I checkout the Sony 12-24mm f4 G Ultrawide lens for Sony full-frame mirrorless. Link: geni.us/euC2yWt
I think this lens is going to be the ultimate vlog/vlogging lens for RU-vid content creators that want use Sony Mirrorless. I was really surprised by how light this lens was and how well it paired not only with a full-frame Sony alpha a9, but also the Sony a6000. The Sony 12-24 FE F4 is a lens you should definitely consider over the Sony 16-35mm if you always find yourself needing to go a little bit wider than usual.

About Video:
Host, that1cameraguy does an unboxing and first look of the Sony 12-24mm FE F4 G Series Lens. It's the first full-frame ultra wide lens for Sony full-frame like the Sony alpha a9, a7Rii, etc. This lens is a parallel to the highly regarded Sony 10-18 for APS-C, which pairs well with cameras like the Sony a6000.

Is the 12-24 a lot better than the 10-18 Sony? I have a6500 and A7R? And need a wide angle lens! Is double the price worth it for the 12-24!? Thanks

I'd love to see you do a comparison between the a9 and the a7rii. I just picked up an a7rii. The a9 is my dream camera, but I'll never need to shoot at 20fps and I figured the extra $1700 would be better invested in glass.

Where is the test with the Crane? :-) Will it work good with the Crane Plus on a a7iii?

One disadvantage is I will need a special filter mount for this. For wide angle landscapes, I almost always use an ND, Grad or CP filter.

What is that red and black thing hanging from the side of the camera? I'm seeing that a lot.

It's to attach a peak design strap. Peak design straps are awesome. They're very easy to adjust for around the neck or sling and they are comfortable and easy to put on and take off of the camera.

Hey Man love you videos, Question for you.....I have a nikon d7100, right now and wanting to move to mirrorless. I am looking to do portraits, landscape astrophotography,low light photos of family, and videos for reviews and such for youtube. Should I get the a6500 or a7rII? Thank you

The A7RII is a fantastic camera if you want great image quality, but I often use the A6500 for video because it has great autofocus and I'm a manual video shooter. So how good are you with focus pulling in video? The A7RII is still pretty good, but the A6500 is great. I love both for what they do, but take the A6500 if I want to just have a camera and not worry about settings and focus too much. The main thing though: You can get some nice small cheap APS-C lenses for the A6500 but you can't get fast 2.8 zooms for APS-C and the big 2.8 zooms are a bit overkill on the A6500. I usually shoot with with a fast prime on the A6500.

Mark, Thank you for the reply. As far as focus peeking and such I am new to the whole video thing so I am going to say starting out I will be 75% picture and 25% video. My goal is to move to 50% video and 50% pictures or 60 video 40 photo. Would the 6500 still give me nice rich landscape and portrait pictures and get good video to? or am I better off with the A7RII? only nice thing is the A6500 is 1/2 the price so can get some good glass lol but i am not concerned either way. Thanks again for the reply

Well focus peaking is one thing, the image magnification / focus zoom is another but with the A6500 I usually just use the auto focus even on pro jobs. The images from the A6500 are pretty good! But you really should look at flickr or any other large photo site and check if they are what you are looking for. If you are good with Capture one (Basic version is free for sony users, Pro version is cheap as well) you can get very similar images from both cameras. The A6500 is great if you like action, the A7RII is fantastic if you love cropping, great colours and super high resolution. I have often used it with adapted long lenses to shoot watersport. In the end, depending on your budget and geo-location, you might just want to hire them both and see which one you actually like holding. The A6500 has a decent kit lens or you can go for the cheap and reasonable quality 18-110, both are F4 so a bit slow. With the A7RII It's another story: all zooms are pretty expensive if you want fast zooms or still a bit on the pricey side if you go for the F4 ones. The 70-200 F4 is a good option, the 24-70 F4 not so much. The 55 F1.8 works great on both systems, so does the 35 F2 (I think it's F2) Like you said: the A6500 leaves some room to buy decent lenses, in the end great lenses will make the biggest difference on both, the only thing is: fullframe lenses can be used on both, APS-C, well they work on both as well the A7RII has a 18mp APS-C mode, but it would be a waste of camera. If you like portraits the A6500 with the 55 F1.8 makes for a pretty good low light portrait setup, right now the only issue with the A6500 is not enough fast zooms and putting a $2300 F2.8 24-70 on the A6500 is just not a good idea hehe. I have a little 32mm Zeiss for the A6500 and that is basically my pocket camera for everyting that's not too serious but gives great results. (focus on that thing is SLOwwWWw by the way so better look at the sony one, perhaps the cheap 28mm?) Good luck and try before you buy is my advice, you might not like the grip on the camera.

Mark, You are so awesome for explaining things. Thank you so much for all the information you have given me. I will go to a local shop and hold both and see. I am thinking I might start with the 6500 and then after a little while buy a FF body as well to have the best of both worlds like you. Thanks again for the replys

I'm selling my a6500 w/16-70 F4 going back to the a7ii with the 24-70 F4 and 70-300 G. I'm going to add the 12-24 G to my lens line-up. Now I just wish Sony had a 24-70 G F4 series then I'd be all "G"....... I don't need the 2.8 lenses nor can I afford them......

The 12-24mm is ultrawide? Recommend you try the Voigtlander 10mm 5.6. Thats ultrawide, cheaper and better than this Sony lens.

Why does this G lens cost so much? A Nikon 12-24 is $500 cheaper! Sony is dropping the ball on these prices.
@mavfan1
@mavfan1 7 лет назад
Same could be asked about why Nikon's new 70-200 is so expensive. Nikon is really dropping the ball on that price. Which model Nikon are you talking about in particular? Not the crop frame 12-24 F4 DX?
@OutlawFarmersRC
@OutlawFarmersRC 7 лет назад
Mavfan1 You are right I was comparing the DX lens, but that is because I have a A6500. I should have stated that clearer. With that said this is the only choice I get with the Sony system right? In this focal range. If there is any other AF close to this range that is native Sony glass let me know. It just seems the G line pricing is all over the place. $1700 for a F4 lens. The Nikon FF glass is $150 more but that at least is a F2.8. Just frustrated with Sony not supporting Native APS-C lenses more. Makes me really think I should of went with a Fuji X-T2.
@OutlawFarmersRC
@OutlawFarmersRC 7 лет назад
Never mind this. I am a dumb ass today lol forgot about the 10-18mm. But still $850 for the 12mm (after crop factor) difference than the 18-105mm G line lens for $600.
@jepark7751
@jepark7751 7 лет назад
10-18 on an APS-C gives a 15mm equivalent. The difference between 12mm and 15mm is pretty big on FF.
@jepark7751
@jepark7751 7 лет назад
Also the Canon 11-24 f/4 is huge and costs $2,999. The Sigma 12-24 f/4 costs $1,599 and is a beast of a lens as well weighing in at 1.15 kg while the Sony 12-24 is only 565 or 1/2 the weight.
