Fun fact: The dev team showed a WIP version of this track to the original producer for Skies of Arcadia to gather commentary and suggestions for how it's going. As the track played out, she was reportedly moved nearly to tears at how faithfully they had translated the vision and spirit of the original game. Now that's some good work from Sumo!
One thing you never notice in higher difficulties is how well timed the music is to the track progression when there isn't any interruption. It starts out with Vyse's theme, soaring and adventurous during the first lap as you get to go through the town and see all the ships and marvel at how cool it all looks. Then about the point all the bad guys show up and blitz the place for the second lap, the song shifts into Military Facility, a tense and somewhat desperate sounding song. But then by the time you hit the final lap, it rolls back over to Vyse's theme to accompany the Delphius arriving on the scene to save the day.
The only thing worse than nostalgia is unsatisfying nostalgia. Seeing the Delphinus, and the Hydra, and Pirate Isle... oh man... too many fucking feels. Just make a sequel, please!!!!
I was awestruck when all those Valuan ships started destroying those blue rogues' ships at port - I was more awestruck when I saw the Lynx and the Hydra seemingly lead the assault. But I was straight-up floored when I saw the Delphinus come to the rescue. We may not be the producers or executives that worked on Skies of Arcadia but I can say that I was almost moved to tears when I saw that beautiful ship streak across the skies again. Moonstone Cannon! Fire!!
One of the best parts of Transformed IMO, that the track actually changes as you go through the laps. Also funny story I remember the first time I saw the Delphinus break through the smoke on the final lap, I remember cheering, then I said "I think I can see Aika and Fina cheering me on!"
@@afifjawa8036 In the original game, The Valuan empire's ambition was basically world conquest. The Blue rogues were pirates that protected civilians and kept the skies free so they came into conflict often.
Correct me if I am wrong, but these are all the references: Skies of Arcadia fans can expect to find ships and other features like the Delphinus, the Lynx, the Hydra, the Albatross, the Cygnus, Generic Valuan Ships and generic Blue Rogues Ships, Rhaknam the arcwhale and Pirate Island (recognized by the windmill). Moonstone showers can also been seen falling by the Silver Moon. Also, I think Rhaknam was cut in the Vita version. I think the 3DS cut it and maybe many other things (due to its hardware power), but I do not have this version. And the music is there, obviously. : )
It's not even just the careful attention to detail that gets me, this song is so perfectly arranged for the track too. Lap 1 is delightful with some intensity, then you hit Lap 2 and it changes to the infiltration theme as the ports and ships are being ravaged, then finally on Lap 3 it returns to triumph as Vyse and Co rush in on the Delphinius to save their comrades. I don't know how intentional that was, but damn if it wasn't that's a great coincidence.
so never played skies of arcadia but this is my favorite track and song in the game and ever since i played this level I have fallen in love with the game only problem is legends cost about $189 on amazon... Sega you need an HD version of skies of arcadia
I heard the creator of SoA/l saw this in development and cried because it looked so good, me I saw the Delphinus and was like "Lead me to victory" for the next Sonic Kart game they should keep the all-star mode but if ya in a character specific level have the level help you out instead of all-star mode
According to Eurogamer's review of this game, Skies of Arcadia's original producer was moved close to tears when Sumo Digital showed her this track. I was too. This is such an awesome, fantastic re-creation of one of my favourite games ever.
Yeah, I had a massive wave of nostalgia related goosebumps when that happened. It's one of the reasons why I tried to hard to be in first place for the final lap. If you look at lower-sea level, you can even see the purple gigas (or another arkwhale) from time to time. Oh, and Belleza's ship - The Lynx - makes an appearence at some point.
Seeing the delphinus fly again was spectacular. The potential behind a new soa game is huge, sky ship cannon battles alone would be phenominal as a gaming concept. Worlds adrift is trying to take up the mantle but nothing would beat a new soa
I'll be honest, when you hit Lap 3, I almost jumped out of my chair. I got goosebumps when the Delphinus busted in! Man, how awesome would a new Skies game be now a days? ._.;;
What would have made this level more awesome would be the Hydra dropping the armor plating below it on the final lap and firing the Hydra Cannon at the Delphinus and then the Delphinus firing the MoonStone Cannon to sink the Hydra. Hands down my favorite RPG on the Dreamcast and top 5 of all time. The ship battles were my favorite part and the ship battle themes goes well in World of Warships or pretty much any game that has ship to ship battles.
Buried under the new Nights, Billy Hatcher, Jet Set Radio, Ristar, Alex Kidd, Panzer Dragoon, etc etc in Sega's forgotten stuff dungeon. Toe Jam and Earl and Shenmue just barely clawed their ways out.
Excellent nostalgia SEGA! The Hydra, Pirate Isle, ship battles, and topping it off with the Delphinus (seems smaller than I remember) at the end! Having Vyse race victoriously through it was awesome.
mike It’s the same guy as the original. The thing is, they didn’t have any archive audio they could make work for this game..:so they tracked him down and got him in a recording booth. It had been a long time, which might explain why he sounded different.
This game would be even better if it also had Aika and Fina. I just finished the first disc of Skies of Arcadia and it's one of the best JRPG's ever made.
Unlocking Vyse and this stage was my first priority after getting this game a million years ago. I don't care about getting a sequel, just having a steam port with some achievements is good enough for me. The first game was such a complete story. You could nick pick it, sure, but for me personally Skies is the perfect game. Ideally I'd love for them just to expand on the game if anything like they did for the gamecube. I don't want to get greedy but, yeah great game and always an emotional moment to see little tributes like this and in Valkyria chronicles as well.
I agree, it's amazing. I'll be playing on it again when I get around to doing the Cup that it's part of - with my newer recording settings. (More colour, higher bitrate/quality) :)
Yeah! I noticed the arcwhale (since Rhaknam is well...) and the Lynx too! I found it funny that the Lynx was right in front of the Hydra. We all know how that one ended, lol. I really hope Sega will show some more love to the Skies series...
I don't know if Vyse says this in the english version, but in the japanese version one of his lines are "Are you seeing this, Aika?" It's a pretty sweet line, but when I learned that Aika's voice actress had died before this game was released, it makes me sad :'(
Connor it has been a long time but I'm pretty sure that it's a remix of the theme that plays when you find the purple whale and get shot down by ramirez' ship
I hope so, now that they've made so many models for this day - it's looking more likely than ever! I just wish I practiced a little more before this video, did a few stupid crashes because I had only played it on the Europe release day. lol
Because one level is easier to make then an entire new game/HD remake? Don't get me wrong. I want one of those (especially with how Sega just keeps teasing us with SoA stuff).
Anyone who is stupid enough to think that SEGA has no franchises outside of Sonic needs to play these games. And anyone who thinks that SEGA can't make good games anymore. Good god this game brings me to tears with nostalgia. SEGA for life.
Well, they clearly must have got something right, because when Shuntaro Tanaka, one of the directors of the original Skies of Arcadia, was shown this stage, it apparently brought him to tears.
