Travel day 16 on our New York to Cape Coral Florida boat trip south along the intracoastal waterway in our 2006 341 Meridian Sport Bridge. I’m continuing on solo as I make the trip through Charleston Harbor to our next overnight anchorage at Church Creek.
In this episode, my daily engine room checks find a broken clamp on our PSS shaft seal that needs to be fixed before we continue on.
Follow along on our icw boat trip series as we head south to our new home in Southwest Florida.

Nice to see my hometown from a different perspective. I’ve always wanted to do this trip to include going up the Mississippi River north and then cross over to the ICW and take it all the way to Florida. I left Charleston in 1963 when I joined the US Army and moved around and 3 deployments and 10 years later (1973) decided I had enough. Now at 78 yrs that trip doesn’t seem possible. Live the dream and enjoy the trip!!!

You mention diving to check your prop. I was unaware this was a skill needed to be a boat owner, though it certainly makes sense. I would be interested in a video discussing this.

I can think of one more reason to check your thru hulls once you get that far south, snakes, you wouldn't want to wake up one morning, and find yourself, face to face with a water mocassin or a rattler/ coral snake, or once in Florida a python!

Great video! Hats off Captain on manning the ship solo. Thanks for sharing the ICW experience as well as your nuts to bolts engine room safety checks. We are gathering a wealth of information from your travels to help us on our fall cruise from Virgina to Fort Pierce Florida. Safe travels Captain!

@5:00 I cant even remember how many people I had to go rescue in the fire boat. that cut gets really nasty at times.

From Charleston. The wake zone you mentioned has been there for only a year or two. The ICW directly in front of the Marina has been there forever but they just recently extended it all the way to the bridge during summer months. It sucks when it’s hot out to have to go slow for like 2 miles. Cool that I know exactly where your at

Really love the Solo stuff. It helps when youre short on crew. How much further before you take crew on? Not all the way down to Florida??!! Bravo for you if it is!

Wife, and I have been enjoying your channel very much on episode 16 right now. Question on your log that you have every time you stop. Do you have to enter all the information in? Or is that something that's mosty automatically done through the computer thank you.

The basic data is manual entry. The spreadsheet does some calculations for me like total fuel usage, miles, etc. On the recap video at the end of the series I discuss the spreadsheet in depth and provide a link to the file itself.

I'm curious to know, why don't you use a second anchor to minimize your movement?
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs 4 месяца назад
I’ll use a stern anchor when I don’t want to swing in protected anchorages but with heavy winds and tidal current I want my boat to swing to keep bow into wind. A Bahamian moor would be better but it’s difficult to setup solo.

Do you start reversing a bit before the anchor goes down or is it just a pile?
@AdventuresofHappyOurs

Start reversing slowly as it drops to seabed.
