Currently using the UF1 with my UF8 and UC1. if you'd told me I'd have all 3 this time last year I would think I lost my mind but theres no going back. I would say my time in cubase is 60% mouse and keyboard and 40% real buttons and knobs and to me thats a HUGE improvement.

Thank you for your insightful video. The jog wheel is smoother than the one on my old Mackie Controller. However, with the number of custom controls it has, there is a learning curve, and you won't figure it out without the tutorial videos and manual. They have White mode, Green Mode, and Yellow Mode with their differences. Scrolling the top 4 presets to their next presets, you have to use the arrow keys. In the plug-in mixer mode, you need to hold down the 360 button for a couple of seconds and change the setting from your DAW to the SSL Mixer. There is even a A/B button so it lets you hear it with the channel strip on and off. If you have a UC1, when you adjust the EQ, you will see the screen of the EQ on the display.

Very informative video, thanks!! Watching with interest as currently using a Studio Live 32 series 3, and Faderports 8 and 16 all linked simultaneously via Studio One. The biggest problem with the Faderports for me is that they need a bigger, flatter jog wheel down at the bottom of the unit. Doesn't work for me with this multi-purpose smaller knob much higher up as like to have the bottom of my palm on the desk whilst moving it back and forth. Much more comfortable. Been therefore using a Korg NanoKontrol Studio for this purpose so the UF1 would be a direct swap. The Korg MIDI driver is ridiculous for a number of reasons, hence been looking for an alternative. I also have a UC1 and for me one of the biggest bug bears is it's thickness. Even with the angled feet it sits so tall above the desk due to the depth of the unit at the front edge. Wish they had designed these units so the bottom edge sits closer to your work surface. So will be interesting to hear how you get on with it. Love the screens and can see already it's a unit that may fit very nicely with the rest of my setup. Will also be interesting if you test it with the faderport and UF1 at the same time in Studio One. There shouldn't be any issues but would be interesting if you can confirm.

Ok the longer i went in the video, the more I understand why it coast that much. The fact we can create userbanks to open things here and there is crazy useful for workflow. I had a Faderport 8 few years ago, sold it because it was ok but just useful for small moves. With UF1, I think we really can go deeper in the workflow to open tabs, windows and so on. Very interesting ! Thanks for sharing this.

SSL waited too long to release a transport module and didn't make it or the UC1 rack-able. By the time this piece came along, I'd already discovered Icon. It looks really great, though.

just to add, as I have my UF1 in front of me right now watching your video, the jog wheel is not plastic. You can distinguish plastic because it doesn't get near as cold as metal. Also by brushing it with your nails you can hear that characteristic ring that's very very high pitch, as opposed to the hollow and more low pitched plastic sound. Worth mentioning the manual is 137 pages but 100 of those are split into sections on the individual DAWs, so not so bad.

Great videos! I have a UF1 and a UC1… fabulous. I am running into a wall however. Every once in a while my ch encoder gets locked into only the output channels in my system…. Headphones, mains, alt etc. I simply can’t scroll thru the console channels…. SSL not really responding to this problem.

I have the UF1 I notice when setting up the controller. You shown SSLV-Midi Port 1 thru 2 with Source and Destination. When I am setting my up I have SSL-V Midi Port 1 thru 12 but I have no Source and destinations showing in the menu. Do you have any reason what could be causing this to happen? It seams the fader it working even using SSLV-Midi Port 1 in Receive From and Send to: Please let me know. Thanks!

I just purchased the UF1 and it seems this video is just outdated, there are multiple areas where the menus in the current SSL 360 app differs from the video.

Bro.Dave, I already have a Presonus Fader port one. I am not using it due to lag in fader. It takes few micro seconds to see fader in DAW move after Fader is moved. Is there the same lag in SSL UF1 when using Fader? I may upgrade to SSL UF1 just for good Fader.

I used a Presonus fader port and did not experience what you are describing. That is a un-usual condition and could be simply a defective unit or if you are plugging into a hub and not the computer itself? I am not sure that if you purchase the UF1 that the issue goes away. You may have something else causing the issue

It depends on if you really want that beautiful screen and if you are already in the SSL echo system. If the answer to those questions is no, then go with a less expensive option

Great! But, because of its Price Point - how does this compare to Avid Dock? I've been thinking about switching to Avid for a while now, although I really love Studio One. However, with Behringer and Faderport I always have midi errors that sometimes make it difficult to work. The EUCON protocol is very interesting.

I have the UF1. And now I wish that I never 👎🏾 have purchased it. Every time that I close out of Logic Pro. When I open Logic Pro again I can not use the “Jog Wheel” (which is Aluminum). I then have to go and install (See 6:19) over and everytime I start Logic Pro. Does anyone else have this issue on their MacBook 💻?

There appears to be latency between the UF1 fader and the fader appearing in your DAW. (See video at 15:12.) Is this actually the case, and is this normal?

I did not experience any latency at all. That could have been because I was using screen recording software to make this video.

Yes it does. You need to put in Plug-in Mode. Hold down the 360 button on the UF1 and press Plug In Mode at top.

Presonus controllers are cheap plastic toys with poor resolution, no jog wheel, and lacking knob encoders for versatile DAW control. The UF1 is premium quality made for professionals.

And the SSL stuff is 3-5 times the cost of the Presonus, so you would expect that the UF1 is higher quality and I believe I mention this in the video.

SLL mixing desks costing hundreds of thousands always had plastic knobs and fader caps. It was not an issue.
