I find it hilarious how for some reason Phantasy Star collection on gameboy it can sometimes crash for some reason I never had any gameboy game crash on me before

I haven't seen many Scott Stash videos but the way this one ends so abruptly and just how casual it is reminds me of some old RU-vid video series, I love it. Great video
You should watch more if you enjoy! I think all of Scott’s endings to his videos are funny in their own way he always includes a funny/surprising cutoff at the end.

You actually can have Knuckles on the Title Screen in Sonic Origins, it's just a little weird. You have to select him in the game, and then return to Sonic 2's Title Screen. Also, the blurry pixels in Sonic Origins got fixed.

I think the reason Sega opted for M2 to port the game several times before origins, is because they wanted to preserve the experience as it was on the genesis. And M2 is one of the best at doing that. Origins breaks that streak because they wanted to create a version of the games for "today's audience." They left IOS versions to Whitehead because he had already created Sonic CD for them on it and was probably pitching to Sega to do the other two.

I would just like to mention that the "smoothing filter" that exists in Sonic Origins has been made into a togglable option as of an update (that was probably released after this was recorded), and now it has much sharper image quality. Looks a whole lot better.
Had a moment about 6 min into this that i often have when watching scotts stash vids, "what am i doing why is this how i spend my time and attention" but then i remembered how poorly sonic ran on rhe gba compared to the original genesis release and unfortunately these are the things i am most passionate about in life for some reason
Especially the compilations made by Digital Eclipse. They made collections for games by Atari, Capcom, Blizzard, SNK, even Disney and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

If I hadn't stopped renewing NSO Expansion Pass, I'd have 4 versions of Sonic 2 on my Switch. But I'm more amazed at the fact that I have two versions of Alex Kidd in Miracle World on there as well.
I actually opted to buy the Sega Genesis collection on Steam, because yes while I can simply download these ROMs off the internet, Genesis collection on PC has an amazing feature that I love. A folder labeled uncompressed ROMs, and inside that folder is every single ROM that the collection uses in standard formats, meaning you can just chuck it into an emulator or on a flash cartridge and play it that way. I managed to grab the whole collection on a sale through I think it was fanatical, it was absolutely worth it.
Only the Japanese version of Phantasy Star 4 is in the ROMs folder which is kind of annoying. I had to "acquire" that one for my MiSTer while all the other ROMs are from that collection. I have the full collection as well (honestly still worth it even without the Sonic trilogy) and it's introduced me to Shining Force 2. I'd recommend it to anyone who's willing to do a bit of digging in the files and a different emulator like BlastEm.

I personally feel its better to consider Origins and Origins Plus the same. If you buy it twice, the Switch treats them as the same thing. It won't create a new icon on the Home Screen As much as some people don't like renoving the lives system, I felt so much better about special stages in Origins and bit have to worry about the limited entry points
I never would have imagined that Scott would make a video like this because I was just thinking about how there is virtually almost 25 ways one can play Sonic 2 in the modern age
There's technically five versions if you count the Game Gear version included with Sonic Origins Plus. It's not the same game at all but it's *a* Sonic 2.
They actually removed the smoothing filter in Origins in a recent update, so that's nice. For what it's worth I think Origins is the best official version of the classic Sonic games now
yeah origins is pricy, but it goes on sale often (which is how i got it). and stuff like the cutscenes, drop dash, challenges, museum, and stylish presentation make it a really nice collection for people who love the best of classic sonic. it's basically just fanservice sure but it's cool
Honestly, I don’t really know why people were so mixed on Sonic Origins. Like, I think it’s the best way to play the classic Sonic games. Like, I do agree that some of the MJ tracks in Sonic 3 being replaced does suck, but it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of the game and plus, when I played the game I put the volume up on my phone and down on my tv so I wouldn’t have to hear the Sonic Origins replacements.
7:35 It's a recurring thing for SEGA to be like, "we might be doing Saturn and/or Dreamcast games" then said collection to be discontinued after that. The only time they actually went through was the PS3/360 era. 17:53 There was a recent update that FINALLY addresses that. It is now optional. 21:28 I dunno why, but out of all the Classic Sonic games, Sonic 2 is the only one I can get down on replaying without issues. I enjoyed playing the GBA version of Sonic 1 (it was my first FULL experience with the game, my actual first was the Java ones on an old Nokia phone that somehow has an invisible barrier that prevents you from destroying the animal capsule at the last Green Hill act, depending on your phone) but I find it meh when I played the mobile version years later. I couldn't even finish Sonic 3 because I keep losing interest half-way, no matter how many times I've tried. The "Classic" Sonic game that comes close to Sonic 2 in terms of what I ended up replaying was, unironically, both the Sonic 4 games.
Why you can't get into Sonic 3, I'll never know. Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my favorite. That said though, I was just thinking of how I tried so hard to like the Spyro games after the original trilogy (Heros Tail, Legend of Spyro) and I just couldn't like them.
For me it's the opposite. Sonic 2 is the classic Sonic game I've played the least, probably due to it's last levels which suck. S3&K was the first Sonic game to be truly great imo.
The best thing about the Sega Genesis Classic Collection in my opinion is that the Steam version puts all the ROMs in a folder for you to do whatever you'd like with them. It means you can just use whatever superior fan emulator you want. Unfortunately, that's completely lost on Switch. I wish more companies did that honestly.
It also officially supports ROM hacks via Steam Workshop, which is amazing! Granted, 90% of the "patches" on there are just random pirated Sega Genesis games, which is why more companies probably don't do this

