I really have have a lot of love for Sonic CD and the whole time travel gimmick in general! Your rom hack is something I've wanted for a long time! I love it, keep it up!
The new time machines are a good idea. You don't have to keep te speed like with the signals but you won't travel in time by accident like it could happen with the boxes (it's easy to be rolling for the ground and break one by accident) .
Holy sh*t I love that Hill Top Zone in the Past! I also like the new options. That new "Time Machine" is a nice idea! This keeps getting better and better. Good work!
This project is really good, but I want to make some fixes: 1- Yes, you can make the Past/Future Sign as Default 2- In Hill Top, if we go to the past, he needs have a Little of characteristics from Emerald Hill, because even Christian confirmed what Hill Top was some Future Emerald Hill (Or Past IDK), so yeah 3- Ideas for another levels: Aquatic Ruin, if he have Past inself, he becomes a Local full of Ruins, no water, but just ruins and Plants, with a little variety of Badniks, but alot of a ancient Civilization, Wing Fortress can be an zeppelin, because if he is an Big Airship, his past can be an zeppelin, also an Reference of Sky High in Sonic 2 SMS
I love the new Time Machines! Not only do they work right when you get to them but you don't have to worry about accidentally going into the wrong time period. For example, the monitors may be very quick but it's easy to mistake them from a sheild or speed shoes when going at high speeds. I'm really impressed by your efforts and porting Chaotix music is the Icing on the Cake! You know Door Into Summer HAS to be somewhere!
Actually, Door into Summer is one of the many Chaotix songs I refuse to port; the Genesis can't play the music properly on its' own, so some songs just sound empty on their own. Door into Summer is one of them. I'm glad you like the time machines, though :3
Time posts would be a good default, especially if the Past Hud sign thing from CD appeared to signal that you still have the Past aura in case you accidentally slow down during running fast.
Oh god, that terrible slow hill top beta music... In all honesty, this is looking great! Considering to add ancient labyrinth zone and hydrocity zone markings in aquatic ruin zone’s past? Or maybe even a save data system?
I hope this hack gets into this years SHC2018, and also can you work on a stable version for it if you finish it? Tell me and ill download it!Also a side note I don't know how to use ROMs. So you might wanna tell me how to do it.
pacguy is working as hard as she can on getting this stable for this year's hacking contest; please have some patience. I know you're excited, but ROM hacking does take a lot of time and life has tendency to make finding that time more than a little difficult. As far as actually playing SEGA Genesis ROMs, have you by chance tried google? Google (or Yahoo, bing, whatever you use) should always be your first resource for finding basic info such as that. There are also some videos on this very site that cover that information too. After all of that, if you're still having issues, then I may be able to help you out, but please try to figure it out using google or youtube tutorials first.
I do have patience for this years hacking contest, This is what im supporting for at least getting into the top 5 but im just saying i don't know how to play Sonic Hacks OK.
I always thought of Labyrinth and Tidal Tempest as the same Zone..... but Tidal Tempest is more near the surface of the area and Labyrinth is a little deeper down into the water cave.
YES! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED! I do have a couple suggestions though. 1. Could you add some more nature to Casino Night Past, such as real palm trees as opposed to the virtual ones? 2. Also, maybe add some changes to the seesaws in Hilltop zone, such as some vines, and maybe replace the badniks on them to something different. Other than that, great job! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product, the futures especially.
Did Tails just time travel and was still in the spot he time traveled from like in Sonic CD? Dude you have massively improved this hack from my point of few like that with the Time Posts, to keep with the spirit of CD I'd say have those as the default and of course keep the alternatives. This is turning out very well, I hope you keep up with those new sprite changes as I really liked the new tree for Emerald Hill Past. Looking good and keep it up! :)
This is looking pretty good, honestly. It's very functional, yes, but I believe the Time Machine thingies should be the default, but that's just my opinion. I like the way you use the prototypes and betas as a base for the appearances of the past zones. Nice profile pic, by the way. Anyways, thanks for reading. Keep up the good work.
