This album came out of nowhere for me. Never realized something this good was sitting just waiting for me to find. Took a while, but I'm glad it comes into my life
i have been listening to them since right after holy split came out. finding out that origami angel is gaining the recognition from people that are not a part or familiar with the emo music scene makes me smile
This album is nothing short of perfect. I am SO here for music reviews, you got awesome taste! A album/music recommendation video would be really neat.
I’ve just recently come back to this album after a few years, loved it when it first came out and for a while after that I adore how connected this album feels and is positive and introspective at the same time It’s just such a feel/good album while still being able to deal with heavy subject matter
I remember listening to this album on loop on Spotify, and the way the album loops makes it sound continuous, so I was so confused because I was under the impression the album was 2 hours long 😂😂
Dude thank you for introducing me to this band. Listening to their music really brought me out of a bit of a slumped. Great content as usual and I love that you're branching out to non-rhythym game content.
These two are from my hometown, and after moving overseas for college, this album means so much to me, especially 24 Hr Drive-Thru. Whenever I'm feeling homesick and depressed, that song is my personal cure. (Fun fact: "Kenilworth Avenue to 193" is actually the route to the local McDonald's!) It always makes me happy to think that so many other people love this band from my random DC suburb.
Great video, I only discovered Gami this year at 2000 Trees festival when they were doing a UK tour. I went to see them having heard the great reviews from their shows with Prince Daddy and was absolutely blown away. First thing I did when I left the festival and got some signal on my drive home was was play Somewhere City.
Im so thankful that you made this video, and not only that but for always talking about the emo bands you listen during those streams way back when. if not for that I would have never discovered this band. This band has genuinely saved my life in my darkest days and continues to do so. i love rewatching this video and will continue to comment my appreciation despite it being a retired channel (i watch ur runner boi channel dw)
One thing I wish you mentioned was how in The Air Up Here, after the overwhelming vocals the line that stands out before the breakdown was "I feel so lost" instead of " _when_ I feel so lost" and that one word difference has so much importance cuz it's like, at the start of the album he says how when he feels so lost he wants to go to Somewhere City, but at the end when he did arrive, he starts to realize he feels lost after arrivig in the city and it kind of makes a paradox between him going to Somewhere City because he feels lost, but then being there also makes him feel lost, so... where would he go?
This video is stellar! My friend introduced me to this album earlier this year and it has quickly become one of my all time favorites, and it's awesome to see someone break it down like this! Awesome job!
Found 24 hour drive thru on etterna and I wanted more because I really enjoyed the song. This really branches me out and exposes me to more absolute bangers. Thank you!!
Ever since this video dropped 9 months ago, I've been listening to somewhere city for quite some time over and over. I always comeback to the album because of the story or meaning behind the entire album addiontally, the vocals are very raw and touching which is why I also comeback to the album. When I first saw this video I was able to relate and understand the story. This video motivated me to listen to the album with an open mind because of Etennie's dedication to go in depth towards "somewhere city." The detailed analysis, description, and interpretation was a good way to convince me to listen to "somewhere city" This is also my first time to listening to the "emo" genre that is kinda more leanient on the positive side. If Etennie were to make a similar video on a different song album or genre, I would definietly listen to it on loop just like "somewhere city"
One of the best albums of the last 10 years. It never fails to get me out of a slump and reminds me life doesn’t have to be so bad with friends around you.
im in the fragging community of Phantom Forces on Roblox (i know, lame as hell), and one of the larger members of the community named spirals used both Welcome to... and Skeleton Key in some of his newer videos. those videos introduced me to both the fragging community as well as origami angel. the point is that when i heard the opening notes to both of those songs, i became that meme of Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at a screen lmao
I found out about Origami Angel thanks to Good Kid's short recommendation shortly after they released Mimi's Delivery Service. Title Track being my favorite song of all. It is a great song, and it grow a lot in me, alongside Brightest Day. And as someone who is very shy, closed and insecure with my few friendships, I both can relate to some of the songs and inspire me to be more outgoing with my friends. It is a struggle,as my hobbies are uncommon for most people of my age and country's culture, but I try bit by bit.
insane how you introduced me to two of my favorite bands (origami angel of course, and even more with glass beach) your music side (especially indie rock) and recommendations have literally saved me, whether indirectly or not, godspeed to this channel 🫡
I listened to somewhere city so much a few years back and it really carried me through a lot of my self esteem issues I had. I love origami angel a whole lot
I left a comment on this video a month ago but this video is seriously one of the best on RU-vid in my opinion, the way you summarise the lyrics is spot on and you point out things i didn't notice despite this being one of my Top 3 albums of all time. The closing track is probably one of my favourite closers on an album i've ever heard. Origami Angel rock.
I only got into the band a couple of weeks ago through Spotify recommendations, and I gotta say your analysis of the second track was exactly the thought process that made me like them so much. I had thoroughly enjoyed glass beach and dogleg and it just felt like the right mix of loud, screamed and wholesome.
Doing the Most EP was what got me into them, and then seeing them on their Gen 3 "tour" in a warehouse with no more than 20 people made me a super fan. Crazy that the next time I saw them was after Gami Gang dropped and the entire venue was sold out with the entire crowd being the pit
My friend kept telling me to listen to this album and I did, I went though it once and didn't think about it much but now I know why, I know so much more. Thanks man
I appreciate you for expanding to new interesting topics like this, keep doing you, man! Love this video and the way you describe the songs to really immerse things.
1:16 YOOOOOO THATS COMANDER SALAMANDER, ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS BANDS. HE DA DRUMMER LIAM CRONE. Once I got the notif for this vid I was like "bet I wanted to get into emo anyways" and then he started talking about origami angel and I was like :o and then Etienne was all like *mentions something one of my best friends made* Pogger
@@TheFlyingSqurrel you love to see your homies get the love they deserve. Guy has been in Berkelee for like two years now, been playing non-fucking-stop for 7ish I think. He is probably the best drummer I know by far, a beast if you would
@@TheFlyingSqurrel also check out the band 'prince daddy and the hyena', mainly the ep 'adult summers' its only 9 minutes so it's a great introduction to them, they from the same area
