My grandma, grandpa and dad beat this game before me because I was 6 when it came out. Hours of watching them play turned this game into a family tradition. They are all dead and I still play this game with my 4 kids. This game has made a impact on many generations. This is a game people will play for a hundred years.

As a kid I got a Super NES for Christmas in like 1990. My cousins came over to visit sometime shortly after this and brought their SNES game collection with them. One of their games was LTTP. I started playing it and could not stop and eventually got a copy for myself. It's an incredible game, a masterpiece that even holds up today. So many hidden secrets, so many iconic characters, locations, sound effects, you name it. It's not my favorite Zelda game any longer (I am in love with open world Zelda these days) but if asked I would boot up and play through this game again, no hesitation. Edit: I think you'd like Minish Cap, as a future suggestion.

@@AndSaveAsManyAsYouCan it's definitely a must play. Like, you can't have a snes or snes emulator and not have this game. It's easily in my top five for the system and top 3 for Zelda games, right up there with Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time, which is saying something considering it's age.

This is my #1 Zelda game. Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Zelda 2 are favs also that I recommend but Link to the Past is just a fantastic game. It really laid the groundwork for what would become standard or traditional Zelda. The 2 worlds, the score, and so much more. You wouldn't have Ocarina without what LttP started.

I don't know if it's nostalgia since Link to the Past was my first Zelda game, but this is still my fav Zelda game of all time. The more these games get into the 3D realm with open worlds like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, the more I miss these old top down sprite games.

I used to like it more than Ocarina of Time until that grew on me more. A Link to the Past has such a special feel to it that I don't know how to put into words. It's such a different world somehow from the 3D games, which should basically be the same considering the carry over, but they just aren't. Memorable music and sounds too, pleasant art style, good game.

@cravdraa
@cravdraa Месяц назад
I absolutely loved Link's Awakening, but the hand held games are more strictly linear. Still fun to explore and oozing with charm but you have to do the dungeons in order. Oracle of seasons and ages are much the same, but with the interesting twist that if you carry over your data then the second game you play becomes a sequel to the first. Ocarina of Time is probably the game in the series that's most similar to Link to the Past. interesting NPCs. a world to explore. A bit more story focused, but some of the dungeons can still be done out of order. Majora's mask is just weird in the best sort of way. It's focus is on the NPCs and how helping and interacting with them gets you new masks. The Minish Cap has a world that feels alive in ways no other game in the series can. The world of the minish is adorable. A Link Between Worlds actually shares the same world as a Link to the Past! Remixed and with new dungeons and abilities, naturally. It was an experiment in non-linear game design. Rather than find Dungeon items, you buy them, meaning that you can complete the dungeons in any order so long as you have the right tools for the job.

This game has 3 direct sequels, all for the Game Boy/Game Boy Color. There's Link's Awakening, and my personal favorites, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. Seasons has a greater emphasis on exploration and combat while Ages has a greater emphasis on puzzle-solving. All 4 of these games feature the same Hero of Legend you played as in A Link to the Past. The soundtrack in the Oracles games are fantastic, they're full of quirky characters, and the games just exude personality in every regard. I cannot stress enough how massively underrated these two are. They're 2 of the best games the *entire* Zelda series has to offer. A Link Between Worlds takes place in the same Hyrule as ALttP but is set in the distant future. It's a bit different and follows _a lot_ of tropes that started becoming stale by the time it was released, though it still has the same core mechanics. It's pretty good but doesn't have anything super special that makes it stand out amongst the other Zelda titles. If you've _just_ completed ALttP, I'd suggest waiting to play this one. Four Swords Adventures on the GameCube is an immensely enjoyable experience. The approach to item use is much more reserved, and being in control of 4 separate characters is different, but you'll find the exact same kind of world exploration and puzzle solving you see in ALttP. It's also Four Swords Adventures remains one of my favorite 2d Zelda titles. The biggest difference is that the game progresses is stages with mostly linear progression, but many of the levels are so big that it doesn't make a huge difference and you can always explore them again if you missed something.

Someone maybe mentioned it already, but the Oracle games are so good. Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. They were game boy games, but they're just as good as ALTTP.

Link to the Past wasn't my first Zelda (that would be Zelda II), but it's the first one where I was old enough to actually play it to completion. As some other comments might say, it's one of the first to fully establish what you could call "core" Zelda. I kind of think of it as "the first best Zelda". I don't know your ability to get into older games, but as not to spoil yourself, I'd start with the oldest titles you care to play, and play as many as you can. The first two on NES will probably feel a bit bland and empty, but Link's Awakening (the GameBoy DX version) is surprisingly colorful and full of life. I envy you. I wish I could play all these games for the first time again. You said you've only really played BotW and TotK as far as Zeldas go, so let me tell you something that you've either already heard or will hear around the internet: those games, BotW and TotK, are *not* Zelda. THIS is Zelda. The world, the dungeons, the items in the dungeons, that progression throughout the game, secrets, collectibles, upgrades, characters, all of that is what makes Zelda Zelda, and it's hardly present in the newest two titles.