It might just make the development longer since they have to find certain sprites for all of the moves Sonic is able to do here. Sonic 2 and Sonic CD are already here at least.
Here's an idea! If you're gonna add Hidden Palace, then it should be like this: Present: Normal Zone Past: A normal rocky cave, based on the Rock Zone concept GF: Hidden Palace from Sonic 3&K BF: A fusion between Lava Reef Act 1, and Mystic Caves
Oh BTW, if your planning on doing it then: #1: you need to enhance level select and #2: you have only a corrupt map to work off, so... Unless you can lift it from the beta, good luck trying.

I wish "past" music wasn't just slowed versions of the ordinary tracks with little remixing. Any plans to shake them up? Also I have problems with the CD sign posts, in that the warp can get lost if you come to a halt near the end. If you remove that blunder, then signs would be A-OK. Perfect, even.
AstroTibs I actually never added the ability to "lose" a signpost. I agree with you on that. As for the music, I get where you're coming from. I'm not very good at music stuff yet.
The Sega Genesis has limitations, I'm afraid; random RU-vid videos wouldn't sound very good on it X3 Also, no one seems to have done past/future remixes of Sonic 2 levels, anyways....
I don't think the Genesis can handle all that music. . .look at Sonic 3 & Knuckles! It needed two cartridges for it's soundtrack. Now imagine 4 versions of each stage in the game. . .it's huge.
Oh, it can totally handle all that music; in fact, I still have somewhere between 10 - 30 music slots left to fill. And if I really wanted to, I could do something stupid to have 100s of extra spaces for music. The hardest part would be getting music for it in the first place...
You know how in EHZ in Sonic 2 in the underground sections there were a lot of little tunneled out areas with monitors and springs and ring in them? Well considering it's called "Emerald Hill" you could have those little goodie sections walled off and put emeralds or time stones in the walls are a decoration in the past and/or good future versions as a way of showing a little bit of story. Like maybe Robotnik/Eggman went in with a drill and drilled into the walls to get those emeralds and that's why there are random drilled out sections in Emerald Hill present.
I like the way the new stages look. Will you, or would you be adding a feature to allow playthroughs of just the Past or Future stages "normally," without the need of time travel?
Calvin Hedgewolf Maybe. That's a neat idea I had a while back. Push comes to shove, you could time travel in EHZ and just stay in that time period for the whole game.
Sign posts option seems to be good as a default one, no matter if you make it a default or not the only thing I want here is the green flying up sparkling cutscene (it would add +3000 to the feeling) Also you should definitely hire someone to do the music, graphics and level design for "other times" The whole project has a huge potential, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and wish you have fun with it 😊😊
im confused, how do u get the level select? every time i go into "1 player" it only brings up 4 zones. and when i do the sonic 2 level select code it does nothing. pls help
Are you going to include peelout animations for Tails and Knuckles, to be similar to Sonic's peelout animations? You can probably make them look like the ones used in Sonic Mania, or they can be fanmade, like in the fangame Sonic Axiom. Sorry if I bothered you BTW!
Hey, I just noticed something about Casino Night Zone Past. Sonic and Tails are still on the level's blocks. I don't want you to pay more attention to that little detail than anything else, so I'll keep it brief and just say that I think it'd be better to have their faces removed and replaced by something else for the stage to show off how they went to the past, where they aren't relevant because Robotnik (or aggmen or whatever you like) has only just started his plans and Sonic hasn't done anything yet.
Hill Top Zone Bad Future: Due to constant Earthquakes and Tremors caused by Robotnik's badnik generators, Life is not sustainable there. Plant life is wiped out, lava is everywhere, and only robots are able to be sustained there. Hill Top Zone Good Future: Hill Top is more like a dormant volcano, and life is flourishing there. Casino Night Zone Bad Future: Robotnik takes over Casino Night Zone, and all the slot machines are rigged. Casino Night Zone Good Future: Sonic frees Casino Night Zone from Eggman, and all slot machines don't let you lose rings.
