatee. In some alternative universes he's also been punched so hard in the throat he became a mute as well. his time in New York life was worse compared to his new promising career in Black Mesa.
Jolly's first mistake was allowing Twitch Chat control of _anything._ His _second_ mistake was having the effects last for *two goddamn minutes* rather than, I dunno, thirty seconds. A whole minute at maximum, two minutes is pretty much asking for trouble.
That is exactly why I'm hating the voting gimmick here and actually wishing he'd not even done it. They go on for far too long, they end up stacking with other effects because of that, and it just makes this real annoying to watch, especially the ones that fuck with his view.
@@Wolvinof he's not the only streamer that does it too, pisses me off. And they all act surprised when twitch chat selects the absolute worse options and kills them over and over and over.
Seriously the dream sequence was the point where I was just blown away by how much work had gone into the mod. Fits not only perfectly into the story but just was so well done. (For those wondering it's not featured here it's when Gordon/Max gets jumped)
This stream is the perfect representation of Jolly's content. Insanity, disorientation & a lot of funny people messing with Jolly for shits and giggles.
I absolutely adore the fact that Max Payne went and got a job to move on, shows up drunk to work obviously hopped up on something with an EXPERIMENTAL WEAPON in hand and waving it about madly.
The effects chat chose at the beginning are very fitting to Max Paynes character. I can imagine him on the first day of work drunk and stumbling around after thinking about his dead family again.
If we're going by this version of Max he wouldn't do that... The constant drinking didn't become a thing til part 3 after ALLL of the crap he went thru in the first 2 games...
You mentioned during the stream you would like to see a speedrunner play this. You're in luck because kanangaTV who holds the second fastest run for the game plays it regularly on his stream and he's surprisingly good at it all things considered
The original Max Payne Games are some of my favorite games of all time, I just finished playing through all three games again probably two weeks ago, then this comes up. Guess it's time to deal with the Payne... "They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger, and then it was over."
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and giving Twitch chat the power to affect your game will result in abject misery as they torture you.
@@ArcYT Yeah, that's what I thought. I don't even get motion sick, like ever and still felt a bit dizzy. Probs for Jolly for enduring that bullshit while playing.
I think it would be easier to play than to watch. Having some semblance of control, even as little as he has, would probably help orient you - especially with the upside down, drunk aim/look and such. Except for reverse controls. That's just fucked
Practice with past mod shinigans. You build up a tolerance for shinigans after being stuck in a room fighting increasing quantities of antlion kings 12 times in a row.
Yeah these debuffs needed a much shorter duration and some needed to be straight up removed. Like the fade to black might be the absolute worse thing ever. Who TF thought THAT would be fun. Staring at a blank screen with nothing happening?
And the next recommended is Civvie's video on half-life "A Linear Sequence of Scares". Which is also the fun house level in Max Payne 2's name. Now that's some algorithm.
In my head canon, this mod is an alternate take on Max Payne 3 where Max decided to quit being a detective after 2 and became a black Mesa scientist to start over
god, this is headache inducing. If i were Jolly, i wouldn't even be able to play the game with some of these modifiers. I would've disabled many of them to prevent the chat from using them, particularly the Drunk modifiers, because i get motion sick easily.
I have watched comedy shows in person and not laughed as often as I did during the last 34 minutes. Pure genius! The integration of Half-Life, Max Payne, and Command and Conquer put 3 of my favorite games together, and surprisingly well. Now there needs to be a mod where actions in one game warp you into another, each cutscene bringing you back to where you left off but have no recollection of what you were supposed to be doing because you were playing 2-3 other games at the same time.
every time when im in a bad mood or have nothing to do, i come here, take my food and enjoy watching your videos. You are so chill and act natural playing games. Love you dude ❤️
I love how during the cascade when you're being shown random parts of the alien world, you just see max-ified Aliens and his comment "fancy seeing you here" couldn't have been more perfect. Until I saw normal enemies, I honestly thought this was a complete shitpost of a mod.
"Hey Max, looks like you're running late... wait a minute..." *Sniff sniff* "Are you drunk? You're late *and* you're drunk? And is that a prototype!? How did you get your hands on that?"
I saw my username pop up during the first vote on the tram and realized I had somehow _completely forgotten_ I had been there for this stream. Your stream-to-video pipeline is long sometimes, but man was it great to see this again.
Max wearing the leather jacket is much cooler than Max wearing that stupid flowery shirt like he's a tourist in the favela. Still, I had to cackle; Max's dark monologue and point-blank remarks just fit perfectly in this mod.
I like to think of myself as a bit of a gamer. I have spent many thousands of hours on games and never gotten motion sick or disoriented.... until I watched this video cause fuck me
When I was watching the parts towards the start where it was upside down and you mentioned headaches, I had just flipped my own screen upside down so I could see yours right side up
I've rung the damn bell icon thing and STILL didn't get notified about this video. I only know it exists as it was reccommended next to Grayfruit's new video. (Also I'd love it if you two could somehow colab someday.)
This whole video is just Jolly going: "Noooo... I hate this, i hate chat :( " while clearly having the time of his life. Btw, i love your music choices, gives this whole video a classy feel, makes me wanna drink a glass of expensive alcohol, while I toast to your continued success. Cheers, Jolly!
I really need to give this mod a try once I get a new pc, I've played all three games religiously so I was surprised to hear lines from all three being added here, as well as some background music from 3
