surge 1 has a certain charm to it but man is it rough. i do like tho how you can tell how the devs improved their craft from lords of the fallen. to surge 1 and then surge 2

just the fact they added an option to remove the camera bob is already a massive improvement xb

For some reason Surge 1 also runs like absolute dogshit. I tried it several times and always get the same problem: second major area immediately get weird graphic bug where everything devolves into a mishmash of polygons sticking out of each other and level geometry. Everything looks like you stranded in eldritch dimension where everything is made of sea urchins. Second Surge plays a lot smoother.

@@ruikiri Never played the Western DLC as it came out after I bought the "complete" bundle, but the Creoworld DLC comes in 2 stages. You first get access to it pretty early in the campaign via a colorful train and you can play about half of it. Then you have to find the other access point to Creoworld later in the campaign in order to finish it. Creoworld has some nice implants so I think its worth dipping your toe in as soon as you are able. If it's too hard you can leave and come back later.

Sigh... I just played through this game a couple months ago, and now you're making me want to play it again! This is my favorite Soulslike, and the only one I have beaten multiple times. The combat, the world, the story, its all amazing. And its too bad that the sequel did nearly all of it worse. I would love to see another Soulslike that uses a similar limb targeting/finishing move system as this. Its such a fun way to get new gear. And it adds so much variety to the combat, even if you're fighting basically the same enemies the entire time. Really, just more actual sci-fi soulslikes would be nice, too. This game's jank does take some getting used to, and there are some useful things the game never explains, so here are some tips I wish I knew when I started: Hit start during a slow motion finisher to pause and activate photo mode so you can truly appreciate the carnage you're causing! There is an option in the menu to make slow-mo ones happen more or less often if you want. You can also move the map in loading screens with the analog sticks. If you DON'T select a specific limb, like when you first target an enemy, instead of using the defense value of the specific limb your attack hits, it is always HALF of the enemy's TOTAL defense. This is useful for fighting enemies that don't have any unarmored parts to target. But, you are also much less likely to successfully cut a limb this way. EDIT: I realized I remembered this wrong. Its not half their total armor, its the average of all their armored parts, then halved. Enemies won't die from your attacks while you're holding the X button for a finisher, so you can keep hitting them to keep them staggered. Damage from other things, like fire or acid, can still kill them though, so be careful. Keeping your power core level low can be useful, because every time you collect enough techscrap to level up, it refills your injectables. So the less scrap you need the more often that can happen. Combine low core level with the techscrap multiplier that increases every time you kill an enemy without visiting the medbay, and you can keep going for quite while if you're good enough. You can beat the whole game at core power 10. So you can do the equivalent of a soul level 1 run if you want. While standing near the techscrap you drop when you die, it will regenerate your HP very slowly. This can sometimes be useful during boss fights, if you have enough time left before it disappears. RB and RT are NOT light and heavy attack, they are horizontal and vertical. You can do heavy attacks with both by holding the button, except on twin-rigged weapons. There are a LOT of different combos, so it can take a while to learn each weapon type. Especially because combos can vary, depending on what specific weapon you're using, and what body part you're currently targeting. Weapon proficiency is simply a damage boost, and not a very big one, either. Even if you focus a single weapon type, you probably won't notice much of a difference until the end of the game, or NG+ if you go that far. Each boss has a special way to kill them that will award you the better v2.0 version of their weapon with a special ability. For example: With PAX, the "easy" way to kill it is to hit it until the orange bar is full. Then, when it fires missiles at you, hide underneath it so it hits itself, and falls down. The v2.0 way is to destroy the armor on it legs, then hit them when it tries to stomp you to knock it down. Armor sets have set bonuses if you wear all six parts. Look in the "specs" tab of your inventory to see what the bonus does when you have one. Also, certain leg parts will protect you from acid, and certain helmets will protect you from poison gas. Dodging is always fast, but don't underestimate the power of blocking. You can perfect block if you time it right, which uses less stamina, and is more likely to stagger the enemy. Each weapon has a powerful counter attack you can do immediately after a block, perfect or not. Single-rigged weapons in particular have really powerful guard counter attacks. You can also dodge up or down with the right stick while blocking. This lets you hop over or duck under some attacks, and has a different special counter you can do afterwards. The damage of the dodge counter depends on how powerful the attack you dodged was. And finally, if you're playing on PC, you can change the medbay song to something else if you get tired of it. Just put whatever .wav file you want in the proper game folder.

Damm thats a lot of info, and a lot of good stuff i didnt know :D i guess the combat goes deeper than i thought and they dont really do a great job explaining it xb all the "tutorials" are just spread around the map on walls and stuff with the buttons and sometimes you can go by them and not even notice... also another question regarding the dlc! Does it matter when you start the western dlc? Do you need a certain power level? Or can you just do it whenever?
@doomspud6302
@doomspud6302 4 месяца назад
@@ruikiri Yeah, I didn't feel like I really understood how to properly play this game until my third playthrough. There is a LOT to learn, and they don't communicate much of it very well. But its super fun once you do understand it all. The western testing chambers are basically an optional challenge run/techscrap farm area. You can add modifiers to make things tougher, but enemies will also have better gear and drop more scrap. If you die, you lose everything you collected in that episode. So its really up to you if you want to try it early for a challenge, or wait a bit to make it easier. I mostly go there whenever I need some extra techscrap for upgrades, since you can get way more there than farming anywhere else. There is a door to access it somewhere in each of the main game areas. Now that you've gotten to Central Production, you can go in whenever you want. And once you've visited it from each door, you can also use it as a fast travel hub. Crafting the three basic western gear sets also unlocks new outfits for Warren in the medbay. Which BTW, you already have a couple alternatives to his blue jumpsuit, if you want a different style.

@@ruikiri I agree, TS1 does feel darker and personally I prefer it that way. IIRC TS1 has so much stuff around it's crazy: a bit of a conspiracy thriller, plus rogue AI, post-apoc vibes looming over, transhumanism & body horror, nihilistic ideas, the cost of technology & progress going out of control, and more. I remember reading many intriguing theories online about various story bits, even questioning the very reality of events occured (especially considering the endings). TS2 added factions, and threw some religious twists & subtexts into the mix. And while it might be realistic (like, I do believe there might form up a group of people translating the events through divine intensions and such), etc. etc. but it doesn't necessarily mean I like it just as much as simplier more packed, more intimate (for lack of better words) world of TS1. Heck, the whole TS2 feels like a giant redemption arc (or should I say Fall & Salvation monomyth) through the lens of spiritual retelling, while TS1 feels like a hero's journey through the Unknown, it's almost lovecraftian in a way.

@@ruikiri I also have the platinum trophy for The Surge 2. The world is more alive in the sequel. Much more npc's and quests. Also the maps are a little bit less of a confusing maze. This game man, this game is fckng RAD! Absolutely adoring it, loving it with my whole heart! Tbh I prefer it to sequel in almost every way, the visuals are solid, the setting is much dense (and yes, I do like how it's smaller in scale compared to Jericho City from TS2), the combat hits heavier, everything just feels & works better. To me probably the only thing that is objectively better in the sequel is directional blocking & parrying, now that's a huge one. Going back to TS1 combat after TS2 feels quite limited indeed. Other than that TS1 is absolute winner in my book. You know peeps like to sht on mid-2000s games' 'piss' filter but holy hell that 'burp' filter from TS2 first boss area (not the tutorial boss area) is just godawful, it makes me sick. I know it is explained in-game lore-wise but it doesn't help at all if you ask me. Once you get out of the tutorial (prison) area in TS2 the first impression is simply off-putting.