I noticed you mentioned that there are a few errors to fix? It seems like Sonic is green in the slots in Casino Night Zone. Is it possible to tweak the palette and make him blue again?
He's red and green because Knuckles colors override the blues. That's not something I can properly revert (at least, not without making Knuckles blue :Y). That's the same reason why I replaced Metal Sonic with Metal Knuckles; he suffered similar palette issues when Knuckles was active. Knuckles in Sonic 2 actually has different knuckles artwork for the slots; I'll probably just use that instead.
Can I please have the link? When I went to any other zones than Em Hill, Aquatic R, Oil ocean, and death egg, there was a illegal instruction! That´s a problem in the SHC 2015 release.

In fact I have some ideas for Aquatic Ruin Zone too. You know the tikipoles that shoot arrows at you? well in the bad future you can replace the animal faces with Eggman's face. And for a little level layout difference remove the fallen old logs in the Past and Bad Future. Remove them from the Bad Future altogether leaving holes in the ground for different paths but in the Past replace the fallen logs with big tall living trees that act as a wall stopping you from going through certain areas in the past. In the good future keep the logs but also add in trees that this time are little and background tiles. And you can also add Coconuts as an enemy in the Past version of the Zone
Shouldn't past Hill Top Zone resemble Emerald Hill Zone to some extent? I think it would br neat considering Hill Top is just a pallette swap of Emerald Hill.
Could add some of those Marble Garden Zone arrow shooting face minibosses into Hill Top Past for decoration or as an actual obstacle that shoots arrows
Really cool progress ! Can you add more options like the sprites of the charcters we wanna use. (Choose the Sonic cd sprites,sonic 3 sprites and mania if you can .)
I'd love too, but I'm not sure how to do that yet. I'm hoping to eventually get someone who actually knows how to edit the music to make remixes at some point in the future.
Is there any plan to make the stages look and sound more unique than just a recolor and slowed down versions of the songs? Song-wise, I know that a guy named Grassinio has a couple Sonic 2 Past and Future remixes you could use, and I’m sure he’d help you out
I got ideas for Chemical plant zone: Past - A "In construction" City where there are still trees around, there is no chemicals in the tubes yet. Bad Future - A polluted metropolis with green toxic waste replacing the water (It's still safe to go in it). Good Future - A nice cityscape with fresh blue water and a cyan sky.
Hill top zone of the past can be more cheerful and less quiet removing the lava that still had not and in the future of hill top zone could be calmer with more modern structures but with music faster and not as slow as normal hill top zone
Umm Pacca In May 30, 2019 I discovered something weird. if I go to the future in Aquatic Ruin Zone Eggman is glitched and the bikinis are tranpolines. maybe someone can fix the glitch
I Have A Minor Little Idea. In The Past, The Mountains In The Background Could Be Smaller, And The Lava Could Be Lower. In The Good Future, The Mountains Could Be A Bit Bigger. For The Bad Future, Something Could Of Happened To The Mountains, Like Having Their Top Cut Down To Be Replace With An Evil Factory.
I think you should add the time posts in natural zones like emerald hill, hill top, aquatic ruin, etc. And time machines in artificial zones like casino night, metropilis, death egg, oil ocean, etc.
Have you considered adding the dropdash from sonic mania? You probably get asked that a lot, but still, would be neat to have it. I also had an idea that for the metal sonic race (since i think it's in the game, right?) I thought it would be a nice detail to have tails and knuckles only shortcuts, since they would need to cheat a little to beat metal sonic, meanwhile sonic would need to beat him fair and square. What do you think? EDIT: Better idea, maybe you could put speed shoes on visible places that sonic can't jump to, but tails could fly and knuckles could climb to them.
