Had mine for a couple of weeks you sound as impressed as I am with it. Totally awesome bit of kit has improved my mixes no end and my workflow is so much faster. I look forward to getting back into the studio every day since console 1 arrived. Excellent video BTW

The punch and sustain can make a loop sound like a drum machine and a drum machine sound like a loop, smiling ears!

Great demo! I just got mine, and have a beginner question. Is there're a way to select a random track in your DAW and have the Console 1 window automatically reflect the track you just selected? I've some film scoring templates with 800 tracks, and it's a pain to reach a specific track using the "page" button in the hardware.

Is there a way to select track to work on with out finding it on one of the circular buttons on the top of hardware? I want to be able to just click on the console 1 plug in in pro tools and start tweaking from the hardware? Is this possible?

Do you have to see the display of softube consol plugin to controll ssl channel strip or channel strip itself? Or you can mix without even opening it up and be in default DAW display doing other things and still be able to use controler for controlling ssl?

You need the display, but it pops does a show/hide thing so it's not always in the way of the DAW any more than any other plugin GUI

I mean if I insert console 1 plug-in on the 1st channel, I can see console 1 plug-in ONLY at the 1st channel instead of all channels. I think it inserts automatically all channels.

Thanks for this great review, and I'm actually thinking of getting this now. Just a quick question. Does this need an iLok for the software end? As I work on a Macbook I find these little USB dongles a complete nuisance, using up valuable USB slots. Thanks!

Thank you very much Very interesting, I was stuck in the past and never come across this device before.. Is this the type of system that also models the console on raw tracks? What I mean is, if you were to just load the console 1 plugin on all tracks, would it give it a certain sound the same way running tracks through the desk would back in the day?

Partially... meaning if you just turn up the Drive of the channels for whatever emulation you are running to whatever amount of drive u want you'll get input drive emulation, but it doesn't seek to model any analog summing characteristics of whatever board is loaded. You could try that Harrison mix software which is specifically designed to give you an emulation of an old Harrison harrisonconsoles.com but then of course you are no longer running your preferred DAW --- also there are other 'summing' emulations, one such example being from SLATE digital (you insert the plugin on every channel). I believe the SOS writers all tried it and loved the SLATE VCC even though they couldn't really identify why, but when it was switched out they missed it - i think that's what they concluded without re-reading the review (www.soundonsound.com/reviews/slate-vcc), and there are others like the SLATE afaik.

My machine could only run 19 tracks...With Logic pro X (64 bit mode) and 18 with logic pro 9 (32 bit mode). What do you think? cheers

i doubt any software can nowadays as you need to setup all the licenses which involves all sorts of registrations and then authorisations

I have is it worth running console 1 on a mac core 2 duo (2,53 ghz, 8 gig Ram)with logic pro X ? I think about 24 tracks plus 4 to 8 busses and a few delays and tsar r reverb ? Thanx

+arlandajim You should be fine, but i cant guarantee it - my 2014 macbook air which is a 1.4 dual core with 8gb ram gets about 25/26 tracks using Evan Logic Stress test - download it & try it on your machine: www.evan.se/logicprobenchmark/Logic_Multicore_Benchmark_Test.html - what result do you get (how many tracks)?

I guess this is exactly how the original consoles were but that Q shape on the EQ looks a lot more round than you can get in Logic's EQ. Anyone think that's a potential negative?

no the console 1 is purely a controller, there is no DSP processing within the unit and thus no round trip for audio. the console 1 simply controls the software which is native.

I set up console 1 with logic, and I opened console 1 at the 1st channel but it doesn't connect with whole channel. What is the solution?

+유학선 what makes you think that happens? you insert instances of console 1 on whatever channels you want, manually.You can isert any plugin such as console 1 into multipel channels by selecting/highlighting those channels. Then insert into one highlighted channel and it inserts into all of them at once.

Why is it so expensive though? It's basically a controller made to control one specific plugin. The plugin should cost between 249-349 if you look at what the other channel strips cost, and that controller is probably a cheap, made in China controller with a huge price tag.

you are buying the controller AND an SSL approved channel strip remember. the controller is steel construction, very well made.

Mid band freq are way off as on the real console ... cut at 300 hz and it's actually 200 hz ..ect ....
