This is the story of how Amr Fahmy, a soccer fan working as administration for the CAF became the founder of Egypt's first-ever Ultras group, played an important role in bringing down a dictator during the Egyptian revolution, and inspired thousands in a campaign for justice for fallen comrades.
Before his premature death in 2020 he had risen to become Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football and uncovered corruption at the highest level.
It wasn’t until his death that the true scale of his achievements was revealed.
The script is written by James Montague and illustrated by Alice Devine.
Arabic subtitles available.

Thanks Tifo... i would love to see a similar type of video on Manchester United's first participation in the European Cup up to the end of the 57/58 season - the attitude of the FA before and after the Munich crash is a good example of English FA arrogance and insularity, and the defiance and flair of the Busby Babes is THE reason why Man Utd are still far more popular in Europe than any other british club. Here is an inconvenient truth: Until the advent of the internet, and people from the UK coming into regular contact with Americans, Australians and so on, we used 'Football' and 'Soccer' interchangeably and did not care to dispute the improper use of one term or the other. Evidence of this is everywhere, from the naming of Football computer games from the mid 90s (such as the very popular Sensible Soccer) or earlier that only came out in the UK or in the European region, to old videos from the mid 90s right back to the beginning of the sport and watching for which of the terms were used. I can just picture the old British Pathe videos where the narrator cheerfully says the word 'soccer' as if he gets paid per the use of it. We appear to have become rather touchy about the subject only due to what I would assume is a need to own the rights to determine what 'Football' is in a culture where people of any nationality meets people of any nationality daily, and competing definitions exist, despite our aforementioned carefree interchangeability: '"Harumph! We cannot allow the default definition of the word 'Football' to become 'game played mainly by Americans with Quarterbacks and funny helmets!'" We invented the word ourselves and used it happily until very recently. America didn't invent it for us. They took both words we gave them, but they already had a 'Football' so they used the OTHER word we told them was fine to use. It is as legitimate a word for Football as something like 'Rugger' is for Rugby (a sport which, by the way, has already had to change it's popular name for itself due to us demanding WE are 'Football' rather than them). I would suggest not becoming so uptight over it because it just makes us look like idiots. And furthermore: it's just not that important. EDIT: What's the betting the first reply in opposition to what I've just said is something along the lines of "It's 'not that important' yet you go and write a whole essay about it". I give 3 to 1 odds.

I’d also argue it’s class thing. Soccer was generally more used by the upper classes who own and control the FA etc., and presented pathe news. Certainly as the internationalisation of American football led to more people calling that football, and football soccer, people felt the need to claim the word back.
@andrewharing2637
@andrewharing2637 3 года назад
@@GuinessOriginal It was often used to differentiate it from rugby. If you read PG Wodehouse, for instance, he uses the word "football" to mean rugby, and never mentions soccer at all as far as I'm aware, because upper-cass people just didn't play it.