The genesis online for Nintendo Switch has the best library available on it out of all of them. The only one that offers playable Megaman, Contra, Street Fighter, and until recently with Castlevania Legends, Bloodlines was the only one offered to you. The number of amazing titles don't stop there either. Streets of Rage 2, Shinobi 3, Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force 2, Pulseman and Crusader of Centy??? Yeah. It's actually viable to want to purchase Switch Online just for a legit way to play these titles.
I played Sonic 1 and 2 on the predecessor to the switch which was an Android thing and so I got to play the Christian Whitehead without my fingers blocking the screen. It was called the Nvidia Shield and it's running a older version of the processor in the Switch.
it's funny that Super Mario Bros. 2 also has a lot of versions, there's the Switch Online version which is just the original, then there's the SNES All-Stars version, and the GBA Mario Advance version
The Sega Ages version also has save states which makes it wonderful for Speed Running. If I mess up a button timing, I can jump back to the beginning of that level immediately instead of having to hit reset or just not be able to easily or quickly do it. Origins is wonderful to play, and it's been awesome to be able to play in HD on a modern console, but they changed the AI of Tails which also messes up some speed running strats for Chemical Plant, so if you're into speed running, the Ages version is the definitive one.
I'm a Sonic 2 speedrunner, and I HIGHLY recommend the Sega Ages version to newcomer players. It has a separate leaderboard and a few unique New Game Plus categories not found in other versions of Sonic 2.
Actually, the Knuckles in Sonic 2 title screen is still in Origins; as is the Tails and Knuckles and Sonic & Tails title screens for Sonic 1; granted you have to return to the game title screen to see them, but they ARE there.
I bought Sega Classic Collection on a discount for $10 last week and I noticed the input lag immediately, how did you not notice it? Also Sonic 2 SEGA AGES version is the definitive version imo, I don’t mind Sonic Origins though and honestly you’re missing out if you don’t know how to use cheats in Sonic Origins because you get SO MANY OPTIONS and yes Knuckles in Sonic 2 intro is there as well.
The only port of Sonic 2 that was ever worth getting...EVER...is the 3DS one. Sonic 2 in 3D is really cool but the kicker is you unlock Super sonic by beating the game...to use at any time. No God awful special stages needed. Seriously, it's the only one worth checking out
always, when someone mentions Sega Ages, I remind myself, that back in the 90's in Poland there was a company called Ages, and they actually were trying to resell Sega products, and what's even more interesting is that they're actually a rebranded company (that was named Bobmark), that has been selling here a clone of japanese Famicon, before we had a proper copyright law. When in 1994 polish goverment introduced a proper copyright law, they rebranded, tried selling Sega consoles, failed and rebranded into a soft drink company.
This is probably a weird thing to comment on but as someone who does video editing I am impressed with the image quality Scott gets from pointing a camera at a Switch screen.
I like fast forward for Mario 1. If you like speeding through level’s quickly it become pretty apparent how shot the levels are and long the transitions between them are
i really like the sega ages version of sonic 2. it isnt widescreen, but it reminds me so much of sonic 2 3d on the 3ds, which was a fantastic port. also sonic origins feels so incredibly slightly different then the original sonic 2, and while it isnt a big deal and i still play that port, sega ages sonic 2 gets it *just right*
it's nice that they eventually fixed the issue that was mentioned with the pixel filter in Origins. should have been like that at launch, but hey, at least you can make the games look super crisp now
There was a final update to the other consoles to turn off the 3d to minimize the button delay on the Sega Genesis collection during gameplay, but the company never bothered to add that update to the switch version. So going full speed in Sonic 2 the lag is enough to miss jumps and fall off ledges. I would only play just to study those games but i can't enjoy them unless it's an rpg.
honestly i think the input lag in sega genesis classics is a complete deal-breaker, and i'm really glad that sega genesis for switch online exists as a result
I remember one of the creators of sonic wanted to rerelease sonic on newer hardware all the time to give newer generations of gamers to experience the games. And Sega really ment it because there is so many ways to play the older sonic games (with the exception of chaotix) on both newer and older hardware.
Bought Sonic 2 on mobile like 10 years ago on my iPod and that has been the best version imo. It also had online play where you could race people which I don’t think Sonic origins has
I had an Xperia Mini Pro and the Sonic game were compatible with the sliding keyboard, it was awesome, it was the only game I really liked on mobile, because it did not feel like a mobile game and with the phone's keyboard it felt like playing on a console.
One question that always runs through my minds as I watch these vids, do you actually record these on your carpet? Or is like a piece of carpet glued to a desk
❗️My Timestamps: 21:23 The game I always "come back to" is 'Super Mario Bros. 1'. I have bought it nearly everytime it's been released. I had it on the NES, SNES (as part of SM Allstars), GBC, GBA, Wii VC, 3DS VC and the Game&Watch.
The only legal way i got that game is a few days ago with switch online. Before that, it was a polystation(bootleg nes console with ps1 skin), emulation on pc, emulation on phone, hacked 3ds... Now i have a legal way with a switch lite.
I feel Sonic 2 rereleases on the switch are redundant when you get it part of a collection! There’s no need to sell the game separately, especially you get more value bundling it with other classic Genesis games!
The interesting thing about the modern day Sega Ages was that, I swear that they were going to add more systems to the Ages collections, like Saturn games and Dreamcast games. But the only ones I’ve seen were Crazy Taxy and that one mobile version of Jet Set Radio.
