It sold 25 Million records or even more - no song ever sold more records. It was THAT hit in the summer of 1969 (the year of the moon landing) - it gave you chills. Most of what the two friends (they met in 1962 at University) sang about back then, has already come to pass. Sadly. So sad also that nobody noticed the passing of Rick Evans in 2018 !! Wished he still were alive today!
Denny Zager is still alive and builds custom guitars at Zager Guitars in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rick Evans passed away in 2015 at the age of 72. The song's full title is "In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)"
These guys were ahead of their time, many things have come true, test tube babies, artificial limbs, life support systems, pills for mental illness, depression medication, its a shame they were considered one hit wonders.
Denny Zager and Rick Evans were born in Nebraska. This song topped the Billboard 100 for six weeks. It made it to the top of the UK popular charts, as well. Officially "One Hit Wonders."
My roommate at the girl's High School I went to, loved this song...she drove me nuts...everytime she came into the room she turned on the record player and played this song...so I drove her crazy with Abraham, Martin, and John...LOL
When this song came out in the 60s we laughed at the lyrics because it was so unbelievably but, I’m 66 and I’m not laughing now 😮 Robots are taking over and we are on the brink of WW3
Don't worry about the sound, IT IS NOT IMPORTANT, it's the lyrics. I summit to you that today in 2023 we are already living in 2525. Substitute MSM for that pill you took today. If you missed the 'Message' then listen again.... because you didn't use your ears...or your head!
That ending talking about man living on through starlight. And if you're far enough away it's actually yesterday when looking back at earth. At least what I picked up on anyway.
There is a video that goes with this, they are basically a one-hit wonder although they do have other songs I don't know any of them! The video is awesome, you should check it out!
I think Evans was the main singer. You need to see the video with the old silent movie Metropolis ss the video source. I've seen 5 different videos, and it's by far the best.
Adogg, I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time but today I had to subscribe again, which I didn't mind doing, but I just wondered why I had to do that? Did you renew or rename your channel?
Adogg, I think you weren’t really grasping the meaning of the lyrics because it was speaking of the destruction of mankind by advances in technology and science.
Zager Was the singer and writer of that song. They were a one hit wonder, so it would be very hard to find another of their songs. No they are not brothers.
You should try to see this one married to the Metropolis movie of almost a hundred years ago! THIS is just a boring music video! And no disrespect to the original artists!
The 60’s is easily the best decade EVER for great music. Check out the Bee Gees singing “Words” on the Ed Sullivan Show, for proof of my claim. You won’t regret it brother. ✌️
This song came out the same year I entered Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE, where Zager and Evans attended and met each other. The song was on the radio in Lincoln and then every where. Since then, the song has entered the ears and minds of millions of people with the song's prophetic visions. Interestingly, not much reference to Zager and Evans on the campus, which I visit a couple times each year. No need, it spread around the world.
Grew up with this song!! Talked about things they could have never known!! This was their ONE HIT WONDER!! Never put out another song as far as I know!!
i agree, this was their only song! i have their album and recalling back (many years) there were a couple of really good ones! take a listen on RU-vid. if you can find the album!
Hey Adogg! I haven’t heard this song in YEARS!! I don’t know which one is which- or their story- but I do remember hearing this song in my younger years…. It hit #1 in 1969 during the moon landing. Unfortunately, they were a “one hit wonder” and they never had another hit.
Musically it's very pleasant... But...the lyrics...did you hear ?... I would be interested in your thoughts about the message...1969 and the future they sang is happening sooner than they even thought...🌿🌿🌿
This a song of the future told years ago, but wait till the end when it's about the revelation, scare the shit out of you, and some of these predictions has already come true, yes love this song as you do prepare people
I don't care for this song myself . And to be honest I think you were just being nice, I really don't think you like it that much. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what i was sensing from your body language while you where listening to it.
