I love your realism man. You make the right decisions for any situations you make in bad weather. Most outdoor type channels make every scene seem like 110% chance of sunshine and rainbows.

The Cascades are the best! Although I am biased of course. Surprisingly nice trout in that lake! The rain didn't necessarily bother so much as I knew I could redo this route later this year.. probably without rain. Thanks for watchin!

Except for the mosquitoes and weather, that certainly look like the perfect adventure. I occasionally Do the same in Michigan's U.P. So peaceful and quiet, No scream and kids everywhere, No bobbers swinging in the trees, And suicidal fish. The kind of adventures everybody should do at least once in their life.

@timjones8184

I mentioned previously that I was 60 miles south of you this particular weekend. Let the record show that I also got hammered by mosquitos; they destroyed me. I saw some thunder and lightning, but thankfully missed the rain. Awesome video. I think your fish were bigger than mine!
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Where were you? Chelan Sawtooth? Yeah the mosquitos are gnarly! I bought a new toy to help mitigate them. Can't wait to give it a shot. The fat fish in this lake were a surprise to me... hard to tell on camera but they were chunky!
@lukeodell176
@lukeodell176 Год назад
@@CascadeBackcountry I was southwest of the Sawtooth Ridge, between Lake Chelan and Glacier Peak. Bug spray would buy me about 10 minutes of reprieve and combined with shifting winds I was able to stick it out, but my elbows turned into giant knobs of mosquito bites! I'd get in the tent as fast as I could, but 20 mosquitos would get inside anyway. I'm interested in this new mosquito toy you mention!
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Oh nice! Yeah same here, I'd put on bug spray and be ok for a bit but it didn't seem to last long. I hear ya about the elbows! My wife was like WTF happened to your knees and elbows... mosquitos! The mosquito repellent thing is a Flextail gear Tiny Repel. Battery operated mosquito thing that supposed to work at higher elevation (the Thermacell does not). We'll see how it works in August!

Those were some great fish! I have a guy a ride at a trailhead the other day and it turns out he works for Nemo in Seattle. I told him I’m familiar with Nemo rents because this guy I watch on RU-vid has one.
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Hard to get a feel on film but they larger than expected and quite large for an alpine lake at 7000 feet! Does Nemo not pay their employees enough to afford cars? Haha Someday I'll de a review of this tent.. I've used it in just about every situation imaginable!

That was a hardcore trip over with very little sleep but it looks like it was worth it to me. Those fish were really nice. Yesterday I checked out a small lake on the trail to Mnt. Pugh, got skunked don’t think there’s any fish in it. But hey, I got to check off another lake off my list. Keep up the great videos!

@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Thank you! That is the Kuhl Engineered Hoody. It works great and fits pretty well plus I dig the color selection but it does have a bit of a rough, next to skin feel compared to some other sun shirts. I really like the REI Sahara sun hoodies... plus they're like half the cost!

Okay how many lakes are there and how many have you visited? Maybe we can treat this as a guess how many gumballs in the jar game with your veiwers ha ha. Prize is a autographed rooster tail from Mr Cascade Backcountry himself! My guess you've visited 140 lakes thusfar.

Even though your luck hasnt been that great of late, at least your out there giving it your all. Btw if you didnt know amascam has fishing hats with built in bug net. Unzip it and i comes out. Major game changer for me out here in in these bug infested woods in pnw. May wanna check them out, or just buy a head net and put your baseball cap over it. Also bear hunting starts next month, are you and your budy going?
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Agreed! Despite the rain, I've still had a few great adventures. I have a bug net but for some reason I just hate wearing it. I ordered a battery powered mosquito repellent thing. Should be here next week! I am really hoping to get out for a bear hunt. We'll see if I can sneak away from the wife n kids 🤣

@@CascadeBackcountry Thermacells are great if your not moving around and its not to windy. Example, tree stand, ground blind, sitting around a campfire, hanging it from your neck on the lanyard while fishing, but once you get walking or the wind get to heavy its not nearly effective. Just tell the wife you going shopping in the woods for some steaks, burgers, jerky, and some cooking lard. 😁 Heck with the price of meat nowadays its cost effective to go out and shop in the woods. If you get a really big one it could feed your family for a spell. Also if you limit out on 2 of them you'll be set till grouse/deer season if not longer.
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
@@Longtrailside I have a Thermacell... BUT... they don't work at this elevation due to lack of atmospheric pressure. I think they're only good below 6k feet. That's why I ordered the battery powered one. Yeah I'd really like to get a bear! Definitely make a few roasts and landyeagers out of it. My kid loves em!

Total drag about having to abort your mission. Can't say anyone would blame you, though. Have you ever tried those Thermacell devices that repel mosquitoes? I've heard others say they work amazingly well. Might be worth every ounce to have that in your arsenal. Those head nets are priceless too. Those were beautiful fish. I was shocked to watch you letting them go !
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Rain is following me this year. Still a great adventure though! I do have a Thermacell... BUT... they don't work at the elevation I was at due to lack of pressure. Already ordered a different, battery operated one that will work! Yeah, I originally intended to catch and cook one of them fishes but I was tired AF and it was very windy. Next time 😁