I love most of the Zelda series. My favorites are III, Z64, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and Zelda DX. I also like a few others like Ages, Seasons and Minish Cap but I have not put too much time into those yet. The Zelda games I tend to avoid for one reason or another are Zelda II, and Majora's Mask. I have Tears of the Kingdom but not Breath of the Wild, and I have not put more than a few hours into TOTK yet. I appreciate the exploration, but honestly in the newer Zeldas on Switch, Im buggered out that I don't just have a sword to hack and slash at everything and I don't quite enjoy the weapon system as much as some others might. The OG Zelda is pretty great too. I have invested quite a bit of time into the Zelda series over the years.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED LTTP YET, PLEASE BEWARE THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT. I will always love this game. I was running so many reruns of it while waiting for ToTK to drop. I actually go back to this game more often than OoT. Years back with my siblings we never thought LTTP was a good game as we judging it by the top down perspective. We were to used to left to right type scrolling games. Well that was until we played it for the first time. One surprise I never realised until many years later is you can go freestyle in the dark world by raiding all the dungeons for the upgrade gear to fully explore both over worlds for heart containers then finish the game by returning to the dungeons for a final boss rush to the endgame. I remember so many bosses we got stuck on back in the day due to base level gear but never realised we could have left and returned later with superior equipment to make those challenging boss encounters much easier. Even having the red rod in the ice palace was handy in navigating bypassing the maze puzzle. Still it was always an achievement to get through the dark world following the intended route but the flexibility demonstrates the great game design. Also the Cucco's are the true bosses of the game. Glad you got to experience that 😂 Looking back I actually think this game might be what got me into multiverse sci-fi with how the light and dark world were setup. The introduction of the dark world was a great twist.

When you wanna play a 2D Zelda I would suggest Minish Cap, its a solid and enjoyable game. Zelda Twilight Princess (HD) is probably the best Zelda when it comes to story and dungeons and you can just dive into it; not like my alltime favorite game: Majoras Mask - its the sequel to Ocarina of Time, so it would be nice when youve played OoT before even so its not that necessary for your playthrough, just in a few parts you will understand something you wouldnt do without playing Ocarina of Time first. MM has the best atmosphere, really nice dungeons where you really need to understand how they work. MM has so much unique stuff, awesome music and the best sidequests of all Zelda, its just awesome and does just exist, because of a bet between Miyamoto and Aonuma, because Aonuma didnt liked the Zelda project they were working on, so Miyamoto gave him one year to finish an own Zelda game. Ocarina of Time is a solid game, its an awesome introduction to 3D Zelda and its one of the first 3D games, so you can see how a lot things started - for example it is the first game you could ever targeting an enemy - some dungeons are kind of boring, but there a many dungeons so you will have also really good dungeons too, music is also really good, but I love some of MM songs even more. PLEASE dont play Ocarina of Time 3D or Majoras Mask 3D - even so the graphic of the remakes are better (for most people), these remakes are crap... Twilight Princess HD and Windwaker HD are really good remakes. Windwaker is also a really good game, but to me it laggs a bit in dungeons, there arent that many dungeons and I just really like two of them, but I've played my Top 5 Zelda games at least 20 times each 100%, so my sight changed a bit through the years; probably in a first playthrough its not a big deal. But its really a good game, too - so have fun with it :) Hope that could help a little which one you wanna play - also I liked Links Awakening (played it much later than the most other Zelda games) I think its some nostalgic feeling for many people - personally Im not that hyped when it comes to Links Awakening. Maybe you could add "what you think makes this Zelda special" to your future reviews or what makes them special to you compared to other Zelda games. Have a great day :)

A Link Between Worlds is the obvious suggestion as it takes place in the same world and is kind of a remake/reimagining. It'll feel familiar but different. Beyond that the handheld games are pretty good, generally. I particularly like Minnish Cap, I think it does the best job of capturing what I liked about LttP while doing something that feels fresh at the same time. Both Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages are good games (bit sillier on the humor) but are a bit dated looking since they were GBC games, they also tie in to eachother which is really cool. I heard mixed opinions on Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks but haven't played em myself.

This is my favorite game of all time. I've played through it more times than I can remember. I even got my name in Nintendo Power for beating the game with only 13 hearts (No extra Heart Containers). I'm glad you enjoyed the game. For some of the things you didn't like as much (the combat and the soundtrack not being as epic), I think that is partially a product of it's time. The game was released early in the SNES era, and there were still plenty of limitations in both of those areas. You playing it over 30 years after the initial release with no sense of nostalgia would probably make a difference when talking about hot those things were not as good as some of the newer games in the series.

So you learned what happens when you abuse cuckos in ALTTP. Did you happen to do that in either BotW or TotK? It’s just one of the many features that make a Zelda game and carries through the decades. Many of the elements you will not have seen if you have only played “Wilds” era Zelda, but the boomerang, hook shot, ocarina, boot upgrades, and bug net / capturing things in bottles started here, along with musical themes like Hyrule Castle, Zelda’s Lullaby, and Kakariko Village.

My favorite of all time is Ocarina of Time. First 3D game. It is a great game. If you are looking for more similar to A Link to the Past, then a link between worlds is the closest, but the remake of Lonks Awakening would also be up your alley. See what I did there?

Jump right into: A link between worlds Chrono Trigger and FF3 are also must play snes games if you haven't already.. Also, as far as top down games like that you can hop back a gen to nes and play Crystalis (1990). Subscribed

Lots of debate about ALTTP vs OOT being the best Zelda. I can't say which is the better game, but I can say the overall feel of ALTTP is much more immersive (imo). Despite being a top-down 2D game, I always feel much more "in the game" when I play through it. Huge piece of my childhood right here. Thoroughly enjoyed your take on it!

I love a link to the past, it’s one of my favorite Zelda games (ocarina is my favorite, yes I know cliché answer). If you loved this game then you definitely need to play Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It game out 22 years after A Link to the Past and it’s a sequel to it, with very similar gameplay and world design. The game is still relatively cheap.

was my first Zelda game that I played at the age of 7 back in 1992, practically my first SNES Game, it was such a brilliant game and I wish it would get remaked, because its honestly aside of ocarina of time and twilight princess the best classic Zelda game on consoles aside with the GBA Zeldas Oracles and Seasons. it would be truly the only game that would make me seriously buy a Switch 2, if Nintendo would remake this Zelda game and make it even bigger, better and improve it with lots of good things from the newer generation zelda games that game after it, which werent technically possible at the tiems of the SNES.

For 2d Zelda recommendations Link between worlds is solid. Links awakening is great Loved the oracle of ages and seasons games. Older but good. And the spirit tracks or phantom hourglass are good too

Its easily in the top 10 and probably in the top 5. the "best" games are kind of subjective. Its one of the absolute best SNES games (which have aged very well) like chrono trigger, final fantasy 6, and super mario world/rpg. Is it the absolute "best" game of all time? For lots of people it is. For others it maybe Zelda 64 or FF7. Or Mario 64. But regardless it is easily one of the best games of all time and should be included in every best list and in video game history.

If you like Link to the Past you will love Link Between Worlds.😊 Link to Past is awesome. The best 3 Zelda games are Nes Legand of Zelda SNEs Link to the Past WiiU / Switch Breath of the Wild. 4th goes to Ocarana of Time. #5 is a tie between Minish Cap and WindWaker

2D zeldas... ok. Links Awakening DX for the GBC is very similar, if you want more of the same. Minish Cap is like an "updated" take on it, better everything because it was on the GBA. This one is a masterpiece. Oracle of Ages / Seasons were made by CAPCOM and they are "different". There´s interaction between the two games with codes and stuff that i personally didn´t use, they are excellent games but i have to admit they felt a little off the first time i played.

Save "Adventure of Link" for last. It's the direct sequel to the original, and it's cruel in difficulty. It has the most RPG elements and the world is huge. If you're not maxed out (levels, hearts, magic) you won't make it through the final dungeon. In the US localization there's a cheese method for the final boss, so if you can, find a Japanese ROM. Even if you play the US localization... It's a bitch without a guide.

I know a bunch of people are saying A Link Between Worlds is just as good, but I disagree hard. To me it's always been missing something I can't put my finger on that keeps me from being drawn back to it the way A Link to the Past draws me back. I just replayed it for the third time, and that opinion hasn't changed. It has all of the pieces needed to be the better game, but it isn't.

No way it’s the best game ever. It’s incredible. But it’s just not as fun to play. Ocarina of time has a real shot at actually best game ever. There was just something special about that one. The first time playing it was jaw dropping. They took everything up to 11 and it was so much more. Couldn’t believe they pulled it off to actually go full 3d for the first time and nail it. And it was still Zelda

This game means so much to me. When ever my parents were having a party, and that was a lot of parties. I rented this game from a local shop. I became so good at it relative to my age, that i could complete it in 24 hours if i skipped sleeping. The shop I rented it from eventually said. You know.. youve rented this game so many times that you could habe bought it...twice.. just gimme the game man 😅. Ive never owned a physical copy yet. It on my bucket list. The next escape game for me was Final Fantasy VI. I have a poster of link snes style with pink hair and all in my living room, i am 42 now, and my daughter wants to be reffered to as Zelda, and my boy was dressed as Link for multiple occasions.
